My all-time fave Madonna song is Drowned World/Substitute for love.
I always thought that “Vogue” was Madonna’s most popular song. =)

JJ | 11/21/2008, 11:39 am EST

And what about Frozen??
That’s such a great song with a great video, too.

Dave | 3/20/2008, 8:34 am EST

I’m not sure she had a good song. The closest she got was Vogue.

JO | 3/19/2008, 10:32 am EST

LUCKY STAR! LUCKY STAR! LUCKY STAR! MADONNA IS NOT DISCO!!! SHE IS THE QUENN…LOVE HER!

Danny Aiello | 3/16/2008, 2:37 pm EST

No Lucky Star? La Isla Bonita was tripe.

American Eagle | 3/16/2008, 12:47 pm EST

There is too much I have to say on the issue at hand for me to make it brief enough to be readable or appropriate for the board. That said, I would like to extend a thank you to Michael for commenting on that brilliant and underrated track from Music. For what it’s worth, imo her top 25 include Die Another Day, Bad Girl, Mer Girl, Everybody, Isaac, Secret Garden, and To Have and Not to Hold, but that’s just me … I also think 25 is quite a task for such a lengthy and full track record.

Sherry | 3/16/2008, 7:36 am EST

Ray of Light is my favorite - glad it made number 2.
Love her, but why, oh why did she look like a middle aged matron at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Induction? Her Ray of Light look would have been cooler.

Michael, Plymouth MI | 3/14/2008, 5:48 pm EST

Yes the girl is from Michigan and she represents like the beauty she is and the beautiful state that Michigan is. My favorite all time eventhough it most likely would have not made the list is “Amazing” from the “Music” record.

DT | 3/14/2008, 12:38 pm EST

She may not be rock and roll in the way we usually think of it when we initially hear that word, but she carries that attitude into what she does. She proved that when she asked Iggy to play her music at the cerimony. How many other dance music artists, especially ones with training in dance, choreagraphy in their live shows, large gay following, can say they “learned to play drums to elvis costello records”, or even claim to know Iggy Pop had an actual band before he was simply iggy Pop? Rock and Roll is a mixed breed, hybrid music, its more attitude than style, a way of life even, and Madonna in her own (often pretentious) way lives it. Now if she would do what I have wanted her to do for years now and do a guitar rock record, I will actually like her instead of merely appreciating her

Jason | 3/13/2008, 11:36 pm EST

Open Your Heart should have definitely made the list along with Burning Up over I’ll Remember and Deeper and Deeper. This list is proof that Madonna is the Queen of Pop, there will never be another female artist that delivers consistently excellent work. She might not have the greatest voice but I can’t think of a more influential female artist or a better performer, she’s a true icon.

britney | 3/13/2008, 1:56 pm EST

Luckstar?

Bitter Gay Mark | 3/12/2008, 9:13 pm EST

What’s fascinating about this list — and yes, a few of my favorites are curiously absent. . . Material Girl, Nothing Fails, Burning Up, Erotica — is how all encompassing is it of her career. The songs span the decades and ALMOST every album is represented. . . the one exception being American Life, which is expected but unfortunate as I think it had some really great stuff on there that nobody got at all.

Brock_vond | 3/12/2008, 7:52 pm EST

living proof that a person with marginal talent, good management, and a keen sense of underground gay culture can make it in a cutthroat business world ….

i don’t mean that in a negative way either, i think she is a true archetype in music, and she will be timeless …

god bless america … she is the true American Gangster.

The Rob | 3/12/2008, 7:42 pm EST

See, and the great thing about this list is that it shows how consistently excellent Madonna’s work is. Some of her stuff isn’t as classic as the rest, but it’s always, at worst, really good.

The Rob | 3/12/2008, 7:38 pm EST

I don’t care what anyone says, there was some GREAT stuff on “American Life”.

“Nothing Fails”?
“Die Another Day”?
“X-Static Process”?

John | 3/12/2008, 3:44 pm EST

Bad Girl is an underrated gem…

biagio | 3/12/2008, 9:24 am EST

my favs are drowned world-substitute for love and paradise not for me. true jewels.

Its cooler to NOT be inducted. She chipped away at her credibility by even showing up.

Alberto | 3/11/2008, 8:39 am EST

“Burning Up” is an ESSENTIAL Madonna song, where the hell is it?? Also, “Open Your Heart” should’ve made the cut. Ain’t no big deal though, Madonna deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Madonna is the QUEEN.

ANONYMOUS | 3/11/2008, 6:26 am EST

WHAT ABOUT GAMBLER

Mikey | 3/10/2008, 11:28 pm EST

I love this list.

josh | 3/10/2008, 10:31 pm EST

i must agree that “open your heart” should have been included. and i was surprised that “deeper and deeper” made the cut. BUT, otherwise, it’s a pretty good list.

KarmaPolice | 3/10/2008, 8:28 pm EST

CONGRATS M! All hail the Queen:)

You | 3/10/2008, 8:24 pm EST

Congrats M! All hail the QUEEN!

thezero | 3/10/2008, 8:22 pm EST

umm, “open your heart”

you seriously screwed up leaving that one off…

Marissa | 3/10/2008, 8:19 pm EST

She’s incorporated elements of Rock into her songs, but that’s never really been her main genre of music. Still, if what she did do with her music was enough, then congrats to her.

Dj | 3/10/2008, 7:33 pm EST

Looking @ that list made me realize yes they may be great songs but most of them sound the same. sorry

Crazy Joe | 3/10/2008, 7:27 pm EST

Oh Father is the most obvious omisson!!

Mike/Houston,TX. | 3/10/2008, 6:40 pm EST

Madonna ain’t Rock ‘N’ Roll. Maybe she came close on her TRUE BLUE Lp, but, she needs to be in the Disco Hall Of fame instead.
