Frozen .. what a song, fit for an epic movie and quite risky lead single.

Justify My Love .. horny in the shape of a beat. Nice.

Secret .. An unusual song for Madonna, and maybe that’s why it still holds up?

Like A Virgin .. It’s just such an irritatingly well written song.

Papa Don’t Preach .. Another well written song.

Till Death Do Us Part .. Well. Just listen to it.

Like A Prayer .. Unkillable 1980’s gold.

And,
Holiday .. You can cover it, remix it, rewrite it and update it; but still it’s core melody rocks the dance floor with a cynic’s smile.

your mom | 3/8/2008, 8:05 am EST

As a gay man, I have unique insight and expertise into this list. It’s about the interesting, not just the biggest sellers and Madonna had some very interesting moments:

1) Borderline – her best SONG – I can’t believe more people haven’t covered it over the years (esp. by Alison Krauss who I think would do a great version)
2) Live to Tell – best vocals – just amazing
3) Vogue – accept and get over it. dance classic forever
4) Ray of Light – most passionate
5) Beautiful Stranger – best hooks – recnt past division!
6) Into the Groove – best hooks k- 80s division!
7) Crazy for You – slow dance jam for the ages
8) Bad Girl – from Erotica which is secretly her best album and a very fine moment of songwriting – and Christopher Walken was in the video!!
9) Cherish – the best antidote to her slut image (see also True Blue)
10) Papa Don’t Preach – Her finest moment of offending the Religious Right and I heard this on the radio the other day and I still felt for the girl character in the song. quite impressive
11) Like a Prayer – choir is money and her most high pofile moment of upsetting the religious right (see number 10 for the first)
12) Like a Virgin (with the stolen bass line)
13) Human Nature
14) The Power of Goodbye
15) Don’t Tell Me – a very interesting moment of music

Kevin/Oklahoma | 3/8/2008, 12:43 pm EST

I forgot Vogue!!!!

Anonymous | 3/8/2008, 12:52 pm EST

To all the haters:
Hard to except, but like it or not, Madonna influenced music (not just pop music) more then Leonard Cohen AND John Mellencammp put TOGETHER, as great as they are, they’re nowhere near her popculture-wise.
A Madonna weekend rock list is well deserved.

what's that smell? | 3/8/2008, 2:36 pm EST

Not a fan of Madonna but I’ve gotta go with Steel Dragon on this one – “Crazy For You” always brings back memories of junior high school dances. This song starts playing while I’m standing next to the punch bowl trying to work up the courage to ask out Shelly, the girl I’ve had a mad crush on since 4th grade, to dance with me; only to have her laugh in my face and call me a dork and her boyfriend to beat me up in the parking lot afterwards. ……sigh. those were the days.

Ray of Light?
Hmm

JF | 3/9/2008, 5:13 pm EST

She just has too many great songs to make even a short list.

Into the Groove is there for sure, perfect dance-pop.
Live To Tell gave her credibility.
Vogue was HUGE, so was Express Yourself.
Justify My Love still sounds as fresh today as it did then, so to mention naughty as hell.
There is some fun stuff that is underrated like Beautiful Stranger, Cherish and Like a Virgin.

Get Together is the killer track from COTDF, her best album.

But her two best tracks are on Music, Gone is a close second, Don’t Tell Me has to be her best.

Nobody Knows Me

Jughead | 3/10/2008, 8:42 am EST

As of this writing, on a Monday morning, only 79 responses have been entered for this Rock List. That is very dismal and goes to show just how unpopular and unappealing this weeekend’s Rock List really was. Also goes to show that not many Madonna fans are readers of R.S. Usually by Monday morning there are over 100 comments posted.

I remember Madonna from way way back when she came out from NYC. My favourite SINGLES of hers are:
1.Frozen
2.Borderline
3.Holiday
4.Beautiful Stranger
5.Ray of Light
6.La Isla Bonita
7.The Power of Goodbye
8.Get Together
9.Die Another Day
10.Hung Up.
Of course there are others I like but we’re talking top ten, right?

Rabbitbunny | 3/20/2009, 2:38 pm EST

I actually did this last spring but everyone knows me as The Rabbit
so here are my Top 10 Madonna prayers.

1. Live to Tell-Her best song ever.
2. You Must Love Me-Brilliant sad Evita ballad.
3. Like a Prayer-Epic Eighties Heartland Rock.
4. Ray of Light-Hardest rocker of Miss Ciccone’s life.
5. Hung Up-Tearful Kabbalah Dance/rock anthem.
6. Open Your Heart-Beautifully sad hard rocker for Rocco.
7. Cherish-Happy valentine Pop/rock tune with a tinge
of Ciccone sadness.
8. Don’t Tell Me-Brilliant
Dance country rock mixture
-enough to give Lucinda and Neko
a run for their money.
9. Take a Bow-Best song in
rock & roll inspired
by Shakespeare.
10. Has to Be-Brilliant and beautiful Ciccone ballad of Transcendence-Lola was that special
“someone out there” for
mother Madonna. These are the songs that got Madonna into the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. After many years as fan and friend
-go for it, Miss Ciccone! Hooray for the loyal Cicconistas
out there. Madonna, you are
a wonderful lady with a beautiful voice and a rock & roll heart.
Here’s to you, my Kabbalah friend.

Scientology does not believe in mental illness and its practices. kaballah may sound to spears like two messages I sent her they go like “however it was.” and” I didnt do any thing to you any what.” thats about it. Unlike maddona and her religon I trust more than them.
