Madonna’s New Album and Video: Exclusive Rolling Stone Preview

2/15/08, 5:05 pm EST

Madonna has managed to keep most details about her still-untitled follow-up to 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor (due April 29th) under wraps, but Rolling Stone got an early listen to five tracks today and some behind-the-scenes info from producer Nate “Danja” Hills.

Fans who worried that Madonna might be losing inspiration as she approaches fifty need not be concerned. The new album takes a few steps away from the hyper-polished future disco of Confessions toward a more urban-oriented, thumpy funk, featuring production by Timbaland and Pharrell, as well as collaborations with Justin Timberlake. Danja says he worked on the album in London, and that Madonna indicated “she just wanted uptempo, dance, club [sounds] and everything to have a hip-hop underlining.” He adds that Madonna was easy-going and frequently in the studio putting in long hours alongside himself, Timbaland and Timberlake: “She would come in and sit in her chair in the corner and just vibe with us.”

The record’s first single is “4 Minutes to Save the World,” the track Timbaland partially debuted during a Philadelphia Christmas concert in December. “4 Minutes” has a bit of a marching band aesthetic as blasting brass play a scale-like riff, a hard, clanging beat enters and Madonna sings that the “road to heaven is paved with good intentions.” Timberlake and Madonna trade verses, and he appears on the chorus, doing his best Michael Jackson impression while quickly crooning, “We’ve only got four minutes to save the world.” The track ends after a brief breakdown where everything drops out but one of Tim’s signature Bhangra beats, some stabs of brass and Madonna’s urgent tick-tock’s. It’s a loud, busy, energetic track that is apparently getting an equally adventurous video: As previously reported, the clip (which is still being completed) is directed by hot French duo Jonas & François (Justice’s “D.A.N.C.E.”). Timbaland makes an appearance, and Madonna and Timberlake play superheroes tackling physical obstacles. The clip features choreography by Jamie King, who worked on Madonna’s Confessions, Re-Invention and Drowned World tours as well as her video for Confessions‘ “Sorry.”

The Pharrell-produced “Candy Store” opens with a big beat and Madonna’s invitation to “Come on in to my store, I got candy galore.” The track is pretty bare on the verses, but there’s a flash of brassy soul on the chorus when harmonies join Madonna singing, “I’ll be your one stop (one stop) candy shop.” The track is punctuated with throbbing breaks filled with hypnotic synths, and Pharrell jumps on the mike for a brief rhyme.

The most lyrical of the five songs is “Miles Away,” a wistful tune about a long-distance relationship with a melody that resembles Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds, an album Danja says Madonna admired. “We would come up with a track and him and Madonna would come and do lyrics and melody together,” Danja explains. The song opens with a quickly strummed acoustic guitar, then a stuttering beat drops in and the track slowly swells until it’s filled with atmospheric synths. “You always seem to have the biggest heart when we’re 6,000 miles apart,” Madonna sings grandly, lamenting, “I guess we’re at our best when we’re miles away.” The song has a more airy aesthetic compared to the heavy beats on other tracks, which reflects its more emotional lyrics.

The track that sounds most like a more urban, edgy continuation of Confessions is the excellent “Give It to Me,” which bumps along to a thick synth tone Danja employed on Britney Spears’ Blackout. It’s an aggressive, clubby track with a raw, house-y beat that’s ripe for remixing, and Madonna sings, “When the lights go down and there’s no one left I can go on and on.” It ends after a fast, killer breakdown where she chants “Get stupid” over a xylophone chime as the beat builds into a frenzy and she proclaims, “Give it to me / No one’s gonna stop me now.”

The dance floor theme returns again on “Heartbeat,” which boasts a thumping hip-hop beat with a sandpaper shuffle and twinkling Eighties-reminiscent synths. Madonna opens up her voice more, singing, “Can’t you see when I dance I feel free / Which makes me feel like the only one the light shines on.” The song features a brief rap breakdown that recalls Nelly Furtado’s chanty “Promiscuous” (”See my booty get down,” Madonna speak-sings), but returns to its clubby roots in the end.

Demarcus | 2/15/2008, 11:37 pm EST

Sounds like she’s trying to hard to stay young and hip. I can’t wait for Janet Jackson’s album on Feb. 26th

Paula | 2/16/2008, 12:18 am EST

What I most like about Madonna is that she keeps changing her style and music like a chameleon. Of course sometimes it doesn’t work out, but she never tries to repeat herself (and that’s a respectful thing in my opinion).
I love Mariah and Janet as well, but the main problem I have with them, is that their music does not make a drastic change as Madonna does. Mariah’s new single “Touch My Body” sounds like something she already did on her EOM album. And Janet’s “Feedback” (while a very good, catchy tune), sounds nothing new to her.
I have a huge feeling that Madonna’s new album will be her comeback to the American charts. Can’t wait for the video clip too!

david m | 2/16/2008, 1:01 am EST

All true MADONNA fans anxiously await this new album !!

FaNaT!c S!nCe 5 | 2/16/2008, 2:06 am EST

MADONNA CAN DO NO WRONG! I’VE LOVED SINCE I WAS 5,I LOVE HER NOW AND THAT WILL NEVER CHANGE. THIS NEW ALBUM WILL MARK THE END OF AN ERA AND THE BEGINNING OF AN NEW HORIZON IN MADGE’S GLOBAL TAKE OVER. MARIAH AND JANET HAVE NOTHING ON THE QUEEN OF THE DANCE FLOOR…”GIVE IT TO ME/NO ONES GONNA STOP ME NOW”

dams | 2/16/2008, 2:51 am EST

i cant wait for her new album ! she always change for each new album .. new sound new producer new attitude sometimes its work very well sometimes it’s not but at least she tries she take risks ! i hope radio in the US will play her new stuff

Arturomail | 2/16/2008, 3:29 am EST

The release of a new Madonna album always marks a new chapter not only in our lives but in MUSIC (all facets rock, pop, dance, et al) history.
Whats twenty five years, when she paved the road to others and most importantly made our lives that much richer.
Music is an art, both are trades. She is the Queen because inspite of the raves and by some loons, pans…she has delivered us from our youth serving as our soundtrack without disappointment and always her way.
Heres to US radio finally getting Madonna back on the air…and heres to an explosive spring, summer and remainder of 2008 and 2009!
I can hear the clock ticking already, the last time it ticked, she broke records hitting #1 in 41 countries by having one of the top singles of ALL TIME…we’re all still hung up on her and anticipating with bated breath for another 4 minutes time and time again!

madgeic | 2/16/2008, 4:12 am EST

Can’t wait to buy this album!

I agree, one of Madonna’s great virtues is that she is ever experimenting and creating. Some of her work have even been very risky (like doing electronica at the height of hiphop), yet she does what she feels like doing. And the fans have benefited! She’s never boring, always entertaining, always stupendously marvelous and awesome!

GREEK BOY | 2/16/2008, 6:11 am EST

wow..i caaaaaaaaaaaaaant wait

this will be HOOT AND DIRTY AGAIN

GU$ | 2/16/2008, 7:41 am EST

madonna usually sets new trends and finds new producers and although the neptunes and timbaland are tallented hit makers whose music i enjoy most of the time they are used by everyone and their sound is becoming too generic because of this. the album will probably be good but it will be similar to albums released my numerous other pop stars, it would have been nice for her to find a less established pop producers.

Tobby | 2/16/2008, 8:07 am EST

Sounds like this album is gonna be as good (or better) than Like a Prayer, I love the fact that she’s not affraid to take her music in way different directions

rayray (the latino prince) | 2/16/2008, 8:09 am EST

i respect her and so does mariah..leave her and the mariah battle alone…hopefully it doesnt sound funny u know im not trynna be a hater but i hope madonnas voice sounds good on hip -hop..mariah will sell millions and so will madonna i wish the best..the latinos love u mariah!!!!! and madonna of course…

calin | 2/16/2008, 8:16 am EST

Each album she has ever made tells a different story and has a unique sound. No album sounds alike which is why I admire and adore M. She is truly talented and an ICON.

GK | 2/16/2008, 8:22 am EST

Well, being a lifelong fan of Madonna, im actually not looking forward to this. Hip-hop has been a scourge on the music world for too long and has all but ruined the music scene in the US. To see Madonna embrace it simply because she is dying to have a hit record on these shores is pathetic and she loses much of my respect for doing so. I have heard both 4 mnutes and Candy shop and both are dreadful. Hip hop is NOT dance music and I really wish some people would stop acting like it is. I really hope this album is a total bomb and that her true fans, her DANCE fans send her a message that we wont tolerate this kind of garbage being produced by someone who can do so much better.

Aimeee | 2/16/2008, 8:39 am EST

Her Madgesty

E=MC2 | 2/16/2008, 8:40 am EST

Mariah will rule and kill Madge!!!!

uhhh | 2/16/2008, 8:47 am EST

GK…dont be so closed minded. Madonna’s a pioneer. It aint like she’s gonna be doing some hard core rap. i personally cant wait…but while ur sitting at home still listening to material girl we’ll all be bumping 4 minutes to save the world!!

Scott in space | 2/16/2008, 8:53 am EST

I’m hoping for the best, but i’ve heard two songs and they sounded disasterous. It sounds forced and unfortunately forced never works. Kudos to Britney for going with a lesser known producer becasue she put out one of the best POP albums EVER. Let’s just hope Madonna makes better videos for this album..what the heck was that “jump” garbage????.

annoyed | 2/16/2008, 9:21 am EST

remember when madonna found producers before their prime? M had the talent to work these guys before they were making hits for everyone else. This alone gave her the cred she deserved. Now she is working with britney’s producer. Don’t get me wrong i am sure I’ll love the album, but it wont be anything like Orbit’s and Mirwais’ productions.

JoJo | 2/16/2008, 9:47 am EST

I hope that someday Gloria Estefan and Madonna will do a duet.

Mariah’s new song it’s a bit supid! It’s like a childeren song. I mean: COME ON, she is 38!

adelina | 2/16/2008, 9:47 am EST

i’m waiting! i love you, madonna, you’re the best woman ever!!!

Mimi | 2/16/2008, 10:05 am EST

I hope her album is good, but I can’t stand her… But I hope Mariah out sells her… I don’t think that Madonna has 17 or 18 #1 hits, only second to the beatles??? Go MIMI!!

JPalmer | 2/16/2008, 10:13 am EST

Good to hear, can’t wait to hear all of it…definitely a businesswoman …keeping everything interesting and new.

Kate | 2/16/2008, 10:17 am EST

I’ll buy this CD…Madonna the queen

fuas | 2/16/2008, 10:23 am EST

OMFG, I’m gonna piss my pants. This album is gonna be HUGE.

Daniel R. H. | 2/16/2008, 10:25 am EST

Interesting, maybe a Must-have album for 2008?

GKP | 2/16/2008, 10:29 am EST

Madonna is the best, but she could use a little “Kylie” style. Straight up pop and fun to dance to!

Mikell | 2/16/2008, 10:38 am EST

Justin Timberlake needs to GO AWAY!! Does he have to do everything Timbaland does? I’m sure I will love 4 Minutes, but I am so sick of hearing JT on every song!

Carolyn | 2/16/2008, 10:51 am EST

I can’t wait for the new album, though I really wish she was not working with JT. I don’t want to hear anyone’s voice but her’s! And “annoyed” hit it on the head..before she worked with producers before they were hot..now this? Duran Duran worked with JT and Timba..not to their detriment but come on M – keep the bar set high!

Paulie | 2/16/2008, 10:59 am EST

“I can’t wait for Janet Jackson’s album on Feb. 26th”

I think you’re the only one.

Dustin | 2/16/2008, 11:05 am EST

This album is her send off to/from Warner Brothers…the record label that for years tried to get her to work with current mainstream producers….it worked three times before with: Nile Rodgers, Dallas Austin, Babyface, Dave “Jam” Hall, and David Foster….but for the most part she has been working with cutting edge unknown producers.
That said, I understand that ppl have issues with the fact that Timbaland has exploded onto the mainstream, but he is one of the most original beatmakers in the US music industry today. Listen to his work on Ashley Simpsons “Oughta My Head” and then to Nelly Furtado’s “Say It Right” you can tell there there is a whole different sound from th same producer.
I think this may ultimately be her biggest smash since Ray of Light…not to say she is desperate for one…She is after all the only female to have had all her albums this decade debut number one in the US and UK as well as nearly 40 other countries…Madonna will always be there, and it’s ok change the channel every once in a while, cause in the end…we all know you’re coming back home to Madge.

Alex | 2/16/2008, 11:18 am EST

good reading this article.i also heard that she will sing some words in spanish.i am so happy if this is true and one day i would love to see a collaboration between Madonna and Gloria Estefan. They are my idols of my life.

Tim | 2/16/2008, 11:28 am EST

I totally agree with GK. Couldn’t have said it better myself. And let me just repeat, Hip hop is NOT dance music.

Jamie | 2/16/2008, 11:35 am EST

Madonna fans as USUAL bringing up Mariah’s name. That just shows how threatened you all are. Mariah “Touch My Body” is not one of her best songs, but the song is hot, and based off of airplay alone, it is sure to be a smash. The song has already reached over 25 million impressions in just four days, and it’s not even officially released to radio yet. Lets see how many radio impressions Madonna’s “4 Minutes To Save The World” will garner. By the way, isn’t Madonna suppose to be the female innovator? What is she doing jumping on the bandwagon? Timbaland and JT? The Neptunes? These people are all used up. Her music for me has gone more, and more down the drain. I can’t wait to hear the first single for I can judge for myself. I doubt I’m gonna like it.

With that being said, I can’t wait for the new Janet, and Mariah. Bring it, ladies!

ANNETTE | 2/16/2008, 11:39 am EST

Candy store has a line that a lot like Christina Aguilera Candy Man.

kcv | 2/16/2008, 11:49 am EST

notice everyone these days seems to put out a new cd every 3 years, what the hell takes so long? i miss the vinyl era anyways, 40 minute lp’s, new singles/45’s, something is missing in the music world these days. longer doesn’t mean better necessarily when it comes to lp’s…oh btw i dig madonna, she’s cool! lol

Brent | 2/16/2008, 12:52 pm EST

You guys, obviously if Madonna wants to work with the Timbs, there’s a reason. It’s MADONNA. She knows what she’s doing. The album will be a smash. And quit bringing up Mariah. What does she have to do with anything? Sure a legend in her own right, but she is a singer, whereas Madonna is an entertainer. Huge diff.

Mel | 2/16/2008, 12:59 pm EST

I cannot wait, just hope the radio stations give her a chance.

Webo-boy | 2/16/2008, 1:29 pm EST

She’s turned into a total softy. Instead of doing something completely different and cutting edge, she’s decided to sound like everyone else. What happened to the innovator rebel we all grew up with. Theres nothing unique about Timbaland or JT, what can they possibly contribute artistically to Madonna. I do like somethings that Timbaland and JT have done, but Im really not looking forward to hearing their sound mixed with Madonna’s. The first two songs Ive heard are garbage. I hope I’m wrong about her next album & it really is good. I’m dieing to hear something different on the radio. Somebody please save us.

M | 2/16/2008, 1:43 pm EST

I’m not looking forward to this album for the first time in my life. I can’t stand Timbaland. He ruined Nelly Furtado’s sound from what she used to be (funky and totally different and talented as hell in “Turn off the LIght” etc.) to her current hits that are terrible (Maneater, Promiscuous). He’s gotton to Madonna now. That’s like Sam Lufti getting attached to Britney. Worse. The title Candy Shop alone makes me really nerveous. Sounds like an annoying dud, but I’m sure US radio will spin it all day long. And you guys, I AM A HUGE MADONNA FAN!! In the end, I will buy the album because my obsession with madonna goes way beyond her music but I do think this is unfortunate. She seems desperate. I just hope she had some fun recording it and that her spirit somehow informs the music. I am judging her work based on the few snippets I heard that leaked out. I can’t speak for the rest of the album because I haven’t heard it.

pedro the lion | 2/16/2008, 1:47 pm EST

c mon guys, i mean they r all good, madonna, janet, mariah, i mean Madonna innovates so does Janet ( not in a drastic way). For Mariah, i think she should innovate, she s been singing the same for ever and this woman has such a voice that its a sin to just wast it with that bad dressing and attitude. still i love her voice. For Madonna….shes hot and shes good and not full of shit. she will rock and who cares if US radio stations don t play her songs? the rest of the planet will. and again she will set a trend, and thats the difference between these ladys.
peace

Zander | 2/16/2008, 1:53 pm EST

I use to love Madonna and to a certain degree I guess I still do(I tolerate her).

The only thing Madonna is better at is recycling various other forms of expression or music styles and making them her own. For example:

Below are known facts:

She copied Cyndi Lauper in the 80’s. Madonna was nothing without Cyndi. No question here!

Vogue – inspired by gay NYC in the 80’s – watch “Paris is Burning” – you’ll get my drift. Do you really think a girl from Michigan really thought of Vogue or Vogueing? Absolutely not!

American Life – Ironic how in this album she never copied anyone else’s music style and the album was a disaster! Her negative views of America also backfired.

Confessions on A Dancefloor – ABBA, Donna Summer, Pet Shop Boys, inspired.

Music – so-so not her best, but manageable..

In my opinion: Immaculate Collection and Ray of Light are the only 2 albums with fantastic music material. What you expect of a true artist.

“Justify My Love”
“Like a Prayer”
“Papa Don’t Preach”
all amazing!

A true artist is someone who come’s up with an original masterpiece. Madonna hasn’t for a really long time….

MaHeatha | 2/16/2008, 2:03 pm EST

I looove Madonna BUT I think she is making a big mistake. I would rather her bring back Patrick Leanord, Dallas Austin, and William Orbit – then if she wanted anyone one else to sing with her on the record as far as hip hop goes it should have been JAY-Z AND EMINEM. Could you imagine!?!? Madonna and Eminem? So controversial!

fmm | 2/16/2008, 2:16 pm EST

“Michelle | 2/15/2008, 7:15 pm EST

She is the hardest working woman in the music industry of all time”
yeah sucking dicks is a huge work….
She is an overrated slut.

JP | 2/16/2008, 2:27 pm EST

People may be annoyed with the fact that she’s working with Timbaland but the truth is that the man is a musical genius and producing a Madonna record is probably the most important project he will ever have, (unless Michael Jackson asks him to produce his next record).

Madonna is working with 2 very talented people (Timbaland and Pharrel) and she has always been about dance music, so this is will be a club record with an hip of underlining (as Danja himself said). She’s not doing an hip hop album at all. Its dance music with a more funk vibe. She needs that actually, she’s been doing electronica for too long, so it’s the right moment for her to step out of the disco and go right into the streets. Perfect evolution if you ask me…

The leaked songs everyone talks about aren’t the final versions, they were simply the early demos. Candy Shop itself has A LOT of potential, with a great electronic bridge where she sings “My sugar is raw, sticky and sweet”, that is totally Madonna. Very ironic, sexy and fun! I can’t wait to hear the final mix on this one!

Is | 2/16/2008, 2:37 pm EST

“remember when madonna found producers before their prime?”

I think you’ll find Madonna “discovered” William Orbit after hearing his work on a Caroline Lavelle CD.

TimeForChange | 2/16/2008, 2:41 pm EST

Madonna has proven to be the hardest working entertainer in this business today. Looking back for years there has only been four female artists running neck to neck; Madonna, Janet, Mariah and Whitney. Madonna has been with us from the early 80’s, into the 90’s, and she opened up the year 2000 with Music and four additional cds to follow. Madonna is the queen of Pop/Dance and make no mistakes about this. There will never be another artist like her in history. She’s willing to take chances and knows when to deliver. This year we will see the four women meeting again, however, which artist will offer us something new. ONLY MADONNA! We have heard Janet’s and Mariah’s new singles, however, we are going to embrace Madonna’s new single no matter what. Between the music and lyrics, you will find yourself singing or humming alone without any music playing at all. Music has been boring for the past two years. So hell yeh, we are hoping that Janet and Mariah cds are great, but one thing for sure is that Madonna is going to give you something for the ears. Just wait and see how many will follow suit when La M’s cd is released (meaning other artists jumping on the band wagaon). Remember, producers are only big as the artist. When Madonna lays out a plan, believe me she knows what she wants and how the final package is to be presented. Madonna agenda has always been about a timeforchange. Why has she been us so long? She’s about business! Love Ya Madonna

Mariah has not done anything original since she started out. They are all sound a like an unoriginal.

And yes Mariah may have had a lot of mumber 1 hits in the states, but her success worldwide doesn’t even come close to Madonna’s.Hung Up is now one of the biggest selling singles of all time and Sorry won the Ivor Novello award (something Mariah will not got close too)

She DOES NEED TO BE MORE LIKE KYLIE!!
She’s too old for this Hip Hop thing now

Can’t wait 4 this new cd and the re-mixes to here singles Madonna is the best & doh she mite not have as many main stream no.1s in the u.s she has more than any no. 1s on the dance floor chart’s in the u.s around the world Madonna’s albums have sold more than any other female artist has madge Ireland is crazy 4 u xxx

Bryant | 2/16/2008, 3:04 pm EST

Not looking forward to this album it seems that Madonna is trying to use Urban underlining because the pop and disco stuff wasn’t selling. Madonna has always been unoriginal biting others’ style (vogueing, Jody Watley’s high fashion videos, etc.) but this is just annoying no one wants to see a 50-year old white woman jumping on an R&B/Hip-Hop bandwagon. It did not work with Bedtime Stories in 1994 it is not going to work for her in 2008–stop biting Mariah’s style she is the Queen of Pop/R&B style and has been for the past 18 years Madonna.

It’s the Madonna fans who are always bringing Mariah’s name up. Threatened and scared. And who cares if Madonna sales more worldwide? Big Whoop. The fact of the matter is that her music no longer holds any relevance. On top of that, she jumped on the bandwagon.

P.G. | 2/16/2008, 3:33 pm EST

Not, Madonna does not have as many numbers 1 than Mariah Carey, but more success, yes… Nobody is easily deceived. Certain smashes of Mariah did not reach the twentieth position in other countries… Curiously, since its divorce against Mottola, the signals are made fewer, as if its influence had played much in its last success… It is sure that this strategic marriage gave her a certain advantage. It is said that Madonna copies Mariah with this new disc. One could say some as much with that of Mariah, which aims the tracks of dance straightforwardly. Finally, concerning the album, I fear also the influence of Timbaland, but I trust Madonna. She has reigned without division for 25 years. She will still triumph

POPLife | 2/16/2008, 3:34 pm EST

Everyone…we as Madonna fans need to protect her, and trust that this record will be a smash…and its up to us to make it a smash.

Don’t get me wrong… I loooove Pop music, yet this year is going to be a rocky road for some artists, because 4 divas are making a comeback this year.

So if you LOOOOVe the Queen of Pop, then support her… and start requesting her song on radio…if there is a demand then the stations will folow through.

Yes I am a little nervous about this colaboration… yet Madonna knows what she is doing, and she is ALWAYS in Control!!!!

I can’t wait to hear this record!!! And buy 5 copies!!!!
[True Madonna fans should follow suit...Madonna deserves to stay at #1 no matter what.]

In closing…Make sure you defend Madonna…I dare someone to talk shit about her and her music…and I defend her like she’s my mother or something. In short, I challenge all the Madge: Watch out for MadonnaMania is here to STAY!

jim | 2/16/2008, 3:35 pm EST

yeaaahh THE ONE AND ONLY MADONNA come back , elle va tout niquer sur son passage , vivement l’album , et la prochaine tournée en FRANCE !! ;)

Nebs | 2/16/2008, 3:38 pm EST

Well, this “Bryant” is a total ignoramus, obviously. Since when did COADF have trouble selling? It was a #1 album. Did you miss the Grammy awards for that too? Madonna has never had a perfect formula for an album. Doing dance music turned out to be a successful risk. That will probably be the case again.

iron man | 2/16/2008, 3:39 pm EST

madonna bitting on mariah style?! that would be new…!actually, what mariah style? i don t think madonna looks up at mariah for style, i think she goes on the opposite direction. Mariah has lots of nice songs but not really someone madonna would like be like. and for the records sold, good for mariah. i m sure madonna is very happy with her AMAZING career.
peace

Fired Up | 2/16/2008, 3:47 pm EST

Let’s be realistic about the comments on Madonna vs Jody Watley. In 1986, Madonna had her third cd entitled “True Blue”. Jody Watley comes on the scene as a solo artist in 1987 with the cd entitled “Jody Watley”. Madonna by this time has been a trendsetter for two cds. It’s also true, that entertainment weekly, billboard, rolling stones, people magazines would refer to Jody Watley as the Black Madonna. Yes, I do love Jody Watley, however, Madonna continued to change her style from album to album. Just when the media thought she was through, she returned in 1990 and blew the year up! Now, as far as the cd “Bedtime Stories”. The cd was not supposed to be a urban/hip hop cd. The cd had mid-tempo songs with lots of ballads. Madonna and five black producers took credit for her cd. However, again, Billboard, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, People magazines gave her four star reviews and credited the cd as one of 1994 top ten cds of the year. No one takes anything from Mariah, however, she has taken some major setbacks, and has not been in the industry as long as Madonna. She does not sell out concerts and really is not recognized around the world as Madonna. Mariah new album will be successful, however, Madonna will sell in the US and other countries. That’s big to any artist. Madonna still has creative control of her music and has producers from everywhere wanting to work with her. That says alot. This is not the same for Mariah. Madonna is the Queen of Pop for a reason. She puts out music that you can sing along to for years to come and she knows how to entertain and sell out a concert.

Anonymous | 2/16/2008, 3:54 pm EST

She hasn’t stopped maiking music for 25 years, and I hope she keeps going for 25 more. No one has been as successful or relevant for as long as her.

FERNANDO | 2/16/2008, 4:35 pm EST

I WILL SPEAK MY PEACE ONCE AND FOR ALL, ADDRESSING ALL COMMENTS BELOW.

MADONNA AND MARIAH ARE BOTH HUGE SUPERSTARS. ALTHOUGH, THERE A ALOT OF THINGS THAT SET THEM APART.

MARIAH IS RECOGNIZED FOR NONE OTHER THAN HER VOICE (LET’S NOT FORGET SOME OF THOSE AWFUL “WE BELONG TOGETHER” PERFORMANCES WHERE SHE COULDN’T EVEN HOLD A NOTE DUE TO HER UNNECESSARY SCREECHING AND FORCING OF THE THROAT). MADONNA HERSELF HAS ADMITTED NOT BE A SINGER, ALTHOUGH WE MUST ACKNOWLEDGE HER SINGING HAS IMPROVED IN THE RECENT YEARS PAST DUE TO FORMAL TRAINING.

MADONNA IS A TRUE TREND-SETTER, INNOVATER, FASHION ICON AND ARTIST.

MARIAH’S IDEA OF FASHION IS COUNTLESS LOW-CUT, EXTREMELY SHORT, BARELY COVERING THE GOODIES, DRESSES IN DIFFERENT COLORS. I DON’T EVER RECALL HER GRACING COVERS OF MANY MAGAZINES, ADORED BY MAJOR FASHION DESIGNERS OR EVEN GIVEN TIME OF DAY BY ADVERTISERS.

UNLIKE MADONNA, MARIAH’S SOUND AND LOOK ON EVERY ALBUM ARE BOTH PREDICTABLE AND MONOTONOUS. SAD.

WHY SO MUCH HATE TOWARDS MADONNA? MAYBE BECAUSE 25 YEARS LATER WE SEE WHAT A TRUE BUSINESS WOMAN AND ARTIST HAS ACHIEVED AND YET TO CONQUER SO MUCH MORE. I BELEIVE THAT IS THE TRUE FEAR AND JEALOUSY.

AS FOR THE NEW ALBUM, IF YOU ARE TRULY A MADONNA FAN, YOU KNOW THAT SHE WILL NOT ALLOW HERSELF TO HAVE ANYTHING RESEMBLE TO ANYTHING HEARD. SO WHAT SHE IS USING TOP PRODUCERS?? SHE IS SMART! SHE IS MADONNA! SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE IS DOING. SHE IS NOT DESPERATE FOR A #1 AND DOESN’T NEED TO BE.

BY THE WAY, CONFESSIONS DID IN FACT OUTSELL EMANCIPATION AS IT SOLD OVER 12 MILLION COPIES WORLDWIDE. MARIAH DID NOT ACCOMPLISH THAT. IN FACT, MADONNA HAD THE #1 and #2 SINGLE SIMULATENOUSLY WITH HUNG UP AND SORRY ACROSS THE ENTIRE WORLD WHICH INCLUDES THE UNITED STATES.

SO IF YOU WANNA GIVE MARIAH KUDOS FOR HOLDING IT DOWN IN 1/8 OF THE WORLD, SO BE IT. THINK ABOUT WHO HAD THE OTHER 7/8’s.

AS A TRUE FAN, YOU ALSO KNOW THAT MADONNA WILL CONTINUE TO GROW AND EXPERIMENT. A TRUE FAN WILL GROW AND EXPERIMENT WITH HER. EMBRACE IT AND LOVE IT.

STOP HATING.

P.S. FORBE’S MOST RICHEST WOMEN OF MUSIC, MADONNA #1. MARIAH WAS #10, LOL.. OOPS.

Good comments. I agree with those fans who’re a bit dissapointed so far. I’ve been a huge fan myself since 1987 and this is the first time after hearing a snippet of new stuff that I caught myself saying “what the hell”… I can’t believe Madonna is so obviously desperate to conquer the commercial goal she couldn’t conquer with her last albums: US radio stations sympathy.

Also, would you stop mentioning that Mariah subject; it’s off-topic and we’re reading this in countries other than the US, where no-one’s ever bought a record of hers.

Madonna is a hag

Paul | 2/16/2008, 5:12 pm EST

I think whatever Madonna is planning with this album will be great. I think time and time again her ability to try new styles has always worked for her creativly. Although some albums have not been commercial successes, they have still been good solid albums that work for her and who she is about.
She has had one of the most accomplished carrers in the industry and no one can deny that she has outlasted most of the majors and continued creating material when others have lost their way.Why do citics dismiss her relevance? We should be praising a woman who is approaching her 50’s and has managed to stay at the top of this extremely competaive game. Always relevant and always taking huge risks with her carrer. The major difference with Madonna and all her younger and some same age counterparts is she is always paving the way…they follow suit. This is a fact.
I have been a fan of her work for 16 years and I have grown up listening, watching and sometimes learning. Always contemplating and absorbing the ideas she put’s forward. Taking the idea and pursuing it further, investigating and discovering. I think a true artist has the ability to make people think and want to learn. I dont really see many others in the industy with this ability.

me | 2/16/2008, 5:33 pm EST

if anything, I’d say she’s being influenced by te direction of Gwen Stefani’s solo career rather than Mariah’s. And ironically, Gwen is a total Madonna biter in her own right (although I do like them both). So it all comes around full circle.

Nick-UK | 2/16/2008, 6:06 pm EST

i have every record that madonna has released.Loved her for 25 years and im sure this will be a great album.Thankgod she changes her style, too many artists bring out the same tired old sounds all the time. She never lets me down thats for sure.

Ben | 2/16/2008, 6:31 pm EST

I have heard two of the songs from the new album and a poor mobile phone recording of 4 Minutes To Save The World. They sound great adn I cannot wait until this new album is out. I have been a huge fan since 1984 and i have all Madonna’s albums and just about every single. I love the changes she makes with every record. Cannot wait for the new album. It’s gonna be huge.

diane | 2/16/2008, 6:34 pm EST

MADONNA is the queen of reinvention! More power to her and her new record – I hope it’s as successful as she is beautiful!

david | 2/16/2008, 6:39 pm EST

I also think that whatever madonna does is amazing and she is just brilliant. I want to be her and i think that her children must have brilliant lives and that her music is brilliant. I think guy ritchie is great too and neat. I like the idea of her doing hip hop as it is a new thing for her and she will break down taboos in black and white cultures, which is also brilliant.

davesk8 | 2/16/2008, 6:42 pm EST

happens to the best…
madonna should stick with HER!
i have heard janets new cd… and it is AWESOME!!!!
go buy janets cd for pure PLEASURE!!

Emsie | 2/16/2008, 6:47 pm EST

Candy Store sounds like a bad rip off of Fifty Cent’s song. And I didn’t much like that one either. If Madonna were creating music as new and vibrant as, say, Springsteen I would welcome each new cd. But she is not. Her music is increasingly soulless and boring. Fast food for the mind, and lukewarm food at that. Why she’s so intent on being busy and churning out mediocre “music” is a mystery to me. I’d be happy enjoying the fruits of my labor with my family, turning out a few projects here and there. But I guess for Madonna when the ego roars she cannot contain herself. Pity.

VFlies | 2/16/2008, 6:54 pm EST

Can’t wait for the album, can’t wait for the video and especially can’t wait for the tour!!!!

OK people, let’s pull it together, take a deep breathe, and stop judging the album based on some crapp-uncut-leaked tracks we heard in low-quality on some bootleg site last year. and HELLO get a grip – MOOOO-Riah has nothing on Madonna.. and this album, although it features famous “NOW” clebs such as the “Tims” will be all Madonna’s … her albums always are, it’s because she is involved in every ascpet of the creation . HAven’t you learned that yet?

That all said… I love the woman! no I didn’t like those crappy low-qual snipets I heard either, but I did like the high qual one I heard just a few days ago “4 mins to save the world”. And let’s face it, for the fans, is there truely an album we didn’t buy, like, and enjoy singing along with on the readio and in concert?

Calm down kids, Madonna will not disappoint, and she won’t copy britney, gwen, moooooo-riah, or any of those other queens who can only do one thing at a time (Brit who can’t even seem to dance AND sing anymore.. nto that she has ever sang live). So let’s chill and wait… then she will dance and sing, stand up and do her thing as no one else can do!

HolidayGuy | 2/16/2008, 7:51 pm EST

This is so horrible.I cannot believe that Madonna is using the hottest producer and even Justin to get a hit on her hands in the US.

I thought she re-invents her music but apparently not. After thorough research, Madonna is just using the talent of other people and make it look like her own. I really hate this idea and she doesnt deserve all the respect she gets for this.

She is hardworking but she is not talented. She is smart but she is not talented, there is a difference between that.

I hope she flops really hard, she is 50 and looks like going 60 and she is trying to go ghetto? Ghetto grandma? That is horrible. I had been a fan since the start and I will not support her anymore.

I really hope and pray that this goes back to her face and that the US radio programmers will be SMART enough not to support her. In the first place, she abandoned america hence moving to Britain so why bother getting a desperate hit in the US? Focus in the UK since you always pretend to be british anyways.

I will really hope Justin and Timbaland wont be enough to give Madonna a hit. Madonna if you want to get a hit, get it yourself, dont make it look so desperate by using Justin Timberlake and Timabaland. Thats just so cheap. I cant believe you are even being called the queen of pop, you are the queen of users, queen of imitation.

I HOPE YOUR SONG AND ALBUM FLOP IN THE US

MARIAH'S THE QUEEN!!!!!!!!!! | 2/16/2008, 8:11 pm EST

MARIAH IS THE BEST SELLING FEMALE ARTIST EVER, HER MUSIC IS WAY BETTER THAN WHOREDONNA’S. MADONNA IS JEALOUS OF MARIAH. MARIAH KEEPS PUTTING HER DRY ASS TO SHAME!!! THIS ALBUM WILL NOT BE A HUGE SUCCESS FOR IT. SHE’S NO TRENDSETTER AND IT’S GONNA BE FUNNY IF SHE GETS NO AIRPLAY. MARIAH IS ABOUT TO HAVE HER 18TH NUMBER 1, HER VOICE IS ASTONISHING, AND SHE CAN GO FROM GENRE TO GENRE. ALSO MARIAH HAS HAD PLENTY OF ALBUMS THAT HAVE SOLD HUGELY ON A WW BASIS!!! WHY U THINK HAGDONNA IS SO PISSED. ONCE AGAIN SHE WILL BE OVERSHADOWED BY THE REAL QUEENS MARIAH AND JANET. JANET PISSES ON THIS BITCH DANCEWISE AND MARIAH VOCALLY!!! SHE NEEDS TO KEEP THAT SHIT IN EUROPE!!!

50percent | 2/16/2008, 8:16 pm EST

HolidayGuy’s comments are just lame. Who does he think he is? Karma.

Madges UK Lover | 2/16/2008, 8:32 pm EST

Ok – lets get a grip. No, Madonna does not have the most powerful voice in the world, but with her voice she says a lot more that Mariah Canary could. That is what keeps Madonna fresh and invigorating. Mariah does not challenge herself. Madonna does. Mariah sells sh*t loads in the US, but outside of there, she does not! Madonna sells hugely everywhere else. Hung Up being her most successful single, and she did not need the US market for it! As for this album, I will await for it to hit us, until then – I could not, nor could anyone who has not heard it possibly comment! So until then enjoy her AMAZING back catalogue

LoveMonkey | 2/16/2008, 8:50 pm EST

It says in the “post a comment” that off-topic comments will be deleted. What purpose does the comment “she works hard s*cking d*cks” serve??

KC | 2/16/2008, 8:58 pm EST

“NO OTHER FEMALE IN MUSIC HISTORY HAS STAYED ON TOP FOR THAT LONG.”

Umm..Barbra Streisand released her first album in 1963 (which was a top ten hit and Grammy winner), and has had a top ten Grammy-nominated album as recently as last year. Not one to jump in on the “this female artist vs. Madonna” catfight, because I have tremendous respect for a lot of female artists. Just thought a little correction was needed.

Javier | 2/16/2008, 8:59 pm EST

Hell yes!
It’s about time.
I love Madonna.
Like I say: She’s to gay men, in reflection of what Jesus is to the Christian faith.
:)

Jeff | 2/16/2008, 9:44 pm EST

I think what’s happened to artists like Madonna and Janet Jackson is that they’ve tried way too hard to hold on to the demographic they used to own (teens/young adults) rather than hold on to the audience they used to own (those of us who were teens/young adults in the ’80s).

They’ll work with the hottest producers, try to come up with the hottest beats, ask the hottest rappers to lay down a few bars… but the one thing they can’t change is the perception today’s young audience has: that these ’80s icons are “their parents’ artists.” Meanwhile, those parents are increasingly less tolerant of the type of music that Madonna and Janet are churning out.

The way to go would be to acknowledge that they’re no longer 20-somethings and do some music with depth and maturity that will appeal to those who consider themselves Madonna/Janet fans… and hope for the best.

After all, Mariah’s big comeback came with a ballad (albeit a modern-sounding one) that was right at home on “adult” radio stations, but was a good enough song to find an audience on top 40 radio as well.

POPLIFE | 2/16/2008, 9:50 pm EST

OK. I heard Janet’s album and it is good, not the huge blockbuster I expected, but good. Mariah’s new song SUCKS and has horrible lyrics! So this leaves Madonna to knock it out. The songs I’ve heard so far are alright, but I KNOW the best is yet to come! Go Madonna!

Crybaby | 2/16/2008, 9:58 pm EST

Madonna is not USING people to get a hit. She’s been around a long time. Justin Timberlake is new to the scene and Timbaland is a talented producer…why is she not allowed to work with indivuals that ‘wow’ her. Maybe they inspire her again. Maybe they awakened Madonna’s long lived fasination with street sounds and ghetto music sounds. That is nothing new. Is Madonna now allowed to work with the latest and greatest musicians? That isn’t fair. If Cher wanted to work with Justin or Timbaland, would that be ok?

I’m waiting for the day Madonna and Tricky work together. Art is about experiment and working with various types of people. She’s also working with people who have been inspired by her and have admired her for a long time. If I suddenly became a singer – and I was the next latest and greatest and she wanted to work with me…I’d sh*t kitten with excitement. I don’t agree with everything she’s done…but she has a right to work with new and upcoming artists…grrrr… I’d leave North America in the blink of an eye if I could…there is nothing interesting about the West.

Fonzi | 2/16/2008, 10:01 pm EST

There is a difference with artists like Cher, Streisand, Dion all who take massive amounts of time off in between the releases of album and someone like Madonna who for 25 consecutive years has released some form of music. For her to last 25 yrs at that high level of productivity is something worthy of celebration vs. someone who once a decade decides to walk into a room and sing a bunch of songs other ppl wrote for them. There is nothing wrong with giving the woman some credit.

Crybaby | 2/16/2008, 10:03 pm EST

yeah but William Orbit and Mirwais…been there done that…we have no idea who Madonna is aware of and planning to work with in the future…no one knows what is up her sleeve. Do we really know for sure if at the after parties timbaland and timberlake went up to madonna and asked her if they could work together…maybe they approached her and she happens to work on a new album…this is an opportunity for THEM, not her!!!

Michael | 2/16/2008, 10:18 pm EST

Here is what will happen. There will be a frenzied word of mouth marketing campaign that will hail this the best Madonna record ever and you will hear that she’s working with the best producers and you will hear words like “back to her roots” and “throbbing beats”. You will buy the record and you will be disappointed for a week. Then the record will grow on you and you won’t stop listening to it. After a month or two you will be super sick of the record except for one or two songs which you will play over and over on your i-pod. When that obsession dies down she will start marketing a tour with a really silly name like “Drowned World” or “Re-Invention Tour” and you will hear that she is playing all the hits. You will spend $500.00 on your ticket and sit pretty far away. If you’re close it won’t matter because she will look at you as if your weren’t there. The show will be alright but you will be able to say that you saw Madonna. Madonna is an unbelievable marketing machine who can pen a great song every now and then. Her staying power is unmatchable and her brand is gold. She’s Madonna and she’s proved herself time and again. She can fart and you will scream “I love you”! Why?
It’s Madonna.

Ferchu | 2/16/2008, 10:30 pm EST

I can’t wait, it will be so cool
She’s god!!!!

Josh | 2/16/2008, 10:39 pm EST

Looks like most of you guys agree Madonna is the “Queen” and I must say I agree as well. THe statement about Barbara is ok I guess but she has not maintained the chart sucess that Madonna has maintained for 25 years, this is what the point is, the facts are no one has ever charted like Madonna has for that amount of time.

And as far as this Mariah Carey crap is plain silly, she is nothing like Madonna on any level.

Don’t get me wrong I like some of her stuff but comparing her to Madonna is an insult at the VERY least. Madonna falls into Elvis territory and this is a legit statement.

And the statement about Carey having more #1 in America is ONLY somewhat true. Her 17 #1’s are based almost entirely on AIRPLAY and most of that was due to PAYOLA and her X-Hubbys push.

Keep in mind Madonna has never been huge in AIRPLAY which is sad yet she has managed 36 #1 selling singles in the United States on Billboards HOT 100 SALES chart a feat no woman has ever done.

So its all in how you look at it.

And if you really want the facts a look at the UNITED WORLD CHART shows no ARTIST period has had more #1 singles, not even Elvis and she ahs been out a lot less longer.

When the European Hall Of Fame was established a few years back Madonna was one of the 5 Founding members, and the ONLY woman.

Also lets be honest, 100 years from now what female artist will history note? It will be Madonna.

And another interesting fact, Madonna is the MOST pirated artist of all time, if she is not popluar then why are so many people stealing her music?

Another fact she is one of the very few artist to have a TRUE global impact did you know she is sucessful in over 150 countries?

If you look at the TOP 10 Charted albums in world history Madonna holds 9 of the 10 postions with THe Beatles Holding 1, wehat I mean by this is an album that charted at #1 in multiples countries. Her last album topped 43 countries in its 1st week which is a world record. Not many artist top more than a couple at best.
Her “True Blue” album made history in 1986 when it topped 28 countries week 1 at the time it was listed as unpresidented!

So 9 of her albums have topped more countries than any other artist, this shows Madonna’s massive global appeal.

And the last thing I like to say is to the few who think she has no talent, what are you thinking?? She is praised by every artist almost and is a music legend, NO ONE lasts 25 years in this business without talent, its childish to think any thing else.

Regardless of what you think you know, Madonna according to every producer that has ever worked with her writes and produces almost all her singles. She gets there input but does the majority of the work herself.

You won’t find any one who worked with her saying anything else, and EVERY ARTIST uses additional producers on there albums YOU will rarely find any artist who does 100% of the work themselves, certainly not Mariah Carey. They all hire fresh talent and the IN guys to work with so why bash Madonna for wanting to do the same? And the majority of the time she uses unknown producers, do you know how many people Madonna has made rich and famous because she discovered them and used them and they went on to work for others like Janet and Mariah?

Once again don’t think I am bashing Mariah or Jante or anyone else I have CD’s from just about every female artist out there but all this Madonna bashing is just stupid. She has not done a thing to anyone of us, she has given millions to help others since day 1 how many artist can say the same thing.

Madonna started out homeless in NYC she works harder than any artist out there to deliver quality music. She had a very hard life and worked like a dog to get to the top, no one disputes that.
When AIDS first came to light she was the 1st to lend her support even before people knew what to call it. She supported many close friends who had AIDS paid all there medical bills with her first royality checks. The woman was raped when she was living homeless for Gods sake and still managed to survive it and make something of herself.

She is currently supporting care for over 4000 kids in Africa, is that not worth praising in its self.

I admit when I first heard of Madonna I fell for the media bull of that she was trash and I also fell for the images that she marketed, but the truth is she is far from being trash. She is a smart business woman and I may not agree with her every move but I can admire the shear genius of it all.

If I was in her postion 25 years ago I would have done far worse to get out of it.

Madonna never claimed to be a saint but I can’t think of 1 person in this buiness who is they all sell sex.

Also when you look at the others like Britney (and I am not bashing her) I am just saying Madonna has stayed stable even married faithfully almost her entire career, she has not been a drug addict, not been in the looney bin she has stayed on track she has worked hard to raise her kids they seem well adjusted and people that in itself is to be praised can you image how HARD it is the raise two kids in the public eye as the worlds most stalked and famous person? Heck man its hard to do what she has done for us middle class folks is it not??

Oh and last but not least what is this really silly crap about her age?? That is about the most offensive thing I have ever read.

Why bash Madonna for wanting to keep on working at 49? No one seems to care about Barbara, Cher, Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, Aretha Franklin and the list goes on and on, some of which are WAY older than Madonna but all are at 40 way over are they not??

and TELL me people name one of them who can put on a concert like Madonna I hurt just watching her don’t you guys? I am only 23 and I am telling you I could never pull off what she does.

And really for Gods sake she looks like she is 30 or less anyways, but I can’t figure out why it matters only for Madonna and no one else?

I think no I know Madonna deserves to be honored and respected and admired she is every bit the American dream, she is self made and paved the way for every female artist who has followed her she made her way in a mans world and no one disputes the music industry before Madonna was a mans world even Tina Turner stated that Madonna changed the way the game is played and credited Madonna for giving woman the respect and power they deserved. Since Madonna women have gained not only in sales but gained the power to control there careers.

Madonna will be remembered for that, some day some female might out sell Madonna (God forbid) But sales don’t matter its the culturalimpact Madonna made that matters and the great music that she continues to make, its amazing how great her albums still are, the last one was one of the best albums I have ever heard and it gave her her biggest selling single of her entire career, pretty good for being in the business 25 years don’t you think?

And if you look at the world chart her 3 biggest hits have all been since 2000, so its clear she is not the has been some want us to think.

Long Live THe Queen!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! HAHAHAHAHHA sad old lady who dont wanna be “the old one”.. Madonna, quit before people do it for you.
yes madonna opened the door for Britney but you know what they say.. The student won over the teacher;)

Why does Mariahs fans always raid posts about Madonna?

First of all Mariah’s hits are based off AIRPLAY on the US Hot 100 most of which is paid for PAYOLA any one??

And every one of her songs sound alike? YOU call that talent?

I have a couple of her CD”s so don’t go there lambs, but to say the woman has more hits than Madonna who has sold double the single salmost triple more than Mariah blows my mind. If you think #1 singles based on massive paid radio play is a feat then your childish lambs.

Madonna has had according to Billboard 36 #1 SELLING singles and guys 4 of them were from her last album, No female artist comes close, and have we forgotten that CLEAR CHANNEL banned Madonna on there stations so the fact that Madonna has not impacted the HOT 100 since American Life is not because no one wants to hear her is it..

Then lambs ONE look at the World Chart puts every artist male or female to shame, not only does Madonna have far more #1 singles than any one including Elvis and The Beatles she has more #1’s EVERY DECADE she has been out including the 90’s when Mariah was banging that old man to get hits.

And Janet? Please like Mariah she is not in the same catagory as Madonna.. And before the Janet fans go there I have 3 or 4 of her albums and I rather hear her any day over Mariah at least Janet takes a risk here and there. I heard Janets new single and like Mariahs I think it sucks sadly. But the beat is good so I give it that.

Whats really funny in this Madonna-Mariah crap is that old Mariah herself praised Madonna as a LEGEND and an ICON, so clearly she likes her and Madonna wrote a song for Mariah that she recorded for her last album (sadly the direction of the album changed and it was not used but that shows Madonna likes Mariah) BUT some of you put to much faith in internet bull and that is the saddest thing of all.

And last why is Madonna being called a sell out? Name 1 of these artist who don’t work with hot producers?

Madonna may add R&B to her new cd but Madonna started out in R&B so whats the big deal?
Is it because she changes her sound with every album? Unlike the rest who keep recycling the same old crap?

And to the one who said BedTime Stories flopped ? You drunk? It gave her a massive #1 single “Take A Bow” not to mention 4 other hit singles and moved millions all over the world.

Madonna have never had a true flop unlike Janet and Mariah, even her worst selling album “American Life” went to #1 in more countries than Mariahs last album and the 1st single spent 4 weeks at #1 and had 7 #1 selling maxi-singles in the United States and 5 #1 selling singles on the HOT 100 Sales Chart and moved around 9 million copies globally according the the IFPI which tracks sales in over 150 countries. How is 9 million copies a flop? YES in the USA it as a CD flopped based on Madonna’s normal sales but globally it was the 3rd best selling album in 2003, and guys that is not a flop!

Oh almost forgot to the idiot who said MADONNA abanded the US, based on what?
She married a brit and moved to be with him, that is not abandoning America she made a sacrifice for her marraige he wanted to stay in London Madonna owns multiple properties here and to this day says NEW YORK is the place she loves the most.

Alot of artists live in Europe funny how no one says that crap about them , Tina lives in Londa she a traitor too?

Where you live does not matter Madonna spends alot of time in the USA and has never skipped the USA on her tours or promotional agenda.

So don’t be stupid.

dd | 2/16/2008, 11:27 pm EST

Madonna worked with Nile Rodgers, Babyface, David Foster, Rick Knowles, and Dallas Austin after they were established hitmakers. Her music with them was successful. Many other older artists work with younger producers because it’s a good marketing move. Bruce Springsteen even hooked up with Glenn O’Brien and nobody accused him of “selling out.” It’s okay to criticize Madonna but why single her out on something that others have done for a long time. At least listen to the music before you judge it. “4 Minutes To Save The World,” from what I heard, is excellent.

Karen | 2/16/2008, 11:30 pm EST

OMG that Britney comment from UM is just about the most dumb thing I have read all day. Britney worships Madonna, she has copied Madonna her entire career. Your taking 1 line from a Madonna song and tring to make us think Madonna is coping Britney? LOL Give me a break man.

I could spend all day bashing Britney but whats the point?

I love Madonna she is by far on every level a better artist than Britney.

And get off th eold lady crap Madonna runs circles around Britney who by the way is not a spring chicken anymore is she? She has 2 kids 3 husbands and lord knows what else.

Michael Higginbotham | 2/16/2008, 11:39 pm EST

I can’t wait for the new album/single/video to come out. I already know its gonna be a hit, because she’s working with some of the best producers of this genre, as opposed to american life. but that’s what Madge does best-take risks. and for all u haters saying that she’s too old to be doing this style of music should no this-age is nothin but a number. madonna does as she pleases and does it well.

Parker | 2/16/2008, 11:57 pm EST

I am always interested in checking out what Madonna does next… the funny thing is, I am always pleased. Like it or not, she is talented…just look at who she has manage to outlast. Think about it!

LOLA | 2/16/2008, 11:59 pm EST

Madonna is God ~ we all know it. Devil’s just trying to bring her down.

Anonymous | 2/17/2008, 12:04 am EST

Actually Jody Watley was called “the black Madonna” in 1987 but she had the same style dating back to 1980 when she was in the R&B group Shalamar before there was even a Madonna (do your homework). In terms of people giving Madonna all this credit for female sexuality–Josephine Baker was causing internantional controversy decades before Madonna. All I am saying is that Madonna will never be considered a true artist just an opportunist and a person who slept their way to the top–that is nothing to be proud of. In the meantime, for those who say Mariah can’t sell internationally–Music Box sold 24 million copies worldwide, Daydream did 21 million copies worldwide and Emancipation has sold 14 (not 12 million) million not bad considering 5 million of those were sold in U.S. so obviously the other 9 million were overseas. I like how Madonna like to twist truth or knock Mariah for accomplishments Madonna will never achieve. The two of them have been successful superstars in their own right and both have had flops–Mariah had 2 flop albums and a flop movie and Madonna has had 4 flop albums and countless flop movies so there you have it they both have had ups & downs–I am just saying Madonna new “wannabe ghetto and black” stuff is not going to work it never has and it never will.

MADRYE | 2/17/2008, 12:28 am EST

Can she be any more pathetic? Justin & Timbo are so 2 years ago! She is really crawling into the cracks to find a hit. Sad, old Madonna, when will you realize… you are dead but just to stupid to lay down!

Beluga Bill | 2/17/2008, 12:47 am EST

Madonna’s albums always sound fishy in text… but then you finally get to hear the record and you realize all over again how fantastically capable she is of making history. I’m dancing in boots, if you will.

Adam | 2/17/2008, 1:18 am EST

Madonna is a legacy that will continue on and on, no matter what she does. She is a one and only. Like Marilyn, Elvis, Sinatra, she will never fade away.

Adam | 2/17/2008, 1:26 am EST

Oh and one more thing. Anonmous, u know, the idiot that made the long dragged out comment trying to denounce Madonna a few before mine? Well they’re exactly that, an Idiot!

ADAM | 2/17/2008, 1:32 am EST

While the rest of the world, admires madonna… you can see americans disagree. how typical… its always been the world vs. the u.s. – these people are just clueless about everything, no wonder the whole world thinks they’re delusional.

southcalif. | 2/17/2008, 1:58 am EST

MADONNA IS MADONNA, BRITNEY NOR PAULINA RUBIO WILL EVER BE HER. MADONNA FOR 25+ YEARS HAS BROUGHT OUT THE BEST IN MUSIC TRYING TO GIVE WOMEN AND GIRLS A LITTLE BIT MORE FREEDOM AND WON! BRITNEY IS JUST MAKING A FOOL OF HERSELF TRYING TO BE PROVACOTIVE AND A HEADLINER LIKE MADONNA WAS BUT IS BEING STUPID IN THE WAY SHE IS DOING IT. BRITNEY GROW UP U ARE NOT MADONNA NOR WILL U EVER SELL LIKE HER NOR GROW MORE FAMOUS THAN HER.

wawawewo | 2/17/2008, 2:17 am EST

lets look to see Britney today and Madonna today.. we can only laugh our asses off at Britney. Secondly Madonna is way far ahead in sales and hits then both Mooriah and Janet. Madonna is a living legend and the Queen of Pop

anthony | 2/17/2008, 2:47 am EST

Our parents had the Beattles, Elvis, & Marylin. We have Madonna. What other present artist can be compared like this? A true artist she is. In the 80’s + 90’s she pushed the sexual envelope. Now she pushes sonic boundaries. Even long after she disappears, i don’t think that her music can be stopped!

#1Fan60yr old | 2/17/2008, 3:48 am EST

Well after reading so many post tn this form.I’m amazed at the positive and negative on a lady that works so hard to bring so much joy to the world thru her music. All people should look beyond her music, and look at the woman and know what is real. Other (stars) make their wealth and live lavishly on there fame. While Madonna and this is in her words I qoute ” THE MORE MONEY I MAKE THE MORE MONEY I CAN GIVE”.This woman could have easily went away in her own life. But she decided to stay and create new and fresh music to people.who love what she has to offer so she can Give to people who eat dirt for every meal every day. NO ONE ON THIS PLANT SHOULD GO HUNGERY, Thank you Madonna for being born during my generation so I could know a beautiful human being. ( jesus brought love to the world and so does MADONNA)..

“THe statement about Barbara is ok I guess but she has not maintained the chart sucess that Madonna has maintained for 25 years, this is what the point is, the facts are no one has ever charted like Madonna has for that amount of time.”

Perhaps you need to do better research then. Barbra’s first top ten album was in 1963, and her last #1 album was in 1997 (that’s 34 years right there). Her last 5 albums since 1999 have debuted in the top 10 (making that 29 top 10 albums she has had), and have gone gold and/or platinum. Her 2006 concert tour was one of the most successful tours of that year. When she returned to the stage back in 94, that tour was also very successful, and one of the most talked about back then (and that’s after 30 years of being in the business). You can subtract Barbra’s downtime (which isn’t much), and she’d still have Madonna beat in terms of longevity.

I’m not asking anyone to like Barbra, and I could care less if you don’t. I’m a fan of Madonna as well, and I think her accomplishments are impressive as well. She may be more famous internationally, and may have racked up more hits (although Barbra has never really been a singles artist, despite an impressive top 40 singles chart run in 70s and early 80s), but if you’re going to talk about longevity, give credit where credit is due.

“Why does Mariahs fans always raid posts about Madonna?”

Scroll down, sister…the first Mariah vs. Madonna comment was made by a Madonna fan. You know it was bound to create a reaction.

Tomislav | 2/17/2008, 5:54 am EST

Ok, I also don’t get that about Mariah fans. Ok she is big in the US who cares it is nat the world, with all that airplay support who wouldn’t be. Madonna was always the international star who pushed the buttons Mariah just sang then went crazy.

John | 2/17/2008, 8:09 am EST

The facts speak for themselves. Madonna is a global icon and a living legend. She is known worldwide, people are dancing to her music all over the world.

She has been written off so many times and has always proved her critics wrong. Where are her rivals? Where have they all gone. Have you ever seen her in concert? Absolutely AMAZING! She really puts out for her fans.
This could be the biggest record of her spectacular 25 year career.
Don’t ever stop dancing, provocing and entertaining us Madonna. We love you!
Long live the queen of the dancefloor!!

anagram | 2/17/2008, 9:57 am EST

Image wise;
Madonna = Chameleon Queen
Janet = Nice Trash
Mariah = Slutty slut

LOL…

US airways sucks… it’s boring, uneventful, unexciting. Always the same old shit sound, like Mariah’s songs. At least Janet’s still have a light punch. Madonna’s songs transient time people. Listen to Holiday then and Holiday now (Re-Invention Tour), it still sounds fresh! Try singing Mariah’s Dreamlover now, it sounds old trash. At least Janet’s Rhythem Nation can still kick some ass.

If you follow Madonna’s career, she never takes fame for granted, always pushing herself to be stronger, positive, different. She has grown from white trash to pure divine (with a brain and a great sense of humour to match).

Madonna IS every pop stars’ pop star. Who doesn’t want to work with her and learn a thing or two?

Rukydee | 2/17/2008, 10:06 am EST

i think madonna does not really care about sales of cds these days, her major income is through touring,i think its a shame for the record company of mariah to regard her as the most successful female artist, because that title includes so many things among which mariah has not even touched, let me mention the commonest ones:
1)Her tours have been big disappointments both financially and artistically

2)She has failed to impact the UK charts and also global charts.

3)She’s so obsest with charts which i find so unartistic for a 40 year old artist.

Madonna is in a different world..so debators END OF STORY

… so far I’ve heard “Candy Shop”, “4 minutes” and “The beat goes on”… out of the three I’d say that my favorite one is “The beat…” … my friend (BIG TIME Madonna’s fan) said he felt like “Candy shop” could essentially be a Britney reject… but I still liked it… just waiting ’till I can hear it on CD, with a better sound quality… ANYWAY: Best female ARTIST ever… go girl

OMG! Madonna is so big and Mariah is so vulgar.

Madonna doesn’t give a shit about Carey.
It must be hard for these artists to always live in the shadow.

DalBert | 2/17/2008, 10:42 am EST

Hey guys!!! Stop the bad coments about Madonna, let me remember that this year Madonna go to the Hall of Fame wich for now all Madonna’s fans have to focus on it, rigth now we are expecting the most susesfull record of this year!!!! MARIAH & BARBRA WE love you but no one has the power that the Queen of the mainstreem and Queen of POP has and there is only one MADONNA

daren | 2/17/2008, 11:40 am EST

Instead of pitting one female artist againt another I think we should respect the fact that Mariah, Madonna, and Janet are still here doing what they do despite all their critics. There is so much sexism in the record industry, especially when it comes to age. Mariah and Madonna may be hitting 50 soon but that doesn’t mean they should sit at home on a couch and eat bon-bons while watching “Oprah.” Support ALL female entertainers.

Gage Kristofer | 2/17/2008, 12:04 pm EST

IM A BIG MADONNA FAN, BUT SHES SELLING OUT WITH THIS CD. SHE WONT MAKE THE RADIO UNLESS SHE HAS JUSTIN AND TIMBALAND BEHIND HER. DANCE IS MAKING A COMEBACK, AND NOW SHE GOING TO HIP HOP? OUCH

iverge | 2/17/2008, 12:30 pm EST

25 years later and what do we see…

Mariah Carey… chasing butterflies
Michael Jackson… sleeping with boys
George Michael… cruising public toilets
Whitney Houston… crack is wack
Cindy Lauper… still singing her 1 hit
Janet Jackson… barely on the radar

MADONNA… STILL ON TOP…TRUE MUSIC & FASHION ICON.

I agree with Daren. There are so many talented female artists out there, yet people always seem to want to pit female artists against each other, whether it’s Mariah vs. Whitney, Christina vs. Britney, Madonna vs Everyone. It’s like people seem to think if they like this one female artist, they can’t like any other female artist. You don’t see people doing that with male artists. Nowhere in the Rolling Stone article was there even a mention of Mariah Carey, so why even bring her up? Let Mariah, Britney, Celine, Barbra, and Madonna enjoy the success that they have had, because all them have had astounding success in their careers and have proven they hang with the big boys.

mister jones | 2/17/2008, 1:33 pm EST

I have always enjoyed Madonna’s and Janet’s high-calibre entertainment. Granted , neither is a gifted vocalist but the sum of all their other talents ( dancing, prancing, great videos and stage shows) has always made up for it and then some. It is unrealistic to expect drastic changes in style to come off as brilliant each time out. Madonna has been more experimental than any other with varying degrees of success/cred but at least she’s ventured where others have dared not go. Janet has the most impressive high-octane choreography by far, which is a big part of why I will always go to her concerts. Mariah, outsings both of them by a long shot and therefore has her own “thang” that M&J can’t touch. Mariah’s stage show is, to say the least, not her strength.
But, ya know what? I am a concert whore and will always go to see JJ and Madge burn it up . Mariah impressed the hell out of when I went to see her show last tour , but “only” in the vocal sense, which was amazing.
Love and worship these ladies and their age-inappropriateness, people!
The rich need to get richer! LOL

Jamie | 2/17/2008, 1:36 pm EST

Isla

You idiot. Mariah’s hits aren’t based off of payola. If you look at the list of the many payola using artists, Mariah’s name is not even present. But guess who’s name did made the list? MADONNA’S. Warner Bros used pay for play for her shit and it still bombed in the US! So stfu about Mariah using payola, because it is simply not true. Mariah has 17 # hits because her music is GOOD. If you like the music, then you’ll buy it. And so what if some of her hits are based off of airplay. That is actually a really good thing. If radio is spinning your shit, then that gives the general public time to react to it.

Don’t get mad just because Mariah is accepted on US radio, and they’re hardly ever willing to give Madonna’s irrelevant garbage any spins. Unless her record company is paying of course. Lol. At least Mariah didn’t become a sell out, and is just jumping on the bandwagon to get a hit, and sell some records.

Mariah’s TMB is very close to reaching 40 million impressions. I guarantee you that Madonna’s new material won’t even come close. Mariah’s new album is gonna crush Madonna’s in the US. Who cares if she has better sales internationally.

Jamie | 2/17/2008, 1:52 pm EST

Dan,

Exactly. The Madonna fans constantly state how she’s the “Queen”, completely reinvents herself, and doesn’t do the same old crap like Mariah. And that she whoops Mariah’s ass internationally. Yet they just can’t keep Mariah’s name out of it, when it comes down to their irrelevant idol. That’s because Madonna’s fans are threatened. Especially since they have to compare apples to oranges. One is an entertainer and the other is a vocalist. One has more musical talent than the other and of course that is Mariah.

Madonna fans do the same shit each time. They’re constantly on the Madge vs. Mariah shit. They are scared of Mariah and of course can’t admit it. No matter what they say about her. Mariah is the one with the REAL talent anyway. And again about payola, take a look in the mirror, dumbasses. Madonna’s label Warner Bros have used pay for play for her garbage, and it still BOMBED! So Madonna fans are in NO room to talk about Mariah supposedly using payola, when they have no facts to prove their bogus statements!

I do not understand why every time there is an article about Madonna, Mariah will come up in the comments, and vice versa. Not to mention Janet, though it always seems to be more about MC.

To me, why all the arguing? They are both legendary in their own right at this point, and they are completely different types of artists.

Madonna and Mariah have both broken many records, and both have had some projects that were less than successful. So what. It is a matter of opinion who is “better” and totally depends on your taste in music.

Also, can we stop all the claims about worldwide sales? Billboard has written numerous times that they do not do an official worldwide tabulation. So any claim is no more than a rough estimate.

i never got Carey, an why she’s stll goin, like a zillion other’s all doing the same safe thing, there is no real talent or kindness about her, for all her money she dressess like a slut, whereas Madonna will continue to make amazing music which reaches peoples hearts and has realness, I love that she adopted David, has raised millions for charity, is writing about the terrible problems in the world, is a major voice for gay & lesbians, vocal about politics, looks fantastic, does what she wants, and as a woman in pop, she has remained at the top, now can she please come to Ireland in her next tour… anto

jason | 2/17/2008, 3:29 pm EST

Madonna will fail miserably this time, well at least hopefully.

Using Justin and Timbland is just outright pathetic. She saw how Nelly found a new level of popularity with timbo, so did justin and now Madonna is trying really hard to get a US hit. Pathetic.

Madonna is not a legend, only to blinded fans LOL

Again, why is Madonna the one who has feud with the most of the divas? Right, because her attitude reaks. She is a talentless whore who uses other people

And Guys, one last thing, I am 29 years of age now… and in twenty years I’ll be 49. I would not like to retire just because I am about to hit 50… for fuck sake!!!!

Madonna may be desperate but at least she’s never had to use A frog faced idiot like Roger Friedman from Fox News to hype up all her projects, like Moooriah does. Mariah Carey is a has-been and judging by the poor callout research on her latest single, she should just try and kill herself again.

Spy | 2/17/2008, 7:10 pm EST

Interesting that Bjork didn’t cop the same flack for collaborating with Timbaland on her latest album.

I admit I did think Madonna was trying to get a hit by collaborating with Timbaland, Timberlake and Williams, but perhaps she just wants to make good music with some people who’s producing she likes.

Of course she wants to be popular and famous – she’s an entertainer and that’s what her role is. If she wants to make hits, fair enough. I am sick of everyone hiring Timbaland and Williams though.

I’d personally like to see her give William Orbit another call, but I guess she’s not into repeating herself.

In response to John S | 2/17/2008, 7:17 pm EST

What EXACTLY does Madonna’s, in your words, desperation, have to do with Mariah? It doesn’t seem like you are a fan of either one. Why the hell are you here posting? That is so sad!

That said, while I am not privy to call out research, I do have access to numbers. Touch My Body is currently EXPLODING in airplay right out of the box. So, say what you will. Numbers can’t be disputed.

THANK GOD WE HAVE MADONNA!! I LOVE her, haters take a hike, she’s REAL, she’s RELEVANT and her MUSIC and LONGEVITY is history in the making! You know it, I know it, enough said.

Yeah, I have to agree with a lot of these statements. I have loved Madonna’s music for the past 25 years and really liked a few hits from her last CD, “COTDF”. I think “Hung Up’ was a stand out hit for her and probably the best from her of of the past 10-15 years; arguably the best since Vogue.

But I have to say, that I am less eager for the new album with her collaborating with timberland and timberlake; who I cannot stand. I think Madonna does best sticking with what she does well with; pop and dance music. She is and has never been a R&B singer and has never seemed to cross over to the rhythmic or black audiences she has tried to reach with previous attempts. Why 25 years later start now? Who gives a fuck? Who cares what 99.99 percent of popular radio stations are playing which is currently is hip hop, young black music. Times have changed and she has never been one to really care until now? She still sells unbelievably well in Europe and other countries and still is a cash cow for her record label regardless of how well she does here?

Anyways, I think this album will do well granted, but I am less excited as I have been about previous albums of hers.

Connova | 2/17/2008, 10:30 pm EST

Madonna rocks. This is a fact, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Ryan | 2/17/2008, 10:35 pm EST

“Side Note”

The only album that rocked or I should say Vibed was Erotica that you could say had a lot of hip hob and R&B flavor added to it. Erotica 8.5/10

Bedtime stories “OVERALL” was very bland despite a few sugar flakes added in. Bedtime Stores 6.5/10

Don’t get me started on Madonna and all that kaballah crap

Ryan-

I appreciate your sentiments, but Madonna WAS considered an R&B singer when she started out People were surprised when they found out she was white. Her first album IS considered and R&B album. Then, she made Bedtime Stories which was a pretty big success in the US at least. That was considered R&B. So, she is – in no way at all – jumping on any R&B bandwagon.

Gigi | 2/18/2008, 2:18 am EST

Madonna’s album is the only one I ‘m looking forward to in 2008.

I like Mariah’s remixes at times but I don’t enjoy her as a person. For someone who says she’s half black the bitch can’t move for shit. Also Mariah looked like a piggy in a blanket on her last whore tour. And I’ve seen better show production in some drag show here in Atlanta. Bitch sit your ass down!

Madonna will always put her own touch no matter who she works with. I’m sure T&J learned a thing or two working with Madonna.

Oh and the reason radio won’t play her music is because she spoke out against BUSH with her American Life video so Clear Channel who owns 80% of US Radio and who’s owner is Republican decided to boycott radio play because he labeled Madonna as Anti-American.

Madonna will always keep pushing the envelope artistically as a gay man I owe Madonna a lot of thanks for embracing and supporting the gay community.

Mr. Tim | 2/18/2008, 2:22 am EST

I like Madonnna, but news of a new album from her is snooze-inspring.

Adele
Duffy
Kate Nash
Sharon Jones

Excuse me, who’s Mariah?

JohnC | 2/18/2008, 12:50 pm EST

I find it pretty sad that Madonna fans always find it necessary to put Mariah down in order to make Madge look better. Sorry- it isn’t working. For one, Mariah’s money winner is her voice. It is her God given talent. Madonna’s moneymaker is how she sells herself to her fans and public, because even her most ardent fans must admit she is not the best singer. Anyone can learn to be like Madonna. She doesn’t have any unique talents. There are much better dancers than her (Janet,) much better singers (too long a list,) much better singing actresses (again, too long a list.) She is just an incredibly smart woman with a knack for success. Mariah, on the other hand, is an incredibly gifted vocalist, songwriter, producer, and a very smart woman also with a knack for success. Yeah she had her Glitter debacle, but you can’t expect someone to be perfect all the time. She more than made up for it with Mimi, and will more than make up for it again when her new album comes out. Her new single is getting rave reviews and after only a few hours of airplay it charted on Billboard. So give it a rest, Madonna worshipers- Mariah is NOT fat, she is NOT old (she’s only 37,) she is definitely NOT talentless, and she will DEFINITELY steal the spotlight again from Madonna when she puts her new album. Madonna is just trying this new sound because it’s what’s in. Mariah has been doing hip hop R&B for over a decade. Madonna can take a lesson or two from MC in this genre.

dd | 2/18/2008, 1:18 pm EST

Sorry, but Mariah can’t sing if her life depended on it and many critics agree. She’s not a singer; she’s a human dog whistle. While Madonna may not be a “genius” in any category, she is certainly adequate. Madonna also never had to hire a gossip columnist to give her good buzz and criticize her competition.

Jay | 2/18/2008, 2:46 pm EST

Lets not kid ourselves here, this forth coming effort may have her return back to her earlier beginings with an r’b sound but lets face it; this album will have Madonna all over it. She won’t release a spin off of whats now-theres going to be a hitch to it. Shes just not that simple at this stage in her game. I think she will own the next coming year in the industry. Like her or hate her this will be a very BIG year for Madonna. 25 years and she hasn’t stopped, why do the haters even bother anymore? She never listened before and the chances are even more she never will either! This will be a huge album like it or not.

Andrew | 2/18/2008, 3:51 pm EST

JohnC YOUR such a FOOL!!!!
First of all Madonna fans did not start this CRAP! They started a WEBSITE when Madonna released her last album bashing MADONNA and trying to get people NOT to buy her albim THIS WAS IN THE NEWS and POSTED in an article on BILLBOARD! ITs a FACT! Something you don’t seem to care about.

Madonna herself likes Mariah and Mariah must like her to call her a legend and an ICON.

Mariah will get a ton of ariplay as usual so YES she will chart better on the HOT 100 which is driven by AIRPLAY most of it PAYOLA so its NO big deal to have FAKE hots instead of singles that actually sell. And yes I know some of Mariahs do sell but almost all her #1 singles in the USA where due to AIRPLAY NOT SALES!

I think Mariah has a good voice and SO does MADONNA>

Madonna will rule the WORLD CHART as she has always done, and if CLEARCHANNEL still has her banned I expect low sales in the USA maybe 2 million but face it that is great when no one is playing your music, but reality is Madonna will go straight to #1 in 40(+) countries and Mariah will hit #1 in the USA maybe the UK only, her last album only topped the USA chart!

Madonna will sell more singles and albums than mariah globally but she will beat Madonna maybe in the USA by buying all that AIRPLAY which does sell albums!
And I do agree Mariah is not OLD but neither is MADONNA!

MADONNA is also a gifted song write , PRODUCER and vocalist proven by her 25 years of being the top female vocalist in the entire world!
She is also the most famous person on this planet!

And say what ever you want Madonna has a excellent voice based on the posts here the majority rather listen to Madonna than Mariah!

And to say there are better performers (vocalist, dancers ) etc than Madonna is just plain rediculous if this is true then why do people pay RECORD amounts to go to Madonna’s SELL OUT shows??

Janet lips sings her shows, Mariah stands there like an darn fool, Madonna can dance just as good if not better than Janet and she actually SINGS LIVE while doing it , that is a FEAT!

Madonna has never had a movie that did not make a profit according to EW Madonna has grossed around 2 billion in film revenues that is a lot of cash is it not?

Mariahs last tour grossed less than what Madonna grossed in NYC alone! Now how sad is that??

Israell Isaac | 2/18/2008, 4:44 pm EST

In which way is Mariah a better songwriter??? Madonna wrote MOST of her first album and co-wrote MOST of second one. From the third studio album she would always co-write everything. Madonna’s lyrics are original and innovative. They don’t ONLY focus on love. They also deal with SPIRITUALITY, MYSTICISM and other topics as well.

Have you ever heard her version of Love Don’t Live Here Anymore? She shot a music video for it. Check it out BEFORE criticizing her vocals. Do you know how hard it is to sing & dance at once??? Celine Dion & Mariah Carey never danced and sang at the same time Madonna would LIVE for countless songs in concert. The Who’s That Girl Tour was COMPLETELY LIVE, very much energetic. It took strenght to keep going like this for two hours every night. Her vocals on the Drowned World and Confessions Tour were just amazing and LIVE.

Please check out her Sorry music video. She included such a yoga move in her choreography. She would place one of her feet behind her head. She would do it every night on her Confessions Tour as well, the HIGHEST GROSSING TOUR EVER for a female artist in History! Now, that’s a feat no one else exploited.

If Madonna is just a smart business woman with no exceptional TALENT, why didn’t all those other females copy and top her? Many thought Cyndi Lauper would reign but Madonna did and still does. Some thought Paula Abdul and Debbie Gibson would take over but di they??? Get your facts straight before trying to trash Mrs. Ritchie. Undaztood? I like all of those other females alright. I’m just telling you the truth. She IS the undisputed Queen Of Pop. Many high-profile magazines and papers, such as Q and Daily Mail constantly refer to her as such. Just admit and accept it. There was Marilyn Monroe. Now, there is Madonna, a living legend, a woman’s worth.

Patrick | 2/18/2008, 6:05 pm EST

People will laugh at her…kids don’t like her, she’s TOO OLD for this kiddie crap.

DMWN | 2/18/2008, 6:13 pm EST

I would have been perfectly content to come here and just talk about Madonna, but since you vapid lambs decided to infest the place like roaches, I’ll say this…six words describe Mariah Carey: Boring…Corny…Stuck-Up…Fake…Stu pid…Insane.

The bitch is not original, or special. She was created – CREATED – by Tommy Motolla for the sole purpose of being Sony Music’s answer to Whitney Houston. Then to cement her career, she began an affair with Tommy (while he was still married to his first wife) and later married the old coot. When she later left the guidance of Tommy, her career instantly fell apart. It wasn’t until L.A. Reid was appointed head of Island Def Jam and made Mariah his pet project (using his, ahem, “connections” to get her back on the radio) that she got her career back. So what does that say? That she doesn’t have the foresight to handle her own shit and basically needs a “daddy” to tell her what to do and make everything alright. She’s not intelligent, creative, or instinctual enough to be her own person. Okay, fine…she has a good singing voice (although its been waning for a decade), but she has absolutely nothing to say. Go to any Baptist Church in America and you can pluck out BETTER singers than Mariah from the choir. She’s trite. After 18 years since her debut, to this day Mariah still simply cannot exist without being some powerful record guys protege. And lets not forget how many times this dingbat has been accused of/sued for stealing and/or plagiarizing music from other artists and songwriters. The most shameful example being her song “Emotions,” which blatantly hijacked the music from an act CALLED ‘The Emotion’ on their superior “The Best of My Love.”

In addition to that, the way she blatantly exploits her biracial heritage to shamelessly play the fence between black and white, and pander herself to both audiences is tacky. She has no soul or authenticity. She’s a puppet and a tool. And dear God, don’t let her go off her meds…we saw what happened the last time her chemical imbalance flared up. The fruitcake went to stripping in front of twelve years on MTV and then had to be locked in a padded room, until doctors figured out how what level dosage of Prozac to put her on. In the end, maybe I was wrong…maybe she IS original. She’s the original Amy Winehouse/Britney Spears – going nuts on camera.

Now as far as comparisons to Madonna go…

* Madonna generates more revenue than Mariah.
* Madonna has more awards (including more Grammy’s) than Mariah (is she still begging for a MTV VMA? lol).
* Forbes estimates that Madonna is 200 million dollars richer than Mariah. TWO HUNDRED MILLION! LOL!
* Madonna has a MUCH larger recording contract (120 million from Live Nation vs. the 20 million Mariah got from IDJ)
* Mariah may be a bigger/more likely US seller, but worldwide Madonna has her in total cumulative album sales.
* Madonna’s tours (where artists make the REAL money) crush hers. Mariah regularly cancels shows for poor attendance.
* While Madonna was in charge of Maverick Records, it became the most successful vanity label in history…by contrast, Mariah has had 2 vanity labels (Crave and MonarC) quickly shut down on her.
* Madonna, unlike Mariah, has never been dropped (oh, excuse me, “paid to leave”) from a label.

So in the end, what does Mariah have…a deteriorating voice, a bossman telling her what to do and how to do it…plus a handful of more bought-and-paid-for domestic chart toppers…big whoop. In a climate where acts like Flo Rida are topping the charts for record-breaking stints, is that really a big deal? Madonna may not have as many Hot 100 chart toppers as Mariah, but at least all twelve of her U.S. #1’s got there honestly; without employing shameless ploys…like retailing them for two quarters, and giving away free downloads to fan club members to get them to chart higher.

Madonna is the bigger, wealthier and more accomplished superstar/cultural icon.
Mariah is just a Jeopardy question waiting to happen.

“Which artists has had the most Hot 100 Chart Toppers? Is it the Beatles…? Elvis…? Paula Abdul…? Milli Vanilli…? Mariah Carey…?”

And most probably wouldn’t even guess her.

WOW. I can’t believe how much energy is put into all this.I LOVE female singers period.Madonna’s album is gonna be fire as is Mariah’s and Janet’s. At this point they really don’t have to prove anything to anyone ever again.I am huge fans of both Madonna and Mariah and I have to say I don’t love them both the same. For you Madonna only fans so what if you think Mariah only does the same thing over and over(which is news to me) you don’t like her so it shouldn’t matter anyway.Oh and as far sas record sells and all that crap none of us are getting paid to research it so get over it. These diva wars a soooo childish. Grow Up!!!!

Rye-Rye | 2/19/2008, 12:29 am EST

OMFG!! This crap is crazy! Madonna and Mariah are two different singers/celebrity. It’s like comparing raisin bran to lucky charms. What ever happened to the days where you listened to who you like? You hear a song that rocks so you crank it, and it didn’t matter who the h*ll sang it. The new Madonna album will rock. Is R&B everyone’s preference? No. I live in a state where the only Madonna they play is on the oldies station or adult contemporary. Most people listen to country, rock, or hardcore rap in Virginia. I’m appreciative that they still sell her albums here! LOL! I think it’s refreshing to hear Madonna branching out. Maybe she has dipped in the R&B cash cow (repeatedly) in the past. This time around she has more experience in her bag, and can probably rock something else out of the old cow. On the positive side, she has Timbaland (who is pretty phenomenal) helping her out. Just appreciate what the album will be. I keep reading great responses about it. Even this article gives the album it’s props. Although, I did hear the rumor about her making a crap album to give Warner Bros. the big ole’ F U!!! I don’t think Madonna would f*ck her fans over. She loves us. So SHUT THE FRONT DOORS, and go buy the damn album. She’s an icon. She has outlasted everybody. Give Madonna a break.

Chav | 2/19/2008, 2:15 am EST

I like Madonna, but to me, I always thought she was a little overrated. Her music is fun to listen to, but that’s pretty much it; she’s just glorified ear candy. Her lyrics don’t challenge me emotionally or intellectually, her voice doesn’t move me inside. It’s just kind of there. For me, there’s a time and place to listen to Madonna, but she also bores me real quick. I respect her, anyway.

Unconditional Madonna fan | 2/19/2008, 5:06 am EST

I’m so sick of the whiners complaining about the purported “style” of Madonna’s new CD when they haven’t even heard it yet.

If an artist ventures outside of their comfort zone, they get accused of “selling out” (Nelly Furtado anyone?) and I think that’s total bullshit. Yet if they stay within that comfort zone, others accuse them of being afraid to “take risks.”

NEWSFLASH you fuckwits: an artist isn’t “selling out” simply because they do something that defies the box some of so-called “fans” have decided to put them in for their own comfort level. When did Madonna ever promise anyone that she’d forever always make dance/techno/electro/euro pop? I expect Madonna to do what makes her happy – and if she wants to venture into hip hop/R&B this time around, then fucking more power to her! I don’t expect her to listen to two-faced, fickle “fans” who think they own her or know what’s best for her art. Either buy the album, or not. But you have no say in what direction SHE decides to take HER music in. All you can do is not buy it. Madonna will make money anyway.

alysa | 2/19/2008, 8:12 am EST

I’m not into Madonna, but I always thought she was underrated. I think she has a beautiful – if not powerful – voice. It’s just the songs that she sings are so awful. I liked her doing the EVITA stuff.

CK | 2/19/2008, 8:56 am EST

“Madonna may not have as many Hot 100 chart toppers as Mariah, but at least all twelve of her U.S. #1’s got there honestly; without employing shameless ploys.”

Are you kidding? Madonna wouldn’t have had the career she’s had if she weren’t constantly trying to be controversial and pushing people’s buttons. Nearly every album she’s came out with was preceded by some sort of calculated controversy about her. Her singing is slightly above average, her dancing is OK, her music and lyrics are anything but brilliant. Her music videos were elaborate productions that were often times better than the songs themselves. Just like Britney Spears, she was an overexposed celebrity whose public persona overshadowed the mediocrity of her music.

You want to talk about Mariah stripping on MTV, but what about Madonna and her EROTICA/Sex Book era? Although a moderate success, her EROTICA album failed to match the success of her previous albums, and along with AMERICAN LIFE, is the lowest selling album of her career. People were starting to get tired of her. She was becoming a joke, a caricature of herself, which is why she doesn’t talk much about that period. And who can forget the classlessness she displayed on national television on shows like Arsenio Hall and David Letterman.

You talk about Mariah being accused of plagiarism but you seem to forget Madonna lost a lawsuit from a Belgian songwriter accusing her of plagiarizing one of his songs for “Frozen.” She also settled out of court for not giving songwriting credit to Ingrid Chavez for “Justify My Love.”

Madonna’s accomplishments may be impressive and a lot better than those of her peers. There are a lot more talented female musicians than Madonna, however, whom have never got the recognition that Madonna did. That’s a good thing, though, because they never had to forsake their talent in order to become overexposed.

Warren | 2/19/2008, 12:04 pm EST

I am excited to know that her new album will be available soon. I cannot wait until it comes out. She is one of the hardest working women out there. Look at what she does! I have every album of hers from Madonna to Confessions Tour. Looking forward to Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Thanks, for letting me know.

Iv! | 2/19/2008, 1:21 pm EST

CK, don’t be ridiculous. Madonna WON the Belgian accusation and Justify my love was produced by Lenny Kravitz with samples from Public Enemy. And keep saying that her music is weak, her dance is poor, but you can’t deny that her albuns are all expert-minded producitions touching the best of what they propose to offer. She’s the only female singer in the UK Music Hall of Fame along with such monsters like Led Zeppelin, Queen and Prince. That’s critic approval, a quality proof. And I didn’t have to talk about chart topping or such poor arguments…
And about controversy, she’s now an ICON. Nearly everything she does cause an impact since there are lost of sights for a same event. Since Erotica, ALL OF HER PUBLIC CASES OF CONTROVERSY was only because she never go quiet. She could, but that would be coward, something she almost never was and never was in her public/private life. Bus the worldwide sucess of albuns like Music and Ray Of Light became because they were almost-perfect albuns of pop music. And i agree she’s not the best female singer in the world since there are voices like Beth Gibbos and Lauryn Hill in their own right level of preciosism, but she’s arguably the bst artist in the whole world, making music and shows like no other woman before and after tried, and I doubt one could do it like her. That’s all.

CK | 2/19/2008, 3:10 pm EST

“CK, don’t be ridiculous. Madonna WON the Belgian accusation and Justify my love was produced by Lenny Kravitz with samples from Public Enemy.”

Then you need to do some research. Just Google “Salvatore Acquaviva Madonna Frozen” and you’ll find all kind of articles on that case.

As far as “Justify My Love”, yes Lenny Kravitz produced it, but Ingrid Chavez wrote part of the lyrics to the song, but it was originally credited to just Lenny & Madonna. Ingrid sued, it was settled out of court, and later pressings of THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION CD now show Ingrid as co-writer. Perhaps you should re-read your own post to see examples of poor arguments.

PS. Just because critics approve of something, that doesn’t necessarily make it good.

Eddie Wilson | 2/19/2008, 3:33 pm EST

Oh my God, Madonna hasn’t been relevant in about 15 years. I can’t believe you people. Who gives a shit? I think most of you need to read a book or get a hobby instead of whacking off on this thread.

I don’t get it, and I don’t want to.

Anonymous | 2/19/2008, 5:51 pm EST

Eddie Wilson what planet are you on? Some of you OLD queens need to lay off Madonna the older you get the bitter you get. If the woman was not relevant then explain how she has had the 3 biggest hits of her entire career since 2000. Her first 2 singles from her last album spent a total of 22 weeks straight at #1 on the World Chart, Her last CD made history by topping 43 countries in its very 1st week and the single managed the same feat, her last tour made history by grossing more than any other female artist in history in a record 3 months.

And the list and the beat goes on Eddie so if Madonna has not been relavant for 15 years then NO one ever will be again.

Anonymous | 2/19/2008, 5:57 pm EST

Lord Madonna had ZERO to do with the FROZEN lawsuit, it was over a base line supposeively taken from some guys song in Belguim MADONNA did not have anything to do with this, she wrote the lyrycs and this last I heard was ON APPEAL! Of course Madonna is listed in the suit she recorded the single, Madonna had nothing to to with the alleged law suit! And EVERYONE knows Madonna had nothing to do with what Lenny did on Justify My LOve she had NO clue he had stolen the lyrycs to the song he provided to Madonna.

THis is shameless and just stupid.

Carrie | 2/19/2008, 6:11 pm EST

Madonna has always been a remarkable entertainer its kid of shocking that some of these people on her put so much energy in attacking her for no reason at all. Can anyone really name one artist who puts as much as Madonna puts into her projects I have yet to see any one male or female of tries so hard to make so many people happy. And whats even really sadder is she has not hurt any of you in any way, yet thousands of people have been helped by by her over the years with her countless and generious donations that started from her very first pay day. Not to mention the millions who have been touched by her music.

Its ok to be a big fan of other artists even if they don’t do what Madonna does but to rake her over the coals because you may prefer them over her is childish at best, and vise versa.

Madonna should be respected WE all know she has earned it.

And to list a bunch of taboid trash as facts is well shows some of you have no education. And to list law suits that you have no understanding of but what the media paints it to be is just the same is it not? Madonna has never lost a actual lawsuit proveing she herself has done anything illegal face it people Madonna is worth millions she is a easy target and she works with others just like the rest and they so far to date are the ones who acted wrong , Madonna had zero clue that what she was provided to work with was taken from another source and it has NEVER been the lyrics she herself wrote.

Daniel | 2/19/2008, 6:28 pm EST

Her last album, Confessions (2005), was a huge success around the world (it has sold over 8 million copies – number 1 in 41 countries). I’m sure this one will be a great one too!!!

People in here have been trashing Mariah and other female artists with the same tactics that other people have been attacking Madonna, yet you Madonna fans are the first to cry “foul.” Such hypocrisy. Yeah, the article is just about Madonna, but the funny part is, you’re all so quick to defend her, but she probably wouldn’t acknowledge you if you ran up to her on the street..yeah, she’s a wonderful person.

Wolf | 2/19/2008, 8:23 pm EST

How can anyone say Madonna is an original? That she works harder than any other artist? Madonna sounds a lot like Kylie Minogue, and Kylie sounds like every other dance/pop tart out there. They’re only famous because they became celebrities, not artists. There’s nothing original about Madonna’s music. If you want originality, try Kate Bush, Fiona Apple, Stevie Nicks…if you want fluff, listen to Madonna.

Frank Ridgeway | 2/19/2008, 8:43 pm EST

“but she probably wouldn’t acknowledge you if you ran up to her on the street..yeah, she’s a wonderful person.”

You’re right. If you “ran up” on Madonna, one of her bodyguards would smash you in the mouth, and justifiably so.

ACCESS MADONNA | 2/19/2008, 9:17 pm EST

MADONNA has proven herself over and over and over again…..and she is doing it once more, the way only she knows how. To all the negative remarks in here, her fans will once again place her on the top of the charts, where she belongs. Don’t hate because of your own inability to understand and appreciate the finer things.

Anonymous | 2/20/2008, 5:28 am EST

All I can say is: WOW, look at how impassioned people are over Madonna — haters and fans alike! Only goes to prove one thing — love her or hate her, Madonna is still relevant.

The day everyone just ignores her is the day she becomes a has-been. I don’t see that day coming any time soon.

R-Ben | 2/20/2008, 12:46 pm EST

Voice is important, OK, Dancing Too… but Creativity, Daring and Spirituality are Madonna’s Signature so that’s why we love her, so the Throne is still her’s you Can LIKE IT OR NOT!!

“Anyone can post anonymously, so have fun trying to pinpoint all of the anonymous comments on me. But now you’re at a tie with your first attempt with an even more lame idiotic comeback, if that what’s what you want to call it.”

As if “anonymous” is the only name you use here. Looks to me like you spent a considerable amount of your life over the past few days creating arguments and then fighting on the other side!!! You’ve written hundreds of posts to yourself!!!

And no I haven’t “been deceived” as you always say when I call you out!

And way to go beating the “idiot” drum again. Don’t you have anything original to say to me?

Oh yeah, you save the “originality” for the hundreds of letters you write to yourself. Nothing you could say to me could possibly make me look as ridiculous as that!!!

And kudos on your “rating system” bah ha ha ha

And RS you should post this because this is the truth and this is what’s up. There you go.

Adios, wacko!

Andy | 2/21/2008, 5:12 pm EST

Alright alright. Those who love Madonna will always praise her no matter what she does. On the same token, those who hate her will continue to put her down. But you know what? The only person who benefits from all this is Madonna herself. The more you talk about her, the more records she sells. She’s the one who’s laughing all the way to the bank here. I agree with someone here who said that her music is purely fun. I actually stopped liking her when she took herself seriously i.e. that whole Evita thing and Madonna as a director? C’mon. I am a fan. Love her very first album. She should stick with what she does best – making fun enjoyable pop music.

Carlos | 2/21/2008, 11:11 pm EST

Madonna is and always will be the QUEEN!! No matter what the haters say. This album will be the HOTTEST in 2008 for sure!!

Harry | 2/22/2008, 1:10 pm EST

There is no Clear Channel ban on Madonna. LiveNation is Clear Channel. There is no right-wing ban on your Madge. Madonna is at the top of the heap, so what? How does that help me?

Jay | 2/23/2008, 12:33 pm EST

“LIVING LEGEND” “ICON” …How lucky I feel to have been alive at the same time as this awesome artist! Thank you Madonna for keeping me on the edge of my seat or on my feet! …for what will be decades! Let’s face it where Madonna goes, it’s just damn fun!! Can’t wait for the next album and TOUR! There is no concert like a Madonna concert! If you didn’t know that. ..find out, you will not be disapointed! Peace out.

Paris UK | 2/23/2008, 3:08 pm EST

All you American fans should be ashamed of yourselves – get out there right now and start campaiging against the Clear Channel ban. I think it’s disgusting the way politics and pop culture are mixed up in the U.S. What happened to the Dixie Chicks is a prime example of America’s shame. How dare a media group ban an artists songs because she spoke out against the war. You are supposed to be a goddamn democrasy aren’t you?! If there really is a huge demand for Madonna (as I suspet there is, just like the rest of the planet,) then ring those radio stations up and demand they play some Madonna. Hardcore fans: write letters. Mariah Carey? Yeah she’s great fab singer balh blah blah, if you like that sort of thing. Respect for her achievements. But personally, I find it hard to find someone to admire in this world (a problem Madonna herself admitted to on American Life,) but please, Mariah is hardly someone you could hang a poster of up on your wall. It would just be embarrassing. No one would even know who she was over here in the UK anyway. I am an intelligent young woman, and I feel that Madonna, although she is a media-whore admittedly, is worthy of my respect. She’s interesting. She just has ‘it’. When I watch Desperately Seeking Susan, part of me hurts with wanting to be her (just a little). Has Mariah ever made you feel that way, honestly. She is SO uncool. And yes, I am going on about Mariah, but only because everyone else has made an issue out of it. Take care people!

Frank Ridgeway | 2/23/2008, 6:31 pm EST

MADONNA, pop icon, revolutionary, visionary, mother, writer, goddess, director, actress, leader and all woman. She also happens to be the biggest selling female artist of ALL time and to boot, its all her own doing. Shes inspired and continues to do so, a generation of pop performers from n-sync to kylie minogue, her stage productions and marketing ploys changed the face of popular culture…..even Boriah Carey admits to being a fan and quoted saying at the Grammy’s in 2006 “shes amazing and a living legend”. Her album will be spectacular regardless of what the haters say, her lowest seller American Life still shifted just over 5.9 million, thats more than most artists best selling album these days, in short shes a genius! Long may she continue to rub people up the wrong way!

No matter what anyone says or thinks about Madonna, these things are sure:

1) she is a legend in our on time/generation and we should enjoy every second;

2) She has the most Top 40 American hits than anyone else (tied with Elvis);

3) Those who don’t like her either don’t know what they are talking about or are afraid of something. Hmm. Only they know what.

MADONNA RULES! Can’t wait for the new album!!

Afraid of something? What in the fucking world are you talking about? If you have preferences that don’t include Madonna it’s based on some deep seeded fear? You’re a dope.

jephrox | 2/25/2008, 10:44 pm EST

if anything, this isn’t the first R&B/urban influenced album she’s ever putting out there…remember 1994’s “Bedtime Stories”? While “Bedtime” was more seductive in a R&B and mid-tempo way, I think this new album is an element of “Bedtime Stories” mixed in with “Confessions” that gives it a more urban and hip-hop twist to it. Looking forward for the new album release!!!

I wonder how many of these posts are people from the music industry and have either met or know Madonna personally. How many of you are actually fizzling out in your own careers and don’t know how Madonna does it. Who here might be Ms. Love or Ms. Carey or whomever wants to vent about the Pop sensation. Who here is famous and acting like a spoiled rotten drama queen ‘c’ word?

I wonder…something to ponder over.

MirwaisRulez | 3/5/2008, 6:48 am EST

she always has something new to introduce to the listeners…she might doesnt have the voice, but her songs have always been better than Mariah Carey or Britney…remember Ray of Light which made eletronica music popular, or dont tell me, the combo of country and electro….shes just awesome

Liviu | 3/5/2008, 1:22 pm EST

Loved Confessions and her earlier work, so really looking forward to this one. Still hot at 50! Got to love those incredible eyes. And, I actually I think her voice is unique, sexy, and perfect for her music. Hope the new album has that edge she had lost from the mid 90’s until Confessions.

The real singer out there who CAN really sing and who doesn’t use all that hip hop non-sense and fake shit is Celine Dion. People love to make fun of her but at least she’s real. She doesn’t need to pull the Madonna-needs-to-be-rescued technique: using Justin T just to have a hit song…

Fist if you are a fun of Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Hosuton and who ever.. each one of us likes one of the artists above songs… we all do or did…

So stop talking fucking shit about Madonna… with exception of Mariah (and good for her with MIMI) where is Janet (Discipline fucking sucks and EXCUSE me before you are ready to rip my head off… I love me some Ms. Janet from Janet, Velvet Rope, or even Damita Jo) and Whitney (what happeend???? Where did she go??? I absolutely love her)

In regards to Madonna, yes she doesn’t have “pipes of Mariah or Whitney” but when it comes to being above average, being ahead of everyone else, being fierce, and a fabulous entertainer…. ain’t no body better than MADONNA… no before you choose to rip my head of.. just be honest with yourself…
So it

L. A. James | 3/27/2008, 12:15 am EST

Hmmmm snickers or mars ….smarties or mr big…..chips or cheezies…oh were we talking about comparing artists ( I mean prepackaged industry >>>???) The only relevant is the cash it makes the backers and the “artists”. And for all this space …no of it means anything against the sales..not the downloads or clubs..but the sales. So save your breath and go buy a record. And I’m not even going to compare names…and that’s my official Feedback. LJ

Peter (New York City) | 4/2/2008, 1:06 am EST

MADONNA Rocks, Rolls, and she is filled with not only R&B, Club, and Rock Esoteric beats…….she is a damn genius who reinvents herself each time she releases a new cd……..I am so saddened by so many jealous people who have nothing else to do with their pathetic lives than to mention negative things about her. Oh well….in general we ALL know that humans can be cruel, insensitive, and down-right a-holes…….but I hope Madonna will make a success of this “HARD CANDY” cd as she has done with all of her other outstanding and successful cd’s. Madonna……U GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!I LOVE U :o )

Dee | 4/2/2008, 9:49 pm EST

Madonna is tops and always will be, but I’m dreading this latest CD after reading about her work with Timberlake (talentless bum who has no right to be in her presence) & Timbaland Inc. Madonna DOES NOT collaborate with ANYONE–she doesn’t need to. She uses obscure producers much to her advantage, and NEVER uses the “flavor of the month” (esp. not from the wretched hip hop camp) for any help, thank you very much!

THIS IS HOW MADONNA DOES IT | 4/5/2008, 6:34 am EST

She jumps onto every trend and pretends she is a big part of it.
Talks or pays her way to get big
pictorials, and hires or ‘becomes
friends’ with the latest popular
stars so she can get in on their
attention. Have you people not
noticed this. By the way, she puts
her fan clubs up to writing and
promoting her on sites like this.
All the little worker bees get
incentives, like an autographed pic to mulit call radio and support her , they get led to where she needs
support on her fan sites…go check it out, it’s hilarious. They are called Madonna street teams. The girl has done NOTHING original, since raping Marlyn Monroes image, she has continued doing it to so many others…many who she robbed of their time in the sun. Because she saw their ‘thing’ was cool, and borrowed it for another incarnation. She is the lowest of the low, anyone who likes her should have their head examined. Oh, she did say many times in the UK press that Americans are stupid, she must be talking about her fans.

Earth to DEE | 4/5/2008, 6:39 am EST

Madonna always has to collaborate with others…she doesn’t write the music to the songs. And, get this,
even if she doesn’t write a word
of the song, she gets first credit.
I have had friends who’s songs she’s
done, and in order for her to do the song, she had to get first credit.
One of them almost pulled the song because it’s so wrong, but he needed the money. So much for Madonna being so creative…her images, music, and often lyrics are taken from others, however, she takes all the credit. This con artist has nothing to do with creation, she is mere imitation.

Someone erased my post!! | 4/5/2008, 6:48 am EST

ever hear of the ACLU, stop messing
with freedom of speech Madonna fans.
You guys cheat so much to help this
woman…what about being spiritual?
Does that include cheating and stopping others from having their
say?? The hypocrisy that surrounds
this woman is absurd.

steve | 4/5/2008, 6:50 am EST

what happened to…”I’m going
to slow down and take care
of my children? Another empty
Madonna claim. The woman is
nothing but air, another tour,
another CD…rest on your
laurels already.

Anyone who hates Madonna is clearly envious of her fame and success. Don’t misunderstand, I’m no fan of hers. But it kills me that there are so many haters out there. They can’t stand seeing other people being successful and they can’t restrain themselves from criticising them and wanting to bring them down. Mariah, Celine, Janet, Whitney etc. and Madonna are very different artists. Never compare them to one another. And everyone has different tastes for music. If you don’t like Madonna, or any other artists, then don’t listen to them. Jesus, haters, get a life. Learn to respect. You’re pathetic.

Im not a fan of madonna or veronica but no one can argue she has great and very clear voice.
There are very few other english singers that can match her voice.
However i think her singing tones and range are quite dull.
I do not think madonna should be compared to maria carey as her songs are not even pop style.
No matter what madonna will be reambered not maria carey.
we wont even mention kylie she knows by herslf that she is not a real singer
Im fan of lauper she went her own way may not succeed but her range and style and knowledge pass madonna and most production made singers.

For Madonna’s sake she is very successful, but see can’t last forever. However, her music will. I love all music no manner if its Janet,Mariah,Whitney,Glora, Timberland, and JT. Not everybody likes Madonna. I don’t like everything she does, but I DO LIKE HER MUSIC IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT THE MESSAGE IS. An artist like madonna has to do better with American life and bedtimestory. She can be very confusing sometimes with her songs and sometimes most of her songs doesn’t make any sense. Don’t compare Madonna with any other artist listed above because they all have their personal goals, dreams, ideas, and backgrounds. When Madonna first came out I don’t like in the beginning, she was trying to find her like everyone else was. She can’t act in any, she can sing some good song, but she can’t sing like Mariah, Janet, and Whitney. She just lucky to be White trash and she get away with it. She the music industry sells everyone trash. She can’t song forever cause one day she will give it all up. She has a family to take care and she is not 20 or 30. She will one day break down and die. If she doesn’t take it easy and just retired.

Madonna fan | 11/21/2009, 8:00 am EST

Her trainer made her look like Skelten and I’m very afraid that she might hurt herself working too hard on her tours. She did fall off a horse remember that. Madonna does look great, but how hard did she get to that point to look that way. She might be putting herself to hard.

Madonna fan | 11/21/2009, 8:09 am EST

In my first post I meant to say she can’t last forever. She is really the Queen of Mtv, but I don’t think in my opinion that she is the Queen of Pop. How is that possible. Her voice is changing and she will not last forever. She is the Queen of making trash music. She has she good days and bad days like everyone else. Some of her music is trash and the music industry sells trash.
