Britney Spears’ “Break The Ice” Video To Premiere Today, Fandemonium Ensues

3/12/08, 4:40 pm EST

Britney Spears is set to premiere her new anime-infused video for “Break The Ice” at 6:30pm EST over at BlackoutBall.com. The third single from Spears’ Blackout, the video is reportedly pretty much a remake of Brit’s own Mission: Impossible-inspired “Toxic” video, except animated. To view the video, fans must enter two easy-to-find passwords (”Danger” and “Victory” for the clueless) to move on to the video page, which currently hosts a chat room where you can engage in conversations like “Griggle|Br: Britney gonna show us what she can do” and “Momeishkus: i’ve got to study probability and statistics! tomorrow is my exam.” You don’t want to miss it!

That was the stupidest video i have ever seen. The song was good. But i think it would have been better. If it was actually her dancing to her music, instead of animation.

one word DISSAPOINTMENT! it was the most dumbest stupid video i have ever seen…seriously i lost all hope for her..the best song of the album is not ruined!….too bad people still have hope for her….i lost it ALL when i saw this video…what happend to you brit?

Gorkem | 3/13/2008, 4:49 pm EST

I think it’s not bad, it’s an interesting idea to have an animated video, Madonna also had an animated video in the past, i cannot understand why people love to diss Britney but she is the queen of pop and Break The Ice is the best pop track i have ever listened, it will rock the charts. Although she has some personal problems, her career is stil going so strong, and it shows how talented Britney is.

mary | 3/13/2008, 5:27 pm EST

that is one stupid video! IM so disappointed with her, she is such a beautiful girl that can dance, i wanna see brit in the video not animated.. love song but hate the video.. BRIT COME ON, WE KNOW YOU HAVE IT IN YOU!!

EV | 3/13/2008, 6:55 pm EST

I’m not a fan of Britney Spears, but this was an awesome anime video. It reminded me of Ghost in the Shell, Animatrix, and Aeon Flux. The song was good, too (for pop music). I think most of the negative comments come from people who don’t understand anime…

AC | 3/13/2008, 6:57 pm EST

I thought it was a creative video! Goes well with the song =)

Anonymous | 3/13/2008, 7:57 pm EST

yes i agree this is the worst vidoe ever. the record company should have done a real video.
good song bad video. i still have faith for her.

lynn | 3/14/2008, 12:10 pm EST

Derrick Lucous | 3/14/2008, 12:18 pm EST

luv Britney Spears and this song, but this vid stinks!…i heard it’s just her promotional vid though

its jello bitch | 3/14/2008, 4:46 pm EST

i loves it brit brit you did it once more. i love every thing you do don’t listen to all the haters. your the queen of pop and there not

Copycat | 3/15/2008, 4:31 am EST

It has probably been said already but I’ll say it again. The Break the Ice animation is a shameless rip of the Ghost in the Shell manga . The two are so much alike in terms of style and subplots that I smell a lawsuit is coming.

ghost | 3/15/2008, 5:53 am EST

this is my favourite song from her new album but come on brit.. it’s obvious – people hate this video.. WE WANT THE REAL THING!

mimi | 3/15/2008, 12:38 pm EST

I don’ think that most people would like this video because it’s not as glitzy as her other videos are. But for me this represents the abuse she received from the media, and that all her fans can expect more from her in the future!

Anonymous | 3/15/2008, 9:23 pm EST

i like the video!so is the best they could do now,ok!!!
the video is nice! and the song is really cool!
i like anime!so i love the video!!

Anne | 3/16/2008, 4:39 pm EST

I LOVED the video. It clearly closes the transition from bubble gum pop to becoming an alternative & darker pop star. Britney is NOT for young girls anymore, and neither is this video. The Aeon Flux/Ghost in a Shell like violence seems to reflect Britney’s anger and rebellion that she has in real life. She kills men at the end, it’s almost refreshing to see Britney portrayed as angry because she should be. Britney and her camp have balls, for doing something this different. kudos to that!

adam | 3/17/2008, 7:08 pm EST

losing faith over a music video? do you people hear yourself! if anything you should be keeping faith in her for many reasons1 1.she has come to grips with her life and understands that all her family and everyone close to her are just trying to help her. 2.she has started getting visitations with her sons 3. shes in better shape, looking healthy and eating her 3 balanced meals a day 4.her bizzare behaviour has stopped 5. all the bad influences in her life are gone to be left with those who are for her 6.shes ended her drinking and partying ways these are the things that all you fans like myself should be happy about. not over a music video! i mean please… so she tried something different because she is currently making an appearance on a tv show. who hasn’t tried something different eg. maddonna, linking park, gnarls barkley. one reason to why britney has achieved so much success was by suprising her audiance. sge does what she does for her fans, remember that.

Lady Paranoia | 3/19/2008, 7:05 pm EST

Although I will say I am not much of a Britney Spears fan (I like a few of her new songs), this video was EXCELLENT.

It was rather reminiscent of Ghost In the Shell and other similar animes. The animation was stunning (does anyone know who did it?).

When I heard about the video, I thought, “Oh no, is Britney going to ruin anime for the rest of us otaku in the world?” but I was happy to say I was surprised by the quality of the video. I get a little sick of her live-action videos, but that’s just me.

The song was okay, but it worked with the video quite well.

Wonderful video. Good job, Britney. I never thought I’d find myself saying that.

To those who thought this video was the “most stupidest” or “most dumbest stupid” video they have ever seen, it’s obvious your close-minded brains are insufficient to judge what is good or bad.

This video was a huge step away from Britney’s norm and it was a fabulous decision. It was dark, catchy, and cool. I liked it.

Congrats and hang in there Brit.

Andres Velez (Ecuador) | 3/23/2008, 5:20 pm EST

At the end of the video it says “to be continued”…
I hope she continues it in live action dressing like in this video! Just needs little exercise but shes hot..
Otherwise, I loved this video so if the anime continues I’d be excited anyway…

Britney I LOVE YOU!!!!

Tannis | 3/26/2008, 9:51 pm EST

This video is supost to be her own idea, akin to toxic, yer right! This video is a Ghost in the Shell rip off from start to finish, the song even sounds like the start music to the tv series, except its not as good. And if you dont beleive me heres a list of exactly how it rips off GitS.

Ghost in the Shell, starts with the heronie jumping off a huge building to smash through glass and take out her target.

Throughout all of Ghost in the shell are images of clones/cyborgs within floatation tanks, the image of britneys face getting so close to the glass, liquid surface is a direct rip off.

The interface on the tank woman’s head is the same shape as the vr file interfaces used in Ghost

And the building exploding like that, can you say fiirst climax in Stand Alone Complex.

As an animated character she bears a very close resemblance to a robotic body used by a major character called the Puppet Master in Ghost.

The video also rips of iconic image composistions from Sailor Moon and Aeon Flux, as well as many many more maga series. The bit with the moon behind her head, Sailor Moon or Elven Lied anyone?

Oh by the way in cyberpunk ICE stands for Intrusion Countermeasure Electronics (kinda ultra hard firewalls) Ice Breaking is akin to hacking in cyberpunk fiction wich feature plots that usually revolve around human relationships and loves a factor most of the main stream just dont get. The only way she came up with this idea is if she’d just watched Ghost in the Shell, more likely one of her PR people fanboys heard this track and made the link cause muscially the song could fit in to a Ghost episode.

Ximble | 3/26/2008, 10:08 pm EST

Oh come on why don’t you just shut up already, this video is not bad at all. At least I like it alot more than some slutty Marilyn Monroe wannabe alike video from Christina Aguilera…

nimeso | 3/29/2008, 5:36 am EST

Agreed, rip off of good anim… GOOD ON HER! I’m a designer and I’ll tell ya now … everything has been done before but it takes guts for someone like spears do do this anim. She and her PR people would have know that all her 12 year old fans wouldn’t get it. Time to grow up. she likes anim, good on her, betta than all the other fake women sexed up dancing… why hassle her for ripping Ghost, matrix etc etc when I can’t keep track of all the shit videos of sexy singers wearing nothing and prancing around. betta to rip something good than something bad. I hated Spears untill I heard her new album, I was forced to swollow all my pride and am proud to say she’s done a great job! Go brit! hang in there and show all these suckers you can kick arse again. good on you!

Outsider | 3/29/2008, 1:48 pm EST

Isn’t there a person out there completely bored of some iconic pretty-lady shaking her money maker in a to some cheesy music!? Watch porn instead (it’s also nice..)

Anyway. This vid was an extreme breakthrough! Probably from the side of the PR crew:) Combining the mega-hip Timbalandish beats with some Aeon Flux/GitS anim. WOW!

Finally some ART art in the pop world. I am quite astonished to get all this from Britney.

Way to go!

arminas | 3/30/2008, 2:02 pm EST

great video, cool song.
unexpected.
i don’t think there is any harm on GitS or others; I agree about the copy-inspiration but.

most of the people are just bombarded by junk information all and every day. Altought Britney doesn’t have a narrow fan type, many of them are pretty ignorant. So these youngsters now have the clue of things like GitS, I.G, cyberpunk, anime etc. thanks to her. :)

JJ | 4/7/2008, 2:40 am EST

I can see why they did it. They want something new. However, I am not that sure that it was a good move from her managers. There are many people who like anime but statistically most of general public will just say *whatever*

SYASYA | 4/7/2008, 10:16 am EST

I THINK THIS VIDEO VERY DIFFRENT OTHER HAVE OTHERS,COZ BREAK THE ICE THIS VIDEO AWASESOME,GOOD IDEA FROM HER.IT’S NOT BORING 4 LOOK HER HAVE A VIDEOS,BUT THIS VIDEO LIKE A PART “TOXIC”.IT’S OK,THATS HOT B.SUCCES FULL YA,WITH ANIMATION BREAK THE ICE VIDEO.BUT WHERE BLACK HAIR COLOR HER NEW STYLLE ON GIMMIE MORE,WHERE IS HER NEW HAIR COLOR,IF CAN BE LOOK LIKE MISS UMBRELLA “RIHAANA” HER CUT VERY THATS HOT,CAN BE TREND ON WORLD MUSIC MODEL.1S AGAIN SUCCES 4 BREAK THE ICE.WHEN FREAK SHOW SINGLE MAKE TO MAKING THE VIDEO TOO,COZ THIS HAVE SEXY RYTHM,HER B VOICE LOOK SEXY FULL.

alias 1 | 4/10/2008, 2:58 pm EST

here here nimeso and i doubt her doing this damaged any animation. im not a huge britney fan (understatement) but her new work is realy good and yea it may have copyed some stuff from GitS it shows some tallent and good marketing that even without haveing to dance around almost naked shes still got people interested in her work and discussing it. truely i doubt anyone can say here or there what her plan was with useing Anime but in some ways being a big anime fan myself in some ways its a compliment that an artist has taken ideas from works within the anime world
all in all good on her and yea she could have danced around in her underwear but if she can get the sales without the need to shes doing damn well concidering thats how most other artists are pulling in sales!

brittany | 5/6/2008, 4:40 pm EST

I’ve been an animation major for three years in college now, and pretty much a britney fan for forever. True, her career’s been a little shaky as of late, but whatever, at least she’s still working. All i have to say about the video is that even though it is an anime style, some of the animation looks cheap. There is one scene where she enters a doorway and her hair is supposed to be blowing, but it looks stiff (much more so than regular anime hair style). And while I understand the stylization, it’s just poorly done. When you’re showing this to an american audience (probably more familiar to disney style), there could’ve been more done to make the animation look a bit more natural and more accepted by the viewers. In my opinion, they could’ve done a better job with the video as a work of art.
