Kanye West Backstage Rider: Tapioca Pudding, “Guitar Hero III,” Connect Four

3/5/08, 2:32 pm EST

Kanye West loves Connect Four. TMZ managed to get their hands on West’s typo-filled backstage rider for his “Glow in the Dark” tour, and listed among the boring demands for spring (not purified!) water and Rice Krispy treats is West’s favorite Milton Bradley game, as it turns out getting his ass kicked by Beyonce has not diminished his love of the game. The rider makes note that Kanye usually travels with his own Connect Four, but “sometimes its nice to have an extra.” It’s not all fun and board games backstage: West also demands an “entertainment center” complete with XBOX 360 and/or Playstation 3, plus a copy of Guitar Hero III. We also learn that Ye’s pre-performance meal consists of “2 Grilled Chicken prepared with the following accompaniments: Steamed broccoli, Steamed Carrots, Spinach/Collard Greens, Steamed Rice, Side Salad with Ranch Dressing.” The rider stresses that West needs a high-speed internet line (none of that wi-fi nonsense), just in case he feels the urge to blog about all that merchandise no one except Kanye West can afford. Other highlights: the revelation that West enjoys tapioca pudding, Caribbean-style Tabasco sauce and the trifecta of Patron, SKYY Vodka and Hennessey.

“Artists bring their own instruments with them.”

They do? I haven’t carried anything heavy in almost 40 years/

Steve - instruments aren’t part of the rider. A rider is stuff the promoter/venue needs to provide backstage. Artists bring their own instruments with them.

What about instruments?

Oh wait…it’s hip-hop and he doesn’t need any. When I saw him in ‘05 opening for U2, his DJ didn’t even touch his turntables the entire set, just had a Mac laptop with all the tracks on it, ready to be played. He had ‘live’ string players, but they were playing along with what was already on the pre-recorded tracks, since they missed their cues a few times and the string parts magically came out of the speakers anyway. It was kind of embarrassing from a musical performance standpoint, but I guess no one cares about that anymore since people just wanted to shout out something about pre-nup.

Ummmm…..whatever.
