A pair of big-ticket music videos premiered yesterday on the interweb. First up, Kanye West’s video for Graduation’s “Flashing Lights.” The ultra-slick Spike Jonze-directed video is half Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! and half Victoria’s Secret catalogue. The main shot is a woman in lingerie walking in slow motion for two and a half minutes. She then burns some stuff and beats a taped-up West with a shovel. It doesn’t appear to have much to do with the lyrics, but it’s certainly striking.
Also out: R.E.M.’s clip for “Supernatural Superserious,” the first single from the band’s new album Accelerate. The video is a breathless tour through downtown New York and includes a visit to a sex shop. Accelerate is out April 1st.
