Vedder, Young, Springsteen, Rage Feature on “Body of War” Soundtrack

2/21/08, 2:43 pm EST

As Rock Daily told you earlier this month, for the new documentary Body of War, the film’s subject, Tomas Young, compiled two discs worth of music that inspired him when he was paralyzed from the chest after being shot during his first week of duty in Iraq. The soundtrack, titled Body of War: Songs That Inspired an Iraq War Veteran, features songs “that inspired, motivated, and at times, literally saved me over the past few years,” explains Young. The album features contributions from Lupe Fiasco, Roger Waters, System of a Down, Bruce Springsteen, Bright Eyes and many more, as well as that live at Lollapalooza 2007 version of “No More” that Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder performed with Ben Harper. To get a preview of and to pre-order the album, check out their Web site. In the meantime, follow the jump for the complete tracklist.

I did like the first track by Brendan James, just checked out his myspace page, clever stuff from what I heard. I’m thinking he’s going to be pretty big.

I also enjoyed Kimya Dawson. I was surprised to learn that she was the voice behind a lot of the Juno songs, she’s brilliant. Lovely voice.

I’m a huge fan of Ben Harper, love him this time and every time. I seriously do not think this man can do any wrong. Fantastic.

The rest, were all, well, were worth skipping so I could here Ben, Brendan and Kimya again.

Great songs with a lot of amazing artists that I’ve grown up listening as well as some talent that I’d never heard. Very impressed by first track by Brendan James. Also diggin Bad Religion.

Well, it sure seems like RS’s readership IQ and demographics have shifted since I first started reading in the 70s.

Guess the counter-culture really is dead. Vedder et al are doing a great thing here, whether you like it or not.

I agree with Lefty….

I hate it when people use their celebrity status to promote their own agenda..Just play your songs or if you are an actor just star in your movies and shut the F*** up with all the damn propaganda B.S.!!!! This stuff is getting so damn old. You never see Conservative celebrities do this kind of stuff when a Liberal is in the white house. Well even if they do it doesn’t get the media attention that this kind of thing does. Stop trying to pass this type of thinking as main stream when it is not no matter what side it is on. It is NOT patriotic..it is just irritating.

Like crummy movies that are released direct-to-video, here’s a cd destined for the bargain bin. The fact that every Iraq war movie released last year was box office dud is a good indicator that this cd will be discounted to a buck-ninety-nine soon after its realase.

Can’t wait for the anti-abortion soundtrack from these guys!
