Scorsese Unveils Rolling Stones Doc at Berlin Film Fest

2/7/08, 10:30 am EST

The Rolling Stones and Martin Scorsese opened the Berlin International Film Festival today with the world premiere of the Stones concert film Shine a Light. After a screening, the band and the director met with an overflow crowd of reporters for a press conference full of mutual admiration. Mick Jagger pointed out that “Shine a Light is the only Martin Scorsese movie I know that doesn’t have ‘Gimme Shelter’ in it!” In other rock movie news, Scorsese said that he is currently “looking at footage” for his upcoming George Harrison movie, and that it’s going to be a “straight documentary.”

imho they peaked in the era 69-73 and everything they did then sparkled with rock magic, but they are still capable of tapping the vein of brilliance and should not be written off as has beens just because they have been better. Who hasn’t?

I agree with Chris–they keep coming out with good, solid, diverse stuff and don’t recycle the same old crap. Tatto You was a great record, but most people don’t get to hear the new stuff much because radio sucks now, and it’s gone way down hill since 1981 when Tattoo came out. Sure, they’ve had their share of hits and misses the last 25 years, (guys I love you, but please I really don’t need yet another live album or greatest hits album), but the last few studio albums were really very good. Yeah, they’re old. And maybe a little scary to look at. Just close your eyes then, and listen. And be happy!

The limited viewing I had made me feel alive and wanting to get up and dance. Great memories. Great performance! Can’t wait to see and buy if possible DVD.

This will kick ass. Scorsese simply doesn’t make bad movies.

bowieno, i am no doctor, but i am pretty sure people do age. i don’t know, i could be wrong. and you must not have gotten ‘voodoo lounge’ or ‘a bigger bang.’ both records are BETTER than ‘tattoo you.’

John M. Goot | 2/7/2008, 12:45 pm EST

any chance there is video footage of this press conference?

bowieno | 2/7/2008, 11:35 am EST

I saw the trailer to this movie. It looked really bad. They are anciecnt and Richards is a creature. The Stones have not made anything relevant since Tattoo You
