News Ticker: Van Halen, Jeff Healey, Wal-Mart and Juvenile

3/3/08, 9:44 am EST

  • Van Halen have canceled a handful of recent dates, and now TMZ claims the band’s entire tour — scheduled to run until April 19th — has been called off due to issues with Eddie Van Halen. TMZ cites sources and recent live footage. The band has yet to comment.
  • Canadian guitarist Jeff Healey died yesterday at age forty-one, two months shy of releasing his first rock album in eight years. Healey picked up the guitar after being blinded at a young age, and became known for playing his instrument flat on his lap. He was diagnosed with cancer last year and underwent several surgeries.
  • Under a recently proposed five-tier price plan, Wal-Mart could further reduce its CD prices to start at $5, with new releases going for $12. The plan would require labels to cover more of the cost. No discussions between the labels and the retailer have taken place.
  • A teenager in Georgia murdered his mother and two sisters on Friday, one of whom was Juvenile’s four-year-old daughter. The rapper’s manager told the AP, “It really shocked and devastated him to the point where I’ve never seen him before.”

Jeff Healy will be sadly missed what a wonderful person and musician. He leaves a wonderful legacy to not only his children but for all children and future artists.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

It’s really not okay to talk shit about Wolfgang. He’s just a kid. What did you look like when you were his age? The kids has more talent in his elbow than you have in your whole dumb ass body

Why dont you boneheads give the Eddie a break? I caught the show at the Honda Center in Anahiem. They were flippin incredible. Ed was the the best I have ever seen or heard him of the 10 previous times with and without Dave. Dave was the best and most professional of anytime previously seen with or without VH. Ed’s got some serious medical issues working that have nothing to do with meth. Meth is for idiots who cant afford to buy real drugs if they want them. I’m fairly certain Ed can afford whatever he wants. Quit talking about him like he’s he owes you something. He doesnt. Get well brother! Get well and rock on.

RIP Jeff. You will be missed

I guess that linked clip sums up why it is so silly to see a rock show in a sports arena…the sound is tinny and terrible, it’s impossible to tell what’s going on (Eddie sounds way outta tune but, from the look of it, few fans can tell or care) and it ends in hallow chaos.

Good luck Van Halen!

RIP Mr.Healey

Eddie don’t ruin this for me. I paid a lot of dough to get the best seats at an upcoming show. You only have until mid april can’t you stick it out until then? Stay clean. Remember last year you promised the fans 110%. I expect you to deliver. Thank you.

Whether you’re for or against, that’s a disgusting screen name. You should be ashamed of yourself.

“Doing meth and gaining 35 pounds? I just don’t see that as possible. The boy had a serious acne problem, though. That’s for sure.”

EDDIE HAS THE METH PROBLEM, MOTORBREATH, not Wolfgang. The guy looks like a stick.

And if he’s did put on any weight at all, (which I don’t see, and it certainly wasn’t 35 pounds), it’s because he stopped for a while.

Instead of your personal speculation. Try doing a little research.

Rock and roll | 3/3/2008, 2:15 pm EST

Eddie better get his shit together.I got tickets to the show and i was looking forward to it. DOn’t fuck this up for me eddie. YOu got talent. No one can play the guitar like you. Why can’t you just stay clean and finish the tour out for the FANS? OR is the ticket money being used for drugs and alcohol? You disapoint me eddie. Please stay clean. Deal with your demons later. I paid alot of money for the best seats and i expect a stellar performance. You already went to rehab and promised the fans 110%. SO i expect you to keep that promise. THank you and rock on.

Aborted Fetus | 3/3/2008, 1:55 pm EST

R.I.P Jeff Heally and R.I.P. to Van Halen. We will miss you.

talkingtowalls | 3/3/2008, 1:17 pm EST

i just looked at the video…all it looks like is that Ed was pissy, threw a guitar (and pretty much every guitar player thinks about doing that, the ones with the cash / lack of care can get away with it) and either hit the amps to vent or to put them in dave’s way/hit him with them. probably because the two of them are in a spat again. or because he’s stopped going to meetings again.

Paul Sheridan, Hawkestone, Ont | 3/3/2008, 1:14 pm EST

I think, unlike RS; that Jeff Healey is somewhat more deserving of little more than a footnote regarding his all too soon passing.

Doubtful, my friend | 3/3/2008, 1:12 pm EST

Doing meth and gaining 35 pounds? I just don’t see that as possible. The boy had a serious acne problem, though. That’s for sure.

Metal Shawn G | 3/3/2008, 1:10 pm EST

It’s a well-known fact he has a meth problem . . . DUDE!

Sanchez | 3/3/2008, 12:41 pm EST

RIP Jeff Healey.

Michael Anthony | 3/3/2008, 12:28 pm EST

I heard that the reasons VH canceled their tour is because Eddie Van Halen is too distraught over the divorce with Valerie and upset after reading in Valerie’s book that she’s blowing off every just about every guy on the West Coast. Also Eddie is upset with his fat son, Wolfgang, that he hasn’t been getting laid at all during the tour and needs to lose his virginity. Eddie and Wolfgang were reportedly doing meth and coke together during the tour and Wolfgang gained another 35 pounds. Man, too bad.

The Dude of Life | 3/3/2008, 12:13 pm EST

Who sais anything about Meth? - Stop the rumor mill!!!

RIP Jeff | 3/3/2008, 12:05 pm EST

Just cause he’s Canadian he gets a half-assed eulogy?

You guys gave Miles Whatever from Band Of Gypys his own post.

Jeff Healey’s done lots of things. He was discovered by Stevie Ray at 15, recorded with BB King, George Harrison, etc. He has his own club and scene in Toronto similar to Buddy Guy in Chigaco.

I might have a bend perception of Jeff Healey and his accomplishments though since i’m North of the border.

Marc J | 3/3/2008, 11:56 am EST

I was at the Toronto Show last fall . VH was awesome. I just wish that Eddie could get over his personal demons amd play for the people who care: HIS FANS!!!

Metal Shawn G | 3/3/2008, 11:37 am EST

It’s too bad. It looked like the revamped VH thing was working. I Never touched it, but I know that Meth shit is almost impossible to kick. It’s ingredients are nothing but skulls and crossbones. Nasty!!! Get well soon, Ed.
