Justin Timberlake, Lou Reed, Billy Joel and More Recruited for Rock Hall Inductions

2/27/08, 5:30 pm EST

Justin Timberlake, Lou Reed, Billy Joel and John Fogerty are among the artists that have been recruited to induct this year’s class at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony on March 10th in New York. Timberlake, who is shooting the baseball film The Open Road in Louisiana, will fly to NYC to usher Madonna into the Hall, another in a long line of collaborations (he appears on the Material Girl’s “Four Minutes to Save the World,” the first single from her new album Hard Candy). In other Hall of Fame news, the Velvet Underground’s Lou Reed will induct Canadian singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen, while Billy Joel will welcome John Mellencamp into the Hall. Additionally, Tom Hanks will introduce the Dave Clark Five, Fogerty will induct the Ventures, Ben Harper will welcome blues great Little Walter and Jerry Butler will induct the songwriting team and Philadelphia soul pioneers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.

I have alot of criticism for the Hall as well. I call myself a rocker…headbanger, etc. I actually found it fitting for the DC 5 to be inducted and actually didn’t mind John Cougar, and everyone except Madonna and the tasteless remarks by Justin Timberlake….I actually loved Tom Hanks’ speech… you could tell it came from the heart, but YEAH, what about the real bands that deserve to be there…what about ALL THE BANDS I HAVE SPENT THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS explaining to my kids how great me and my friends thought they were and the ones my kids are playing Rock Band to and learning guitar and idolizing????? Those would be of course the above-mentioned…Alice Cooper, Deep Purple and other greats.

I agree that some of rock and rolls legends have been negelegted, but why all the hate for JT??? The man is a living legend, and although maybe his music isn’t even close to Rock and Roll, he is a music Icon…Which i would say makes him more than worthy of announcing inducties? I thought Metallica got inducted a couple years ago? May be wrong. But damn quit bashing JT so much, he’s the man!!!

If you remove all the filler, which is an exhaustive list of musical acts,

The moral of the story is:

There are a lot of artists who should be in The Hall Of Fame, and a lot who shouldn’t be.

$7.95 please

Nothing like trying to make this as unwatchable as possible….

wrecksracer | 2/28/2008, 12:32 pm EST

Jeez! What passes for Rock and Roll these days………still no Link Wray in the HOF? Pathetic!

Defender of the Faith | 2/28/2008, 11:34 am EST

All I can say, is “where is Rush?”

REJ | 2/28/2008, 9:52 am EST

Man ….the hall is getting mighty thin! maybe they should stop inducting for 10 years and see what develops?

what? | 2/28/2008, 9:10 am EST

alvaro,

the moody blues, deep purple, are you serious? you either have the worst taste in music or a great sense of humor.

Alvaro | 2/28/2008, 6:36 am EST

I think that Rock Hall is absolutely worthless.

Think about all the great names that haven’t been inducted: Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Yes, Procol Harum, The Moody Blues, Love, Tom Waits, Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Genesis and many many more…

Peter S. | 2/28/2008, 6:14 am EST

Has Tom Waits been inducted? Does he want to be? Would he accept?

JD | 2/28/2008, 1:09 am EST

This will be the second time that Timberflake will induct somebody yet I don’t see him being inducted himself 20 years or so from now. Why does that tool have to be everywhere? And to be mentioned in the same sentence as Joel, Reed and Fogarty? Not in the same class.

But I am happy for Mellencamp being inducted. I saw him in concert last week and he was awesome. I have more respect for him than ever before. Now that’s a talent and a real American.

bowieno | 2/27/2008, 11:12 pm EST

Why do they always link Tustin Jimberlake with Rock-n-Roll. he’s a Disney/Boy Band Spawn. There is nothing Rock-n-Roll about that. Unless he’s gay–then I could understand that

J.S. | 2/27/2008, 10:31 pm EST

What? Madonna gets in before Whitney? Whitney is actually a LIVE entertainer.

Roy | 2/27/2008, 8:09 pm EST

Billy Joel inducting Mellencamp? How awesome. Two of the best songwriters of the last 35 years, and one is paying homage to the other. Let’s hope Billy performs one of John’s songs that night with John’s band backing him.
