In the Studio: The Vines

3/7/08, 4:38 pm EST

The Vines caught their break with 2002’s platinum Highly Evolved, but singer Craig Nicholls nearly killed their momentum with his freakouts, from trashing dressing rooms to berating fans. Since getting diagnosed in 2005 with Asperger’s syndrome, a mild form of autism, Nicholls has been focusing with his band on their fourth disc, helmed by Evolved producer Rob Schnapf. “Nothing can hold us back now,” says Nicholls. “Unless I die in a plane crash.” The fourteen new cuts include the string-laden “True as the Night” and the heavy-pop tune “Merry Go Round.” Says Nicholls of the Vines’ return, “We’re coming back, and it’s gonna be madness.”

Lets just hope that Craig keeps his shit together and the band dont implode. Can’t wait for the new album and I realise that a lot of what they do is ripped off. What isn’t? Hopefully there’s some more great melodies on this album like TV Pro.

Cant wait for new album, and to the guys slating the people who dont like the vines - let them be everyone is tittle to their opinion. Let the new album do the talking not a bunch of faithful fans. Which we are for sticking wiht them through thick and thin. Good on Craig and the whole band. WOOP

craig | 3/29/2008, 6:11 pm EST

venny | 3/25/2008, 7:59 pm EST

oh shut up you bitter excuse of a person; have you even bothered to see them perform live? exactly. these guys are amazing, and they know how to captivate their audience without the use of skanks and hoes shaking their moneymaker.

stop stealing from me…i already mixed punk with the Beatles.

i can’t think of one single good Aussie band

btw Craig Cobain, your disease is just an excuse for your lack of talent

Matt | 3/17/2008, 12:46 am EST

The Vines are such a talent I would only hope that others give them a chance when the new album comes out. The Vines keep up the good work. The fan here in the states love you and wish you all the best with the new cd and touring.

Infernorhythm | 3/15/2008, 5:52 pm EST

The Vines are the freaking best punk band out there, and they’re the only punk band that can pull off brilliant Beatles covers.

All the albums are great, and this one looks sweet.

oblivion | 3/14/2008, 11:02 am EST

once upon a time, there was a boy child who had this gift…screw it, the vines are tantamount to puddle of mudd

Grunty Vortex | 3/12/2008, 1:16 pm EST

PS. if anyone has psychic powers and finds out what plane is crashing in the near future please inform Craig and buy his ticket of him then send it via express post to mcache.

Bangers-N-Mash | 3/10/2008, 7:28 pm EST

I really really hope this album is a return to Highly Evolved… or even Winning Days

And then the Vines need to be promoted to the max, because I am tired of hearing shitty generic rap music all around me

Blueskies | 3/10/2008, 6:42 pm EST

Vision Valley was a big dissappointment. Hopefully Rob Schnapf will ber able to bring back the magic of Highlky Evolved and Winning Days.

garage_kid | 3/10/2008, 4:56 pm EST

the great indigo | 3/10/2008, 2:31 pm EST

mcache | 3/8/2008, 8:46 pm EST

“Nothing can hold us back now,” says Nicholls. “Unless I die in a plane crash.” - I’ll be pulling for a crash. Can you some how coax Panic at this Disco to get on the same plane with you?

Dan | 3/8/2008, 7:53 am EST

Vision Valley was probably The Vines’ weakest album but I loved Highly Evolved and Winning Days so hopefully the new one will be a return to form.

I agree with you Goldschlong. Aussie rock is delicious! Think about Wolfmother and Jet, too!

Pharaoah GoldSchlong | 3/7/2008, 6:25 pm EST

No way! Even though The Vines may be a little twisted, they definitely make some of the best garage rock around anymore.

Johnny Kickass | 3/7/2008, 4:54 pm EST

Australian rockers, go home!
