“Fight the Power-Public Enemy-Do the Right Thing

A little dramatic. Also kinda pushy too. To some, perhaps rude.

Anyhow . . .

Red Rider “Lunatic Fringe” Vision Quest

Let’s deal with The Big Chill. Here was a movie about selfish rich yuppies (VERY 80s) who used to be selfish idealistic poor hippies.

It has several “iconic” songs (in other words, senile baby boomers still play those eight-tracks). Anyone between the ages of 13-19 hated it and their parents loved it.

I make a special motion that The Big Chill and it’s soundtrack be stricken from consideration.

I love the cheesy “You’re the best around” from Karate Kid! That is the epitome of 1980’s themes, and nobody else can put me down! I’m glad it got a spot. It’s one of the cheesiest songs from the 80’s.

St. Elmo’s Fire needs to get some consideration as does, “say you Say Me” from White Nights.

Finally (although there’s many others). Let’s hear it for the Boy from Footloose totally reminds me of my next door neighbors mom and all the times we were in their station wagon.

Natam | 1/26/2008, 12:02 pm EST

Stevie Wonder’s I Just Called to Say I Love You from The Lady In Red, Best cheesy-yet-still- romantic song of the 80’s.

“Living in America” – James Brown, Rocky IV

“Holiday Road” – Lindsey Buckingham, National Lampoon’s Vacation

“Purple Rain,” – Prince, Purple Rain

“Back in Time” – Huey Lewis and the News, Back to the Future

“I’m Alright,” Kenny Loggins, Caddyshack

“Take My Breath Away,” Berlin, Top Gun

Finally, a point of order – Terminator 2 was 1991, so “You Could Be Mine” is ineligible

Fight The Power!!!-Public Enemy, from Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing”
