Van Halen Reunion Tour Postponed For a Month

3/10/08, 5:13 pm EST

After postponing a week’s worth of concerts last week, Van Halen has decided it needs to hold off their reunion tour for the next month while Eddie Van Halen receives “medical tests” for an unspecified problem. The tour has now been put on hold until April 19th, leaving seventeen postponed dates — including a show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden — in limbo. No rescheduled dates have been announced, but fans are being asked to hold onto their tickets for use on a later date. According to organizers, Eddie Van Halen “is currently under doctors’ care” and will “continue medical tests to define a course of treatment.” The tour is, as of now, expected to resume with an April 19th show in Las Vegas.

You Rock Radio | 3/11/2008, 3:11 am EST

I can tell that some of you are very young, so I understand the sarcasm from people with not much life experience to draw upon.

As we get older the fast lane style of living takes a toll on all of us, no one is excluded. Being in the radio business and being a musician myself I consider myself fortunate that I got sober and healthy and have been that way 13 years now. As much sex as I was into back then I am also grateful my damn dick didn’t fall off or something! I am sure Eddie and Dave have seen a lot more quantity of poontang and dope than I could ever afford, so the fact that they are still alive is somewhat of a miracle to begin with.

Ollippi | 3/11/2008, 5:39 am EST

Cancellations sucks. Van Halen used to a band that never cancel any dates… Waiting for the new record. It will be better than Kid Rock`s any album…

Captain Duck | 3/11/2008, 7:05 am EST

man back on the drink again… ‘medical testing’ = weening off the bottle

who ever said ed was drinking again?

It could be somthing with his hip again, it could be the cancer, but I am certain that he is not drinking again.

older van halen fan | 3/11/2008, 10:44 am EST

you guys should be ashamed of yourselves for jumping to conclusions! nobody here remembers the guitar god battling throat cancer awhile back?!

Jungleland | 3/11/2008, 11:44 am EST

I am so glad I went to the 1st Atlanta show and not the 2nd, which has been rescheduled 3 times now.

Strange that exactly one year after the Sammy + Mike version of Van Halen had to sub for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, these guys are back in the spotlight again for not playing shows.

After waiting for over 20 years, I guess a few more months won’t kill anybody

John | 3/11/2008, 12:03 pm EST

Eddie Van Halen will always be an alcoholic. His father was and died from it and now Eddie is heading down the same path. I hope his son is learning something from watching what it is doing to his father and his life. I pray that Ed can one day put the bottle and the crystal meth down and begin a sober lifestyle. But I fear that we may never see that and that Eddie Van Halen will become a statistic instead of a living legend.

FAN-tastic | 3/11/2008, 12:24 pm EST

saw them in CT Mohegan Sun end of 2007 they were fantasic. I grew up in the 70s, no one is better than Eddie. Just pray he over comes yet another obstacle. Love you Ed-monster.

Smithzoneon | 3/11/2008, 12:31 pm EST

Try to have just a little bit of compassion people. What if this time it’s something really bad, like a terminal illness ? Put yourself in his shoes. We are all human beings, so try treating Eddie like one.
The only thing that gripes me is their public mediator not telling us the real story. We all would just like the truth.

Franchise | 3/11/2008, 12:53 pm EST

everyone is assuming he’s drinking, and the band’s statements may just be smoke, but they may not be. but then again, if he was really sick, wouldn’t the shows just be cancelled?

John | 3/11/2008, 1:07 pm EST

I am treating Eddie like a human being. It is you who fails to see the truth beacuse of the stars in your eyes.

moto | 3/11/2008, 1:19 pm EST

Ed, get well and press on, life is great!

Miranda | 3/11/2008, 1:53 pm EST

Cut the guy a break. It could be the cancer is out of remission.

guy | 3/11/2008, 3:02 pm EST

More than a 2 day notice would be appreciated next time….. should have just postponed at the beginning of the month with the other dates

NYCIceCreamMan | 3/11/2008, 4:36 pm EST

This is hwhy I went to see them in 10/07. Didn’t think they’d make it to 11/07.

Gene | 3/11/2008, 5:43 pm EST

On Richard Simmon’s Sweating to the Oldies Tour in 1986 I saw him do a 3 1/2 hour raucous set, all the while he was constantly being administered olive oil enemas on stage so the he could continue performing. For the encore he slathered his body in lamp oil and was lit ablaze. However this did not stop him from sweating to the oldies. Eddie and the rest should learn from this.

The_enabler | 3/11/2008, 5:57 pm EST

Saw them at Mohegan Sun and came away feeling like a teenager again. We really enjoyed them — they were great. We bought tickets for the March 26th show which is now postponed. Sure it’s a hugh letdown but I thought from the beginning that their shows were too close together – too aggressive for anyone playing a full two hour show and then packing up and immediately traveling to the next show. I’m grateful that I saw them last year and hope for Eddie’s (and especially Wolfie’s) sake that it’s not too serious.

Kurt's Corpse | 3/11/2008, 7:04 pm EST

Shouldn’t have fired Michael Anthony. Ain’t karma a bitch??

Jim | 3/11/2008, 11:52 pm EST

I’m glad I caught them in October; I was supposed to see them in A.C. but to wait a month for 10-20 more years of music is a small price to pay – GET WELL EDDIE !!!

Jim | 3/11/2008, 11:52 pm EST

Hammy Sagar | 3/12/2008, 8:48 am EST

BTW….I love how they refuse to play any Van Hagar material…acting as if the years 1985 – 1996 never even existed.

Valerie V | 3/12/2008, 12:15 pm EST

Our prayers for you Eddie – hope its only that bad flu going around…..

Mikeybaby | 3/12/2008, 5:29 pm EST

Alcoholism is a very tough adversary. You never stop wanting to drink, and always think you can handle it better this time. And you’re always wrong. I can’t imagine the tempations somebody in his position has to deal with every day.

Klen | 3/12/2008, 9:05 pm EST

I love the way so many commoners(like me) have these awesome crystal balls ! Eddie Van Halen is arguably one of the greatest guitarists of all time and certainly of my generation. Above and beyond that he is a person with a family and feelings that we all have. Certainly the truth of his affliction is owed to the fans that made Van Halen what they are but the fact remains that to jump to conclusions in this forum or any other is irresponsible and another example of weak minds that hide behind a keyboard. Respond to this should you like but I have no time for idiots and hopefully Mr Van Halen doesn’t either. Get well Eddie, we grew up together !

Lebowski | 3/13/2008, 10:47 am EST

Everyone here needs to cool off. I believe Valerie Bertinelli when she says that Eddie has NOT been drinking again. He’s not a young man any more and he has had health problems before so why is it so surprising that he’s having some kind of medical issue? They’ll probably be back on the road soon enough.

John | 3/13/2008, 12:16 pm EST

Mikeybaby hit it right on the head. I’ve been around enterainers all my life and what you get in the press isn’t what you get in real life. They have so many temptations thrown at them all the time. And someone who was backstage at one of the last shows claims that Eddie was drinking Smoking Loon. I hope he can battle his demons and get his band back on stage, includinfg his very talented son.

IloveEVH !!! | 3/14/2008, 11:14 pm EST

Listen, everybody should Grow a Heart. Eddie is a person first, he is a father. If you care about him, pray that all will be well with him. He is an amazing rock god, but he is a person first !!! I was going to the show on march but it was postponed. I am looking forward to seeing the make up show. Eddie will be better :) I know Eddie Van Halen is a fighter !!!

JJ | 3/16/2008, 2:15 am EST

‘Go Sammy, Eddie can’t stay sober, MA&SH get last laugh’. Get a fricken life you ungrateful MORONS! Quite wasting space with pure idiotic statements. Thanks again w/help bending the grade scale! (thats from all of us w/a brain/respect/character, they never taught you guys that on the short bus). EVH scale of talent doesnt & cannot be registered on this planet, argue all you want the best ever!! Cobian & Bob, what did you do w/ your dad at 16? Sniff your moms underware together! Maybe, ah… showed you the birds & the bees!! with your sister in the starring role. 13 is an unlucky number isnt it? (face is red isnt it). Disrespectfuls, do me a favor, watch the guitar solo on ‘Live w/o a Net’! Get well Eddie reunion tour has made turning 40 little easier. Got 4 shows down 2 to go, Front Row in Cincy!! Sammy has great parties, but Diamond Dave is the PARTY! VH best ever, ‘I needed a girl but I was just to lazy’! Van Halen groupies dont want your negative, worthless comments. We’re enjoying the ride, waste your time w/ britney or some curb feeling raper!!! Louis are you really that stupid. Wolfie, thanks for the pick (2nd row, Auburn Hills, 79 world tour shirt), Alex, Dave, lets keep this party going. Thanks, love you boys, get well Eddie. Lets all have a little fun.

Cobain's Corpse | 3/17/2008, 11:48 am EST

Oh well……too bad the loser can’t stop drinking. Great example you’re setting for your kid. Go Sammy & Mike!

Joey B | 3/18/2008, 11:53 am EST

Eddie Van Halen is a selfish goon. Watch the youtube video of the show in Fl….throwing his guitar on the floor like a 2 year old in front of his son. Nice example your setting you idiot.
