
- Despite recently joining forces with iTunes, Facebook is reportedly reaching out to the major record labels about possibly starting its own music download service. MySpace is also in talks with the majors to set up a rival service. In further bad news for iTunes, Warner Music Group has struck a deal with 7digital to allow the digital music service to offer DRM-free files.
- Entertainment Weekly reports that Pavement might possibly reunite in 2009 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of their record label Matador. While Stephen Malkmus, Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg and Mark Ibold tell the magazine a reunion is feasible, nothing is confirmed.
- More “possibly maybe” reunion news: Phish will be given a lifetime achievement award at this year’s Jammy Awards, though there are no plans for the band, which has been on hiatus since 2004, to perform.
- Korn’s Munky will release an album with his side project Fear and the Nervous System on August 8th.
