Interview Santana on RollingStone.com!

2/7/08, 1:45 pm EST

If you could ask Santana one thing, what would it be? Figure it out and let us know, because we’ll be talking to the legendary guitarist next week, and we want questions from you. Send us a YouTube video of yourself asking a question to Carlos, and the best of the lot will run in a special video Q&A with Santana next week. So instead of making videos like this, put that webcam to good use by February 11th at 9 AM EST.

To submit your video question, you can either:

  • Join our YouTube group here and upload your video to the group, or
  • Upload your video to a video-hosting site (YouTube, MySpace Videos, Vimeo, etc.) and email the URL of your uploaded video to: askarockstar@gmail.com. Please: NO ATTACHMENTS! We will not accept video files.

RollingStone.com reserves the right to edit videos for length and/or clarity. And don’t bother asking what Abraxas means: No questions you can answer by looking at his Wikipedia entry!

I don’t have a webcam, but I wanna know why he was banned from playing in Peru in 1972? My dad had tickets for the show!! There are many version but no real answers

I don’t have a webcam either but I would like to know why he thought it was such a good idea to make his last two albums to be carbon copies of his megahit album Supernatural. Did he really think that by having two more duets albums after Supernatural that he was really going to achieve the same success? Not to mention, did he really think that he was really going to achieve a different sound by doing the same thing twice over? Did he actually think we were going to buy these photocopied records? Well, some people did… Sheesh. The nerve of this guy….

I don’t have a webcam either — I want to know why he thinks people like meefcoy have such a visceral reaction to the production of good art just because it’s similar to something the artist did earlier. I bought both the “carbon copy” albums, as did a lot of other people, and loved them both. What does Santana think? Why can’t these people appreciate good art?

Hey Ocol, There is a difference between having a “visceral” listening ear and an educated one, which, by your response, you’ve clearly confused the two. I’m not the only one who thinks Santana’s last two albums are watered-down records that wished they could live up to Supernatural. Just read the Rollingstone’s Reviews of both: “On Shaman, too many visitors sound as if they’re climbing on a gravy train, handing over standard-issue love songs for Santana overdubs. It makes you wonder whether Santana ever met some of his collaborators. ” All That I Am Review:”Santana’s revolving door keeps on turning, and with every star who passes through to sing lead on a track off their latest album, what was once a great American band steps closer to becoming a permanent gimmick. It was cool the first time, back in 1999…” I’m not saying that Santana is a terrible artist…infact, his earlier stuff lays the blueprint for today’s modern guitar craft. But Ocol, if you really think that his last 2 albums exemplify his talent, then clearly your taste in what you call “Good Art” doesn’t expand beyond anything more than mainstream trash.

I just want to say that I´m a huge fan of his music, and the last time I saw him live was at Rock in Rio Lisbon 2006. He was fab.
I would like to ask him what he thinks about Mark Knopfler and his music.
