I was definitely there. Metallica was pretty good, but not as good as they were the night before in Nashville where I saw them.

Bonnaroohaswent2crap | 6/16/2008, 7:15 pm EST

Anyone who was pissed about the lineup for Bonnaroo has every right to be. Kanye West proved to be a complete jackass. Complete disrespect for anyone who came to see him. Tool was the exact same last year. Bonnaroo is bringing in bad headliners. Metallica may have drawn people, but that’s what they said about them being at Woodstock 99. Look what happened there. Rothbury is looking mighty good.

Funny stuff people Funny stuff | 6/4/2008, 8:25 pm EST

How bout this….If you see a lineup for a festival that does not have bands that you like… you do not go to that festival and you find the one that has the bands that year that you appreciate.
“OH MY GOD I CAN NOT BELIEVE BONNAROO DID NOT CALL ME FIRST BEFORE PUTTING METALLICA ON THE LINEUP. DONT THEY KNOW I DONT LIKE THEM”

Sounds ridiculous that way doesn’t it. think about it.

This is going to be my first Bonnaroo, you know why, cause there are bands playing there that I like….. guess what I went to Lollapalooza last year…cause guess what… there were bands there that I liked…
Thats what summer festivals area about… Diversity …..Change… Thats what give you longevity.
PEACE.

So much bickering, poor little wanna-be hippies. Its all about the music man. Who cares Metallica sux as people, they still are uber-talented musically. Kanye West and Talib Kweli go together like cocaine and hookers, West is cocky but if you dont think your number1 who else would. So Just go and absorb all the new culture, shmucks. Drive by Truckers Shit yeah

Aquabrooke | 5/16/2008, 1:33 am EST

Wow, what a bunch of whiners..Get your own festival if you don’t like it.
There is so much music at Bonnaroo, couldn’t you just go see something else, that you didn’t hate? Enjoy the fact that you are not one of the 80,000 people trying to see the tiny action figures on the mainstage. Diversity=Interesting, People complained about Tool last year, that didn’t slow down ticket sales, the festival sold out! Amazing.

Go see Swell Season. Saw them Tues. in Atl, just amazing.

Dan | 5/1/2008, 5:32 pm EST

I think this years headliners are Diverse but not the best line up that Bonnaroo has brought to the table. The smaller bands is what will make Bonnaroo this year amazing. Sigur Ros, Broken Social Scene, Death Cab For Cutie, Zappa Plays Zappa, Cat Power, My Morning Jacket, Ben Folds, Ladytron, Vampire Weekend,Rilo Kiley, Phil Lesh and Friends, Sword, and many others that you can catch. I think Lollapalooza has better headliners! But the are not as diverse as Bonnaroo, the experience at the Farm is what makes Bonnaroo so great! Its a big party not just a big concert!! ITs an experience you will never forget…

Kayne West is terrible, how can he be in the same concert as the allman brothers, Metallica, Phil Lesh and friends and all the other great bands. Rap is awful and should be left out at bonnaroo.

Wes | 4/11/2008, 11:57 pm EST

The Metallica fans of the 80s aren’t the nu-metal fans of the millennium. In fact I don’t know a single old school Metallica fan that likes nu-metal. Metal of the 80s (Guns n’ Roses, AC/DC, Skid Row, Iron Maiden, etc.) is rock right now, which would be your bands like breaking benjamin, seether, nickelback, and incubus (which all rock). So, I don’t think a bunch of old school Metallica fans in their late 20s and 30s will be bad for Bonnaroo.

Jeff | 3/26/2008, 10:43 pm EST

If you were actually a true fan of jam bands you would love this line up…this is clearly one of the best Bonaroo lineups yet..

glorifiedj | 3/22/2008, 9:37 am EST

pearl jam is what is bringing me to the show.who cares if you people don’t like a band just go to another stage..enjoy the show.if you don’t like the line up don’t go

scarface3985 | 3/6/2008, 2:00 pm EST

im glad that people have started to finnaly come around on this years lineup. i mean Kanye and Metalica are kinda bunk but Yee GOds willie and BB and Plant, now thats a friggin show. not to mention the astounding sounds of Sigur Ros and the allmans. derek trunks is one of the coolest guys i ever met and is on his way to mount olympis to join past rock gods who have made their acession. so bottom line this is my 5th roo and it will not be my last, as long as here is a little place in tennesse i can go once a year to step out of the guidelines and restrictions of society…ill be there, how about you?

LeJester | 2/20/2008, 12:47 am EST

Well, I can say one thing. Perhaps finally with the added diversity we will not have to miss as many shows as they stack like genres together at different stages at the same times.

Why do they create such traffic jams?

LeJester

adam | 2/18/2008, 7:26 pm EST

amazing lineup, something for everyone. maybe a meth-metalhead will marry a hippie chick during… The Allmans!! :0)

DMB2241 | 2/12/2008, 11:32 pm EST

COME ON YALL

PEARL JAM
PHIL LESH
BB KING
ALLMAN BROTHERS
DEREK TRUCKS
METALLICA
ROBERT PLANT

THATS GREAT MUSIC

Lindsaysarokstar | 2/12/2008, 10:48 pm EST

You won’t find that because it’s not true. Although, the lineup is diverse, and much of it mainstream, that’s a good thing. The festival would quickly die down if bands no one ever heard of headlined for seven years straight. The diversity is what I love about Roo. I can go hear Phil&friends, Kanye West, Willie Nelson, MIA, and Deathcab all at the same festival, how bad ass is that. Bonnaroo is produced by AC Entertainment (out of knoxville,TN…founder Ashley Capps) and Superfly Productions (Vegoos producer as well). MTV does NOT own Bonnaroo, otherwise they would have been there years before with their cameras and crew all over the place. Rumors that MTV bought Bonnaroo are just that..rumors.

Tiney | 2/12/2008, 6:26 pm EST

Where can I find verifacation that MTV owns Bonnaroo?!?! because this line-up screams MTV, but I can’t write that in my article if it is not 100% true

Mokemaster | 2/11/2008, 12:16 pm EST

Last year was my first Bonnaroo and personally I think musicial diversity/fusion is where its at. Bonnaroo 2007 did an amazing job of being musically diverse, there were quite simply so many different genres, many of which fused genres together (Galactic was by far one of my favorite bands last year and I am a Tool fan).

To me, this lineup is even more diverse than last years. It really will be an amazing event, I just wish the rest of you could see it in the same perspective and stop polarizing music genres. In fact, this is one of the reasons why music seems so unoriginal nowadays - everybody is against fusing genres together, its all the same because unoriginality sells.

The lineup | 2/11/2008, 11:12 am EST

I am happy to see the festival grow to such a success however the lineup is a little intimidating. The Metalicca crowd is a little outside the realms of regular Bonnaroo fans. I just hope they haven’t bit off more than they can chew this is a pretty aggresive lineup and pray everything works for them. Good Luck.

Pete | 2/10/2008, 8:36 pm EST

I am going to Bonaroo….Just to see Metallica..

Pearl Jams Great. Im interested in seeing Lez Zeppelin..

But……..FUCKING METALLICA!!! WAAAAHOOOOO!!!!!

Action | 2/10/2008, 11:39 am EST

I have been going to Roo for 3 years now. Those of you who throw around that Bonnaroo “sold out” are probally the same people that they are trying to avoid with this lineup. No festival can last on pure Jam Bands alone, live by the Jam Band die by broke bums who scammed a ticket and can only get through the weekend by ripping off others.

asshore | 2/10/2008, 1:00 am EST

metallica is the best fucking band to walk the face of the earth. the talent and song writing skills are beyond this world. granted, newer metallica is mediocre at best, they have stood the test of time. They are the 7th most all time record selling artists ever.

Flop | 2/9/2008, 9:00 pm EST

Overall I think the line-up is pretty good. I think Metallica would fit better at an other festival but, oh well. I’m really hoping Ween will be there again.

johnny | 2/9/2008, 8:48 pm EST

this is a pretty solid lineup. yeah, as kind of a hippie music fan, the headliners are a little disappointing. metallica is not too impressive, and jack johnson is a fine picnic band, but not much of a bonnaroo headliner. but there are a handful of shows that should be pretty interesting. any what self-respecting hippie isnt excited about levon helm?

Fil | 2/9/2008, 10:13 am EST

I will have to take issue with all the MEtallica ragging. Have any of you guys ever seen Metallica live? They are incredible live! Now that being said I’m an old school Metallica fan (haven’t bought a CD since the Black album), but I’m sure they will blow everyone away. Much better than Tool & the Police last year.
Now, can we talk Robert Plant into going by the Super Jam tent…

Festivaller | 2/9/2008, 3:55 am EST

Boycott Bonnaroo ! I Agree!
Horrible headliners.

Colorado_Dan | 2/9/2008, 3:53 am EST

Wow, I am almost floored. Is this the end of one of the greatest festivals ever? Metallica and Pearl Jam belong in an arena with a bunch of hyped up metal fools, not in a fun atmosphere like bonnaroo. Jack Johnson is for Frat boys, man I’m really disapointed. Radiohead at bonnaroo in 2006 was the best concert ever, the whole lineup that year was great and there was good energy from the beginning to the end. I’m not giving a dime to this sell out BS.

thetruth | 2/8/2008, 8:29 pm EST

Metallica =Woodstock ‘99

This festival is played out - I’ve been every year, but thats the nail in the coffin for me.

gee | 2/8/2008, 8:11 pm EST

if only the red hot chili peppers were included in that list. it’d be perfect then. :)

jmng | 2/8/2008, 1:20 am EST

Seeing PJ headline will own. I’m not too entirely excited about anything else though. I was really hoping to see Radiohead and The Arcade Fire there. Also, I’d rather the White Stipes be there than the Raconteurs but they should be pretty good.

Luis | 2/8/2008, 12:31 am EST

Black Kids have their 4 song EP available for free at http://www.blackkidsmusic.com if anyone is looking for new music. They just signed to Almost Gold Recordings. I was planning on seeing them in Coachella, but this is sooo much closer and I’m sure the Florida crowd will be there.

Luke | 2/8/2008, 12:20 am EST

Boycott Bonnaroo. Plain and Simple.
Encourage all your friends to do the same. Seriously if they are going to give us this crap, then screw them. I have been going to Bonnaroo since the beginning, and I have to say that they have sold out officially. I wish I could justify going, but because they have two of the worst bands ever headlining that would be impossible. Anyways, if anyone agrees with me, just tell everyone that you know not to go, because really do you know anyone cool who thinks Metallica is good, especially now?

Lez Zeppelin fan | 2/8/2008, 12:19 am EST

Go Lez Zeppelin!!

Anthony | 2/7/2008, 11:18 pm EST

I know it is a day-old comment, but Alex wishing Metallica’s bus would crash is ridiculously tasteless, especially considering that band’s history.

As someone who likes variety in a festival, I dig the overall lineup….however I do have some apprehension due to the crowd Metallica seems to attract, not their actual music.

darrin hayes | 2/7/2008, 6:59 pm EST

So far, this years’ lineup is pretty solid. However, ever since Metallica(more specifically Lars Ulrich) brought down Napster, I had a passionate hatred for the band. With that is mind, I’m pissed that Bonnaroo would even think anybody would enjoy the show. They aren’t even the Bonnaroo type. Tool was a stretch last year, but Metallica is too far gone. Oh well, I guess instead of seeing them this year I can just go hit up the silent disco. In addition, Kanye West is going to be the shit. Bottom Line.

Darrin Hayes | 2/7/2008, 6:51 pm EST

This year’s lineup so far is pretty solid. I am a little disappointed about the fact that Metallica playing. Tool was a stretch last year, but Metallica if just to far gone. Oh well, that show will give me some time for the Silent Disco. Also, Kanye West is going to be shit as hell. bottom line.

Richard Buccola | 2/7/2008, 5:00 pm EST

The Girls of Lez Zeppelin ROCK ROCK ROCK!!! I know singer Sarah Mclellan personally and she is so excited. I asked her what she would do if Robert Plant wants to join them on stage, she tole me she would shit and then die a happy girl. I am sure if Plant does get the chance to hear the girls play he will be in awe of them just like everyone else. Get the Led Out…

homie | 2/7/2008, 10:47 am EST

Where is radiohead?! and Broken Social Scene is going to be BOMB
be sure to check BSS out

drew | 2/7/2008, 10:09 am EST

I have no problem with the line-up…it will evolve…for better or worse.

Went to the first 4 B’roos. It was best the first year, probably because of the novelty of it, but there was also a vibe at the 1st one that was never matched in later years. Everybody should go at least once just for the experience.

I’m done with Bonnaroo though, at least for a while. I can only afford so many festivals each year, and Bonnaroo just ain’t worth it to me anymore (the cost, the crowds, the marathon). I’ve been to big festivals, and I’ve been to small ones, and I’ll take the small ones every time now… maybe it’s my advancing age.

I’ll continue to hit Suwanee Music Park down in Live Oak, FL a couple of times of year (Wanee, Springfest, Magfest) where I can camp in comfort and not have fight the insane crowds you have at Bonnaroo. Maybe Langerado, Allgood, Smilefest (if it ain’t dead) or the Echo Project.

Julie | 2/7/2008, 5:27 am EST

The saddest part about these headliners is that they have to fall in the shadow of months of rumors of a Led Zeppelin ticket. I don’t think any other band or artist could have been announced without causing a mass shoulder slump.

Maybe Metallica and Kanye will distract the bulk of Bonnaroo-ers while the rest get close with lesser-known artists who are known for their stellar live shows (like Gogol Bordello and Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings).

Edric | 2/7/2008, 12:46 am EST

metallica is an odd choice for a headliner…it may work though.

i was personally hoping Arcade Fire would play bonnaroo this year…..weep

St. Robinson | 2/7/2008, 12:02 am EST

Oh, and Doug….Vineland Festival in NJ this August….no lineup yet but a friend of mine works for them and says it’s going to be awesome.

St. Robinson | 2/6/2008, 11:56 pm EST

I agree with BR….there’s about 70 bands now and soon to be more…if you don’t like Metallica/Kanye/whatever else: skip ‘em. There’ plenty of “hippie” bands, plenty of badass rock, plenty of rap, plenty of everything….Bonnaroo is the best festival out there; best crowd, best organized, best bands.

And Anonymous has a point…the Truckers are the best band around (in my/his opinion)…just go and love it. You probably don’t know Gogol Bordello but they’ll rock your face off….and who has a problem with B.B. or Willie?

I just hope The Hold Steady plays again.

For God’s sake most of you…suck it up. Either go or don’t bitch. “Sellout” is the most over-used, stupid cliche expression, get over it. I always thought Bonnaroo liked having bands that were….uh….good. That’s why I’ve gone every year, and if I can wrangle the cash together will be this year too.

mia | 2/6/2008, 11:27 pm EST

hmm… i think the lineup is okay..

doug | 2/6/2008, 11:10 pm EST

can anyone recommend any other good camping festivals in the US this summer?

Chuckals | 2/6/2008, 10:38 pm EST

I’m pretty pumped! Just like last year, so many new bands to chill with!!! coff cofff pass it down you bogart

Coulter | 2/6/2008, 8:28 pm EST

Awesome line-up!! I enjoy listen to all kinds of music unlike some of the ignorant fucks on this board.

And Against Me! sure as hell ain’t metal.

b | 2/6/2008, 7:52 pm EST

I think this line-up is a “sellout,” as in it will “sell” “out” immediately. Even though the Bonnaroo organizers think Metallica will be their meal ticket, I think they may find that the band’s angry brand of chunka-chunka will be more of a headache than the good times the festival is known for.

But who knows, knowing how fast the tickets will sell out, chances are no real meth-al heads will get tickets anyway.

Although the parking lot might be a scene.

Music FAN | 2/6/2008, 6:40 pm EST

Kayne West…ARE YOU KIDDING ME??
He is so damn cocky! He makes me SICK all he cares about is b*tches, flying in big planes, Money, and winning Grammys! Im all for diverse music but really Kayne?? Im sure his next step is a reality show on MTV! What does Bonnaroo have to do with HIM??
COME ON!!

yeah | 2/6/2008, 6:24 pm EST

pk | 2/6/2008, 10:00 am EST

man, for hippies, some of you people are oddly closeminded about music.

That line sums it up perfectly. Abyway, ignore the headliners and the list has the same eclecticism as every year. I still can’t believe it took 21 posts for someone to cry “sell out”. Usually that happens much earlier, that’s like not seeing rock is dead in a discussion of contemporary music.

IMADORK | 2/6/2008, 4:03 pm EST

I think this is a pretty diverse lineup. You have an array of styles from jam bands like Allman Brothers, My Morning Jacket, Little Feat, Drive- By Truckers, Phil Lesh. You only have two metal acts with Metallica and Mastadon and trust me, they’re better than most metal out there. At least it isn’t mindless. Than you have legends like B.B. King, Plant, Willie Nelson, Solomon Burke. I don’t think this is their best lineup but it’s definitely a solid one.

mr roboto | 2/6/2008, 3:08 pm EST

Metallica have no place at Bonnaroo. It’s like having Belle and Sebastian headline the Gigantour!

Mullet Man | 2/6/2008, 2:33 pm EST

Last year was the year of the vibe changed from the original. Now they are Monsters of Rock meets Coachella. Bring on the meth heads and pose while grabbing your crotch cause stupidity rules again at rock festivals! Yeehaw!

Surf City Sounds Plus | 2/6/2008, 2:30 pm EST

Hi: …Kinda wish I could go to the ‘roo, to get away….In any case, say the schedules permitted it, who’s to say Mr. Plant wouldn’t be in a good mood and jam with the Lez Zep gals, ‘ceptin’ himself?? Hmmm?

Brizzad | 2/6/2008, 1:53 pm EST

Man, i am so diappointed. How can you follow up last year with this garbage.

There are a lot of good bands playing but Its not worth the raised ticket price, the rv pass, and all the expense to see this. They also need to sell some day passes.

pt | 2/6/2008, 1:30 pm EST

Pearl Jam Will Own this as they do everything else!!!!!!!!!

BR | 2/6/2008, 1:27 pm EST

Regardless of the lineup, the reason Bonnaroo beats all other festivals is that most acts get to play full-length sets. If you don’t like the headliners, you can chill and rest up for bands from midnight-3am. You can’t do that at other festivals.

So, skip metallica or jack johnson instead of complaining. You’ll still get late night sets from MMJ or Sigur Ros!!

Anonymous | 2/6/2008, 1:26 pm EST

Anonymous | 2/6/2008, 11:41 am EST

everyone’s focusing on the heavy, but you got some quality tunes here: drive by truckers(only the best band in tha land, my morning jacket, bb king, allman brothers, willie nelson, racantouers, kwelli?
stop whining if your going, cause us regular people will be working in the beginning of june, you know summer in the jersey shore!

mcaphoto | 2/6/2008, 11:30 am EST

Diversity is so key. Tool rocked that mother last year and didnt hurt the hippie vibe at all.

This is a stellar lineup. It so trumps Coachella. Looking forward to this festival.

pk | 2/6/2008, 10:00 am EST

Godzilla | 2/6/2008, 9:32 am EST

Metallica and Mastodon don’t belong in that list. Get them outta there!!

Cathy Porter | 2/6/2008, 9:31 am EST

to me, someone who appreciates Metallica along with Sigur Ros this is a fantastic lineup. Diversity is the key. Take what you like and leave the rest. Soemthing for everyone

joey graben | 2/6/2008, 9:22 am EST

This is kind of a let down. I only say that because of Metallica. I like the hippie love at bonnaroo. It’s nice it’s kind. you been to a metal show recently. Metal fans are @$$ holes. Metallica, against me, mastodon. this is super flys get out of jail free card. If this becomes a trend. i will no longer go. they can keep kanye west too.

theoutsideworld | 2/6/2008, 9:22 am EST

SIGUR ROS!!!!

Anonymous | 2/6/2008, 9:11 am EST

Steve is actually mad about pot smoking at bonnaroo. First of all, lars ulrich is a whiney dude, and they’re music blows. Angry about pot smoking at bonnaroo? where have you been? your the guy who gets angry when the beach ball hits you in the back of the head. sigur ros, rilo kiley, robert randolph!!!!!!!!!!!

Mullet Man | 2/6/2008, 9:04 am EST

Metallica draws the mullets! yeah baby, now lots of crystal meth heads will be out in droves punching each other and getting drunk to scare the jam banders and indie kids away! on a more serious note, tribute bands suck!

Steve | 2/6/2008, 3:51 am EST

You people are idiots for thinking that Metallica doesn’t draw fans!! They only have one of the largest crowd draws on record. Just like KISS is still drawing fans, so will they! By the way, who is garbagehead?- they haven’t had any music play hardly at all, except for that garbage song about, oh, say a decade ago! So, stop smoking pot and/or sniffing whatever it is and listen to quality, energetic music that doesn’t suck (like radiopoop).

Matt | 2/6/2008, 3:49 am EST

What’s with the hate for this lineup? Is it too many people you’ve heard of or too few people you’ve heard of? I don’t know which one’s cool with the kids these days. Do the kids still use that word, cool?

Radiohead’s going to be in Europe. Their 2006 performance was the best concert I’ve ever been to. Hands down. I wish they could play Bonnaroo again, and you know…replace Jack Johnson, whom I despise. Anyway–Sigur Ros! How awesome is that?!

How is Sigur Ros #13 on the list? their show is going to be insane. Awesome addition.

Why the holy hell is Metallica gonna be there?
