“aint nobody gang bangin in little rock no more. geez!”

really? the last time I checked, there were more gangs and gang-related crime than ever before in America.

Read a newspaper once in a while.

“I would argue that intellectual property is all in your head, we need to rethink the whole intellectual property system from the ground up.”

“I will respect copyright when my right to copy is respected.”

That was the “spacey philosophy” I was referring to.

I was referencing more than one writer in my post.

Bill Cosby is a generation late and unfornately has lost his mind (with all do respect, he is my hero)! gansta rap is passe and corny now. what is he talking about? he should have rode it out with Public Enemy and KRS back in the late 80s during the Stop the Violence movement. aint nobody gang bangin in little rock no more. geez!

rappers today are chasin and glorifying prosperity not destruction! they got the message.

Gansta rap was a GROSSLY TWISTED and FALSE representation of what hip hop really is and was. It celebrates human life, not death. And I am glad that bullshit phase is OVER.

come on, bill, you know that.

Re: Johnny Kickass & Rocket Reducer’s posts

I do stand corrected; After looking it up I found out that it is indeed illegal to make copies of copyrighter cd’s, but one should at least give thought to the fact that it appears more acceptable than ripping them offline. Why isn’t the RIAA all over the manufacturers of PCs and cd burning systems that allow the capabilities of duplicating copy-righted cd’s? Why are these people and their consumers not getting prosecuted as severely as those who are getting fines for downloading songs off of P2P sites & software, if at all (we could also include manufacturers of tape recorders)? If the laws of prohibiting pirating have been on the books for 50 years, they certainly haven’t been enforced like they should have been- so much so where it could lead one to believe (for example, myself) that certain mediums are legal while others are not.

Furthermore, I don’t know if you should consider my previous post as a philosophy (’spacey’ or not). It was merely a question.

[the other news is irrelevant, yo]

“I still can’t understand why its not ok to rip music online, yet its still prefectly legal and acceptable to borrow a cd from someone and copy it for yourself.”

No, it’s not perfectly legal to copy a CD or DVD from someone else. It’s perfectly illegal! Just like borrowing someone’s vinyl and recording it on cassette was illegal in the 70’s. I don’t know where you get your concepts from, man. Maybe instead of using the web to make uinformed comments, maybe you should do a little research!

And a CD is not your “intellectual property”! It’s the property of the artist and the label. Just because you own a copy doesn’t mean you now have ownership of publishing rights or distribution authority!

The laws probhibiting pirating have been on the books for over 50 years. Some of you need to take your spacey philosophies and match them against laws and reality!

Johnny Kickass | 1/31/2008, 5:15 pm EST

Los: Ripping a cd for your friend is technically illegal.

Bjork: Just because you bought a cd or dvd doesn’t give you the right to post it online so thousands of people can download it. I’m not sure what you’re talking about exactly. Your last line is like saying ‘I will respect the law when my right to break it is respected’. It’s asinine.

Los | 1/31/2008, 4:34 pm EST

I still can’t understand why its not ok to rip music online, yet its still prefectly legal and acceptable to borrow a cd from someone and copy it for yourself. One way or another, you’re still getting music for free. Is it really the distribution of free music that determines the ethics?

rockstarr26 | 1/31/2008, 4:18 pm EST

new or old, new jay z is always welcome…but the coz? i don’t see myself watchin a million youtube videos of kids at home crankin dat huxtable…
then again…stranger things have happened.

TheBjork | 1/31/2008, 3:44 pm EST

Johnny Kickass: So, if I buy a dvd or a cd I can’t do what I want with it? Technically, following your rhetoric, my property right would be infringed by NOT being allowed full access to the product I’ve purchased. I would argue that intellectual property is all in your head, we need to rethink the whole intellectual property system from the ground up.

I will respect copyright when my right to copy is respected.

Johnny Kickass | 1/31/2008, 3:24 pm EST

God, it’s about time those assholes at Pirate Bay were prosecuted. What took so long?

Their ‘oh, we just provide links, not content!’ excuse is so weak…there’s got to be some way for them to be prosecuted from profiting on the assistance of theft of hundred of millions of dollars of intellectual property.

Remember, copyright is a property right, which is a basic, fundamental human right. It deserves to be taken seriously.

These assholes being thrown in jail will be a true triumph for justice.

Aj | 1/31/2008, 3:18 pm EST
