Rock List: Readers’ Best Female-Fronted Bands

2/25/08, 5:24 pm EST

Last week, we asked the Rock Daily readers to vote for which Female-Fronted Band was their favorite. After deliberating amongst ourselves what bands met the requirements (our apologies to not-quite-frontwomen Kim Gordon and Exene Cervenka) and tallying the votes, we now have your list of the best lady-led bands ever. But rather than merely reading the results, click here for the gallery of your choices and see where the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Hole, Blondie and others ended up.

It’s too bad Pat Benatar was not a part of this. She is a notable exception. She has had an incredible band that’s been together for almost 30 years.

And she rocks harder than almost anyone else who is seated.

To ANYONE who knows what TRUE rockandroll really is, the only real question is who is number 2? There is no woman in rock EVER, who comes close to Chrissie Hynde. Shirley Manson and Garbage would be next for me, and Hole on a good Courtney Love day.

How did The Slits and The Raincoats fail to make this list?

Fire Woman | 2/25/2008, 7:26 pm EST

Because you have to submit your votes to the superdeligate because she does ALL the voting!

Mateo | 2/25/2008, 8:02 pm EST

So Le Tigre made it, but Bikini Kill didn’t? Explain that one to me.

Jeremy | 2/26/2008, 8:15 am EST

The Patti Smith Group not making this list is a crime and nearly all the bands on this list would probably agree.

Clamhorn | 2/26/2008, 9:02 am EST

I can only imaging how bad Hole’s unplugged show sounded. Courtney Love’s voice is nearly as appealing as the sound of rotting trash being scraped off the bottom of a garbage can, even when produced in a studio. Including her on this list is a disservice to any woman who has ever picked up a mic or guitar. Hole unplugged? No thank you. Please, please, no.

auburn | 2/26/2008, 9:43 am EST

Comfort Inn | 2/26/2008, 1:57 pm EST

No Biff Naked?

Dion | 2/26/2008, 5:24 pm EST

Ahem. Has anyone heard Yoko Ono’s peerless ‘Plastic Ono Band’, a far more emotive and brilliantly realised effort than her husband’s album of that name? Why, Why Not and Touch Me have to be three of the greatest freak out tracks in all of rock. Zappa never came close.

Chicago | 2/26/2008, 6:49 pm EST

I know I’m probably gonna get some hate for this but: Hayley Williams from Paramore. Purely because of her zombie obsession.
