Jimmy Page: “Zep Tour Would Happen Later This Year”

1/28/08, 10:23 am EST

Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page announced at a press conference early this morning in Tokyo that if the band were to reunite for a large-scale tour, it wouldn’t happen until at least September. Page, who was in Japan promoting Mothership, cited previous commitments, most notably Robert Plant’s joint tour with Alison Krauss, as the main stalling point, saying, “Robert Plant also had a parallel project running and he’s really busy with that project, certainly until September, so I can’t give you any news.” The news rubbishes all those “Led Zeppelin headlining Bonnaroo” rumors, as well as the claims made by the Cult’s Ian Astbury, who told a Cincinnati crowd his band would open for Zeppelin during their reunion tour. Zep’s Robert Plant, who attended the New York Knicks game Friday night and was interviewed at halftime by MSG TV, said of Led Zeppelin possibly getting back together, “You never know what is around the corner.”

Why Led Zeppelin would waste their fans valuable time by having such hardcore posers as The Cult open up for them is beyond me. How about The Black Keys…now there is some real credibility.

geritol rock | 1/28/2008, 10:56 am EST

,,now thats funny,,,,hardcore posers opening up for the worlds ultimate posers! Gotta love Zep, but these guys wrote the book on being pompous (sp?).

Tom | 1/28/2008, 11:02 am EST

if the white stripes don’t open for led zeppelin it will be a huge mistake. Let Jimmy Page pass the baton to Jack officially. (Since they keep appearing on the cover of magazines together)

Let’s get going here Jack & Page

Flippity Floop Side | 1/28/2008, 12:21 pm EST

It’s only posing if you can’t back it up, which Led Zep can, but unfortuenately The Cult can’t

ITTOD | 1/28/2008, 12:24 pm EST

There will be no opening acts IF Led Zeppelin does decide to tour. They simply don’t need an opening act, their shows are plenty long without some lame band ruining things like sweating all over the stage!

geritol rock | 1/28/2008, 12:44 pm EST

flippity flop has a point, but only takes it half way. zep is capable “backing it up”, but it is still the same old schtick…….bloated overblown dinasour (sp?) rock,,,,,,,snore, cough, gag.

James | 1/28/2008, 12:55 pm EST

Just want to see Zep…I don’t care who opens…

Anonymous | 1/28/2008, 2:14 pm EST

Zeppelin sucks

htwngrl | 1/28/2008, 2:28 pm EST

Quit jacking us around and please just make an official announcement. Quit teasing….it’s killing us! Loved you since the 70’s. I listen to xm-led all the time. Hard core fan here from Houston. Bring it on.

Moses | 1/28/2008, 2:40 pm EST

Too old.

frusciante | 1/28/2008, 3:38 pm EST

please tour for all the kids who weren’t even alive to see you guys almost 40 years ago!!!

O' Jack | 1/28/2008, 3:53 pm EST

Just wait till this fall Zep Fans! In Oct, you’ll see a few shows scheduled for NYC, one in the mid-west, LA and maybe Tampa. In Canada, you’ll see two shows, one in Toronto and Montreal’s Big O. But first, Zep will tour the UK and parts of Europe including Germany, France and perhaps ending in Denmark sometime in mid December. Also, there’s talk about playing down under for two shows and one in Japan for March/April 09. Mark my words down everyone..cause you heard it first from O’ Jack.

TEA FOR ONE | 1/28/2008, 5:01 pm EST

In the meantime how about live releases? You got the Earls,Knebworth,Dallas,Albert Hall. Hey John Paul how bout the Scream for help soundtrack

DT | 1/28/2008, 5:15 pm EST

Judging from the youtube clips I saw, Zep can still pull it off. they still have the mojo. Sure, the decision to actually tour is based on $, but the way they rocked Kashmir and whole lotta love, you can tell the cash wouldn’t convince them without it feeling good on stage. Zep are not Posuers, they are what the poseurs of the 80’s were trying in vain to immitate.

Amy | 1/28/2008, 5:18 pm EST

That picture is so perfect. Cruel, but amusing. You are so coy, Jimmy.

T | 1/28/2008, 5:31 pm EST

well at least there was one major summer tour / double bill announced today: Tom Petty and Steve Winwood

May someone forcefully insert your magic 8 ball in your anus!!!

L | 1/28/2008, 8:26 pm EST

I’ll wait patiently… not.

Georgia | 1/29/2008, 6:44 am EST

there is always an opening act, the black keys are good, but a jack white solo opening act would be fantastic

HabaQuaba | 1/29/2008, 9:48 am EST

Why not The Mars Volta as an opening act? Omar can shred. I ache for a Zeppelin tour.

Yoko Kurama | 1/29/2008, 3:49 pm EST

Zeppelin didn’t need an opening act in their prime, what makes any of you think that they should need one now?

Old Blue | 1/29/2008, 6:08 pm EST

Page is starting to come off as rather pathetic. I loved Zep in their time, but it seems as though Jimmy has nothing to offer except for his old LZ licks. At least Plant has moved on into other musical territories to explore successfully. Jimmy Page has offered his fans absolutely nothing since Bonham died, except for re-mastered music.

Stillson Wrench | 1/29/2008, 6:49 pm EST

Jimmy Page owes no one anything. He’s still one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and was an absolute genius in the 70’s. I would KILL for tickets to a Zeppelin reunion.

evey | 1/30/2008, 3:07 pm EST

a led zeppelin tour would be great, their a legendary band and they would have a great success as they did all those years however, i think that a band should announce a tour only when it’s ready to go.any way good luck led zeppelin!

Robyn | 1/30/2008, 5:10 pm EST

Oh yea you need to cut your hair and loose the makeup get real!

Ian Ass-Berry | 2/1/2008, 9:25 pm EST

I don’t care if Plant sounds like a barking seal trying to sing the Zep catalog, I’d still step on my mothers skull to see them!

lalala | 2/1/2008, 10:47 pm EST

I love Led Zeppelin. It’s always been about the music. They’re not too old to play, they’re brilliant, and will leave a legacy no one will fill.
I would love to see White Stripes open for them. Jack will show the appropriate respect.
I love their (Jimmy and Robert’s)pomposity. They deserve it.

Zepp pulled it off brilliantly in December. I have been waiting for this ..i was waiting for the American tour they were planning just before John Bonham died. I see a few comments here from those who dont like Zepp and thats fine, there is always bubblegum pop you can go see or listen too, or someone screaming something unintelligibly into a mic.

Pat Akers | 2/2/2008, 9:03 am EST

Led Zeppelin is the ultimate. I grew up with his music. His music was the first to go in my media on the computer. I have a daughter 23 that is crazy about him too, since she heard me playing it and rocking and rolling. Of course she is the baby, I have a 36 year old that is into the country music, but hey if you want to hear music with a lyric play Zeppelin!

chad | 2/2/2008, 9:34 am EST

they’re great and i love ‘em. but i’m not jumping up and down with excitement.

old zep fan | 2/2/2008, 11:29 am EST

the white stripes, a goth brother and sister, drums and 1 guitar, what is this shit,i feel sorry for your generation, you’re music is garbage, you listen to rap music which is crap. grabbing your crotch and ryming words to an moron playing a album back and forth, what the hell is that. i grew up on the BEATLES,ZEP,FLOYD,TULL,YES,KAN SAS,CSNY,CREAM, fucking CREAM, all of you take a gun and shoot yourself, please don’t have children

krizsn | 2/2/2008, 6:39 pm EST

I’m too young to have ever seen the greatest band in the history of rock in their early days, so even seeing them now would be a dream come true for me! I really hope that they go on tour. Their deep lyrics, amazing talent and instrumentals inspire me everyday.

Brian | 2/3/2008, 7:40 pm EST

One good reason why Zep should stay retired: Don’t tarnish the image. (Cough…the Police). One reason they wont stay retired: MONEY

Long time Zep fan | 2/12/2008, 8:17 pm EST

Just name the place, the time and I will be there all the way!!!!

Rich | 2/27/2008, 2:06 pm EST

You know nothing about Jimmy,Robert, JPJ or Zep if yuo think they would do it for money! they don’t need the money!!!! they all have more money than god, thanx to never selling out their music and a great manager!I have a boot DVD of the show, they sound better than they did in 77. if you don’t like Zep, you know nothing about rock music. i also agree, todays music sucks, has sucked since the 80, the only thing good was grunge and U2 the rest is garbage!

jacob kohl | 3/18/2008, 8:42 pm EST

i agree with everyone else on the subject of jack white opening. rather just him, i wouldn’t mind seeing an elaborate set from the white stripes. but yeah, what tom said, let page officially pass the torch down to jack. jack is the only person in the music industry right now that has the right mindset to save it.

Black and White | 3/19/2008, 1:29 am EST

Why not have Jack Black opening instead of Jack White? Better yet, both of them together!

To get psyched, watch Jackie Brown before the show with my friends, Jack Green and Jack Gray. Then go jack off.

I love Zep, but I’m not sure the likely ticket prices would be worth it.

Mark | 3/26/2008, 7:16 pm EST

I live near Rob Plant in kidderminster, uk.He says he does not want the carnival that went along with the original line up and that the musical direction would be lost. Its sad, I love them and always will, never got to see them live as Zeppelin, but you can see why and the mystic will always keep them alive.Seen him loads of times including local inpromtue gigs in local pubs.It was a creative time in a certain era, just look at what Plant has achieved in the years since Zepp and what he could do.He gets inspired by trying out new approaches to different styles, and musicians, would he still be able to do that in the confineds of a group?I tried like crazy to see the O2 gig and was really mad I couldn`t get in for the celebrties and hangers on.I would love to see a one off for memories sake…..but maybe, “thats way it should stay”

jake | 5/28/2008, 9:40 pm EST

im too young to have ever seen led zep at 15 but if they tour ill do anything to get tickets

Like Led Zeppelin | 7/14/2008, 3:14 am EST

Dude i’m 15 years old and a tour would be so great it’s my dream to see them live last year i coud’lnt get tickets oh god i hope they tour.

Gary Young | 8/25/2008, 3:05 am EST

“WHOLE LOTTA LOVE” at Beijing closing ceremonies shows to the world Jimmy is back!! Just don’t press the man all you’ll have to wait till Robert Plant is done his duo gigs. Not getting greedy here now for the guys at Rolling Stone to help support a East Coast show between NYC and Philadelphia in Jersey. Jersey is a logical choice in Holmdel PNC Bank Arts Center, just off the NJ Turnpike. Next I can’t imagine too rigorous of a tour being we like to see them finish in one piece out of the O.R.
With that thought I hope they tell the world to “EAT LIVE & THINK GREEN” The British will take the lead for planet earth…
