Festival News: Stone Temple Pilots and Linkin Park in Toronto; Ozzfest Docked in Dallas?

2/26/08, 2:16 pm EST

The reunited Stone Temple Pilots have added another concert to their summer tour, picking up headlining duties at this year’s Edgefest in Toronto on July 12th with Linkin Park, the Sam Roberts Band and the Bravery also on the bill. Edgefest becomes the second festival to book STP, joining Columbus, Ohio’s Rock on the Range fest on May 17th. Last month, Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash predicted Weiland would leave VR to reunite with the group that gave him his big break. The reunion seemed to be up in the air after Weiland made a trip to rehab in late January, but it was eventually confirmed with the announcement of the Ohio gig.

In other festival news, reports suggest that the heavy metal road show that is Ozzfest will potentially morph into a two day non-touring event in Dallas, TX, with the titular Ozzy Osbourne as the main attraction. The going-on-thirteen-summers-old portable festival is facing additional competition this summer from the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour, which touts Disturbed as its headliner. In 2007, Ozzfest offered free admission, with concertgoers procuring tickets through sponsors’ websites.

wow, STP needs to hire a new publicist/manager/something. just like billy corgan’s mistake with the pumpkins reunion….WAIT UNTIL THE DEMAND IS HIGH BEFORE YOU REUNITE!!! i love STP, but i could care less about the reunion…what has it been, 5, 6, years??? who cares? and not only that, they’re playing festivals in which they’re the only rock band. linkin park fans aren’t old enough to even know what STP is. weiland and co. could have gone down as a killer rock band that never got enough respect, instead they’ll go down as a desperate glam rock act that needs to go away.

I think Weiland should just do another SOLO album. I loved 12 bar blues.

@ chris: No offense dude but it doesn’t matter about the “demand.” Velvet Revolver had reccently released Libertlad, Army Of Anyone broke up so they figured it was most convenient. Also I’m actually a fan of Linkin Park and I KNOW WHO STP ARE. STP have already gone down as an initially a rip-off band of Pearl Jam but proved to be MUCH better than Pearl Jam, they’re Alt Rock legends.
