The Black Crowes: “Outside of Music, We Probably Would Never Speak to Each Other”

3/5/08, 4:10 pm EST

In the current issue of Rolling Stone, David Fricke profiles the Black Crowes, whose first album in seven years came out yesterday. Though Warpaint is the band’s best, most focused work in years, the tension between brothers and bandleaders Chris and Rich Robinson still runs high. Guitarist Rich Robinson told Fricke, “Outside of music, we probably would never speak to each other. That’s just the way it is.” For the complete profile, check out the new issue of Rolling Stone. The two most important bands post 1989 to 2001 were the Black Crows and Big Head Todd & the Monsters. As far as pure quality, live and
recorded works. The song Wiser Time @ the Crows, stands up against any tune in the rock era, every song on that album is a 10. BHT&M’s
“Midnight Radio” is a classic in the same vein as “AMORICA” in
that every song is not just good but every song on the record
is F–K-in GREAT.

I just wish the CROW brothers got along as well as the MONSTERS brothers. The problem is when you get older you
can’t beat the crap out of each other and settle things like
when you were kids, when your brother pissed you off you
wrestled around, whopped each other up side the head and
got it out of your system. May be the CROW brothers for the
sake of the band and fans need to have a “Dog Fall’ and get it out of there systems every now and then. Life is way to
short not to go around not speaking to each other, I am
sure the media makes it way worse than it really is .

Who writes for this rag.
It’s just not true. Chris pisses me off sometimes with his crazy hippy ways, but that’s him. When things get tough we just sit down and light a fat spliff and settle down.

And no, Denzel Washington can’t save you this time!

You know why? He’s supporting Obama too!!!

Ha ha ha ha ha (more evil laughter, of course)

We know everything, and everything we say is always right and evertything we do is right. And we control THE INFORMATION!

And with our Manchurian Candidate, Barack, we will completely rule the earth and have complete control over everyone’ every move!!!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha (evil laughter of course)

I thought you were joking about the color coded chart on wikipedia…but it’s true!

I used to do shows in High School with Mr. Crowes Garden (they went to my rival high school in Martietta, GA), so I think I have seen every incarnation of this band (as well as Chris’ solo band)

I think adding Luther was a fantasic addition. Will go get this CD tonight

The Crowes rule. Warpaint is their best album since Amorica. But the live show is where it’s at.

Kate Hudson- funny post.

Liam and Chris already knows how to sing and Noel and Rich already know to play guitar. Why not learn things from a new perspective?

Besides, they were probably just all getting high together, anyway!

Fricke is Tits | 3/5/2008, 11:02 pm EST

The Crowes and Oasis show was incredible. Noel and Chris hung out while Liam and Rich hung out. They should switch!

azwyldcats | 3/5/2008, 8:11 pm EST

Can anyone say Kinks? Funny how this one is coming out on the tail of the Ray Davies article in the latest issue. Whatever, the dynamic of fighting bros. makes for good songs…why can’t Hanson hate one another.

Kate Hudson | 3/5/2008, 5:59 pm EST

This dysfunction has a very familiar ring to it. Outside of sitting in the garden to toke, me and Chris never talked to each other either.

I’m moved on to my new man I’m trying to fix, but I’ve got a good feeling about this one.

Peace.

It is sad that such great musicians have to be feuding brothers. Amazing music though! They are my favorite band!
