Jordin Sparks To Sing National Anthem, Alicia Keys Joins Super Bowl Performance Roster

2/1/08, 10:30 am EST

American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is about to accomplish something her retired football player father never did: Perform on the Super Bowl field. Sparks, whose dad Phillippi spent nine seasons wearing the New York Giants blue but never made it to the big game, will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Sunday’s Super Bowl in Jordin’s home turf of Glendale, Arizona. Alicia Keys has also been drafted to perform during the Super Bowl pre-game show, even though Keys admits “Even I, who might think the Mighty Ducks and Penguins are playing, love the Super Bowl.” Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers headline the halftime show, while this year’s batch of high-profile commercials will feature the likes of Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Missy Elliott.

My goodness people who really cares. That girl is one of the most new talented singers out there. Did you hear her at the NAACP awards? That was live and AWESOME! She made Aretha look sick.
The girl is super! Go Jordan!

Sorry, but that was totally lip synced. I watched her on AI and her voice was never that perfect. No live singer’s voice is that smooth…even Whitney, Celine, and Mariah’s voices are never so smooth and perfect live. But as I understand it, the Super Bowl anthem is often lip synced (I am not sure if it is always done). For proof in the pudding, go to youtube and check out Jewel singing the national anthem. Her voice kicked in seconds before she could even get to the microphone, LOL. Unfortunately, we have a whole new generation of kids so used to seeing their music idols lip syncing that they no longer can tell the difference between “live” and “Not live”.

Wheelz | 2/5/2008, 9:14 pm EST

The artist has no other choice than to lipsync. They are forced to do it by the producers. If you think she really sang the song live, you are 100 percent wrong. I won’t tell you who I am but I have more than enough experience to know that I am right about this.

Lee-Ann | 2/5/2008, 10:25 am EST

The National Anthem is ALWAYS lip synched at the super bowl. I thought this was a known fact.

BV234 | 2/5/2008, 1:29 am EST

No, she didn’t lip-synced. “Gina” Said, “her mouth moved away from the microphone, her voice stayed exactly the same.” The Point to pulling away the mike is because her voice grew in volume, and so to make it sound equal than other notesy they pull the mic away, “gina”. and at the end of the song (through the screaming crowd) you can hear her voice “crumble” a little. If it was pre-recorded they would have re-done to make it sound perfect. She been performing since she was young, shes learned to annunciate gracefully. Shes An incredible talent.

giardia | 2/4/2008, 5:29 pm EST

Absolutley, positively lip synched.
Does it matter that at least it was her own (very good, by the way) voice? Nope.
She did appear to be trying to make it seem real,I’ll gve her that.

McLuvin | 2/4/2008, 4:44 pm EST

Lip-synced…so sad! Whitney’s was not lip-synced. Not hating, just disappoitned. Would have loved to hear it live!

mikieBee | 2/4/2008, 2:41 pm EST

Previouse Post is correct, Most all SB anthems are lyp synced, Whitney, mariah, beyonce, ect.

At least at the SB, they are all pre recorded..sorry

Gina | 2/4/2008, 1:07 pm EST

Yes, she WAS lip-syncing. Anybody who thinks she’s not is ignorant to this kind of stuff, so it’s okay. Let me tell you how you can tell. It’s not the delay - it’s the fact that when her mouth moved away from the microphone, her voice stayed exactly the same. They did a good job trying to make it look like she wasn’t lip syncing, but you can’t fool me. Watch a live performance of her on American Idol and then watch the performance from the superbowl. It’s a no-brainer. She would have been EXTREMELY nervous and her voice would’ve quivered, even if only just a little, but it did not. It was right on with every single note, and that’s just not possible. Nobody’s tryin’ to hate, and I’m not saying that she sucks. I was just disappointed. When people sing live there’s something about the originality and the emotion behind the live version that I LIVE for. I was bummed. I did hear that she didn’t have a choice though and it wasn’t her fault.

Ok - I’m not jelous, and I’m not slamming her. It was a great performance.

But - it was lip synced.

National Anthems at the Super Bowl have been prerecorded since 1993, and many times before that too. It’s not something to be ashamed about - the producers and networks won’t have it any other way.
Check on Don Weiss’s book “The Making of the Super Bowl” Actually, It’s available online, find it on Google books and read page 204

No doubt about it, that was lip-synched. She didn’t “sell it” well enough. To get that tone and volume, she would have needed to sing OUT more, but she just lolly-gagged through it. Still great studio voice; and NO, not all National Anthems are lip-synched, even at the Super Bowl. Worst comment ever.

Viki | 2/4/2008, 9:25 am EST

You guys crying lip-sync are completely and utterly ignorant. The song is written with her voice in many different places at the same time. If you paid attention, she sang most of the song herself. Of course there was some pre-recorded bits, because the song is written with her singing several lines at once. But she sang the main lines of the song live, without a doubt.

anna | 2/4/2008, 1:40 am EST

alicia keys obviously lip synced the last song, “no one”. nobody could sing in concert and have each note and rift the exactly same as the recorded version of the song. and considering how hard she was panting and how much she danced…it was just not possible, plus a kid could tell that her lips weren’t moving exactly to the song

Jill | 2/3/2008, 11:01 pm EST

She was great. How many 17 or 18 year olders could present themselves like that.sing in front of millions, and hit every note. It was her voice and character that made the difference. Just think how she will sing by 30.

truthtells | 2/3/2008, 10:30 pm EST

Many of you appear to be jealous…she has phenomenal talent and despite your comments on her not being able to sing you are mistaken. Whether she sang live or previously recorded she CAN sing….like many recording artists today, there may be times when they sing some or all of it or use pre-recordings but to say she can’t sing is like so many others an attempt to tear down someone who has talent that you wish you had. Maybe if some of you were being paid to sing you all could talk/critique the performance, but OBVIOUSLY you are not…bottom line she is making a living in a profession none of us are in.

amanda | 2/3/2008, 10:07 pm EST

It is a great shame the girl obviously can’t sing! I would love it if all the crap would make way for some real talent, there were a couple of parts that you could so see her lips were not in match with the song, 1 part in particular at the end. Anyone can sound good after time in the studio, a real good artist can go out and do it without all the extra help. I would rather see someone make one bad note but be real, than lysync, but what elase can we expect after all the trash on the charts these days!

lipsync | 2/3/2008, 9:01 pm EST

oh, and billy joel’s was DEFINITELY NOT lipsyced..haha

lipsync | 2/3/2008, 8:58 pm EST

nope. not all super bowl national anthems are lipsyced.Faith Hill’s wasn’t

wouldntyouliketoknow | 2/3/2008, 8:38 pm EST

i want to see you sing. I know singing and that wasnt lip synced. But all you care about is putting people down. Get over yourselves and shut up

jcoop05 | 2/3/2008, 8:18 pm EST
