The Police Plot One More U.S. Tour, Then Retirement

2/13/08, 10:30 am EST

The Police reunion tour will make one more trip through North America this summer before the band calls it quits again. As opposed to last year, the group will stick to amphitheaters and arenas without any any stadium or festival stops during the thirty-odd date trek in May and July (with a fifteen date run in Europe sandwiched into June). The band also promises to play U.S. cities that were skipped over when the band first reunited last May. According to sources close to the Police, Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers plan to hang up the handcuffs forever after their run concludes in July. The Police reunion tour is estimated to be one of the top five highest-grossing tours of all-time, with the net profit somewhere in the range of $340 million when all is said and done.

“Hang up the cuffs? That’s as bogus as George Bush saying Mission Accomplished…”

Really? A bogus claim? Before this they hadn’t played together in 24 years, if you don’t count the 3 songs they played at Sting’s wedding. They’re pretty capable of breaking up and going their seperate ways.

And why do some people insist on using every post they write to force some stupid political idea through? When you’re talking politics, talk politics, when you’re talking music talk music. Otherwise, it sounds pretentious and forced, probably like your “personality”!

Ok I previously posted a comment
earlier that said their nose bleed tickets are 182 dollars…. thats what it said on the ticket purchasing website….. on Sting’s
page it says 50, 90, and 225….
Still incredibly high… for a band with no new songs….but at least 50 gets you in the door.

Why can’t the Police be intersting? All this PR bullshit of Hanging up the Cuffs after this summers tour is nauseating. As one of their biggest fans I am disgusted that they have ventured into this Styx/Kiss/Eagles reunion territory. The Police should take a lesson from Bruce Springsteen and shut their mouth, make a record as a band… and play a couple dozen shows every year. Hang up the cuffs? That’s as bogus as George Bush saying Mission Accomplished…they played the same set every night. No wonder they hate each other….

Oh, don’t worry about having missed them. They suck live. And they’ll tour again, trust me. With the ridiculous prices they charged they’d be stupid not to.

auramac | 2/14/2008, 2:41 am EST

They shoud try to do an album without once trying to sound like the Police- just get into a creative mode and see what happens. Why- it’s better if they do it with hired session guns?

EC | 2/13/2008, 9:27 pm EST

I hope they make it to Memphis. I didn’t go last year either but adding EC tips it just enough for me to want to go.

New studio album would’ve been better than overdubbed fake live album (lucky for us all there are some great bootlegs out there! heh heh heh). I really wish they would make a cd….all good things end…but for those of us who saw them this time around…it was well worth it!

The Beatles of Generation X.

So much for a new studio album. The result would have likely been Lucasian in execution, but I’d still have liked to see a go at it.

elvis costello is reported to be the opening act for the US shows this summer

I guess The Police would like to make a little more cash before they call it quits. Maybe last year they didn’t reach their monetary goal and would like to earn a few more million so they can live comfortably in retirement.

Jungleland | 2/13/2008, 12:53 pm EST

I am kicking myself for missing them in Atlanta this year. Maybe they will play one of the Georgia outdoor theatres (Verizon or Lakewood?) or the smaller (13,000) Gwinnett Arena…if so I will not make the same mistake twice!

so what
