Yesterday the Net was abuzz with news that Eminem will release a memoir titled Eminem: The Way I Am on October 16th. U.K. publisher Orion Books announced the book will feature unseen photographers of the rapper in addition to lyrics, journal notes and sketches. “It’ll be one of the books of the year,” Ian Preece of Orion books said. “Because of where he is from, people think they know where he is at, what kind of person he really is. This book cuts through all that and gets to the source.” The lack of any official announcement from the Shady camp in addition to the news came only via a British publishing house raised some red flags here at Rock Daily, but according to Em’s publicist, a book is in the works — even if they weren’t quite ready to announce it.
“While there is a book in the works from Eminem in which he details certain aspects of his personal and professional life, the book is still in the process of being written and edited. There is no firm release date scheduled, although it is anticipated to arrive in the latter part of this year,” clarifies Em’s rep. “The news about the project today came from the U.K. publisher, who is not involved in the day-to-day editing or creation of the book. It’s unfortunate that someone who does not have intimate knowledge of the book felt compelled to jump the gun on announcing it by delivering partial and inaccurate information.” If the October date proves to be correct, might it coincide with the release of his long-awaited new album? That is the exact time of year labels tend to unleash their biggest releases. Stay tuned.
