Britney Spears: The Complete Photo Timeline and Cover Stories

2/7/08, 6:58 pm EST

In the current cover story, Vanessa Grigoriadis examines the tragedy of Britney Spears, a star whose downward trajectory from chart-topping international superstar to hospitalized object of curiosity is more stunning considering how high Spears’ career soared just a few short years ago, and how quickly she careened out of control. To illustrate the evolution of Spears from child star to teen-pop sensation to paparazzi magnet, Rock Daily has assembled a photo timeline of her life and posted her six previous Rolling Stone cover stories from April 15, 1999, May 25, 2000, September 13, 2001, December 6/13, 2001, October 3, 2002 and October 2, 2003. Poor Britney. she’s become a national institution. i genuinely feel sorry for her and hope she gets the help which she clearly needs – before something Really bad happens. for her own health & sanity, she should take an indefinite hiatus from the biz.

In Chronological Order…

I’m a Pop Star, I’m a Trashy Pop Star that Likes the Drugs, I’m a Whacked Out Former Pop Star.

One would think that if her parents truly cared, and she hates them that much, her parents would let the courts place independent conservators for her medical and financial decisions. She is probably afraid that her parents are going to steal the silverware. Instead, Papa Spears is determined that HE is going to oversee his daughter’s money. If he gave a damn for her health, she would be in a hospital. Conservators can do that. As for the mother? She makes trailer trash look good.

When there’s that much money at stake, everbody probably gets a bit shadier.
I for one would be suspicious of a cameraman nobody had ever heard of until a couple weeks ago. But from what it sounds like, all of them need to be taken with a grain of salt.
The only people that could truly help her would be complete strangers not acting on any pre-existing agenda. But since she’s a mess, who’s the honest one to lead her that direction?

the government usually uses isolated incidents as a way to pass ‘draconian’ new laws, and while i usually disagree with this kind of demagoguery strategy, in this case i believe laws need to be passed to protect people like britney…

you know; if britney — or any woman for that matter — broke up with a lover, and that lover kept calling and harassing her – the police would happily intervene on a little divide and conquer social engineering mission – so where are the police now and why aren’t those same laws being applied now?

i suppose what i am really saying is that instead of making new laws; current laws need to be enforced to protect britney…

Britney being hauled off to the fancy madhouse looks awfully “Francis Farmer-ish.” Is there anyone overseeing the overseers?
