Slash Says Stone Temple Pilots to Reunite

1/25/08, 4:01 pm EST

Stone Temple Pilots will reunite this summer, according to Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash. The top-hatted axeman told Billboard that VR lead singer Scott Weiland will rejoin with his former bandmates, two-thirds of whom have most recently been teaming up with Filter’s Richard Patrick in the band Army of Anyone, for a handful of concerts to take place this summer. Slash’s comments echoed the quotes Weiland gave to the Miami Herald earlier this week, alerting fans they should be “on the lookout for an STP reunion in the coming months.” Velvet Revolver is currently touring in support of their second album Libertad, with songs by Stone Temple Pilots and Guns n’ Roses also featured in the set list. STP broke up in 2002 following the release of their fifth album Shangri-La Dee Da.

Scott Weiland in any condition-high, depressed, strung out-could still capably lead The STPs. Do it, do it, do it!

Oh yeah, RS, your site is really fucked up. Half the pages-new and recent-are not coming up. You wind up with just white pages with nothing written on them. Just thought I’d let you know!

For those of you who havent seen them play live, i suggest you look out for these dates that pop up during the summer.

Happiness, STP is one of the most underrated bands of the 90s. I hope they come to Detroit..if not I guess I am going to have to travel elsewhere. Thanks Weiland and Co. I can’t take anymore of this Fall out boy/Nickleback every other song….it is the worst music of all time.

rockero | 1/25/2008, 10:40 pm EST

stp were nickleback before nickleback were cool. let’s pray for a double bill. please kami-sama, please!

Flig Nawton | 1/26/2008, 9:24 am EST

Velvet Revolver was a neat idea, but it was no STP. Or GnR for that matter. Bring back the 3-letter bands!

Hold the BTO, please.

rudeness | 1/26/2008, 10:50 am EST

how dare you even put nickleback in the same sentence as stp..nickleback has to be one of the worst bands in the history of bands..right next to creed!!!1

Tim | 1/26/2008, 12:05 pm EST

I’m not a nickleback fan, but I personally get sick of people who jump on the “this is the band that is cool to hate” bandwagon. You all are a bunch of posers. Worst band of all time? Hardly. Nickleback and Creed are nothing more than, at worst, bands leftover from the 90’s grunge movement. So what’s wrong with that? I can’t wait until RS finally tells us that it’s cool to hate crappy hip hop! Shut up posers and start thinking for yourselves!

Btw, Nickleback and STP couldn’t be more far apart in their style. Good grief.

nathan | 1/26/2008, 1:17 pm EST

Nickelback is the worst band in the whole world. They actually have a class of 3rd graders write the lyrics to their albums. “I looked at your photograph, and it really makes me laugh

Nathan | 1/26/2008, 3:24 pm EST

Said it best…..

Jcon | 1/26/2008, 4:10 pm EST

What the hell is wrong with Creed? They put out 3 albums and each one is phenominal. They’re songs aren’t immitations of Pearl Jam and are one of the best bands of the late 90’s, early 00’s… but anyway id love to see and STP show

Cheesecrop | 1/26/2008, 5:46 pm EST

If Weiland splits VR maybe they’ll get Chris Cornell to fill in. We’d have STP and the closest thing to GNR, cause it don’t look like Axl’s in the cards anytime soon.

Cheesecrop | 1/26/2008, 5:49 pm EST

If Weiland splits VR maybe they’ll bring in Chris Cornell. We’d get STP and the closest thing to GNR out of the deal.

boatman | 1/26/2008, 5:55 pm EST

Creed is for deluded Christians but I don’t understand the appeal of Nickelback. STP was always cooler than that.

Consumer Guide Reviews:
Core [Atlantic, 1993]
Once you learn to tell them from the Stoned Tempo Pirates, the Stolen Pesto Pinenuts, the Gray-Templed Prelates, Temple of the Dog, Pearl Jam, and Wishbone Ash, you may decide they’re a halfway decent hard rock act. Unfortunately, sometime after they’ve set you up with their best power chords, you figure out the title is “Sex Type Thing” because it’s attached to a rape threat. They claim this was intended as a critique, kind of like “Naked Sunday”’s sarcastic handshake with authority. But at best that means they should reconceive their aesthetic strategy–critiquewise, irony has no teeth when the will to sexual power still powers your power chords. And if it’s merely the excuse MTV fans have reason to suspect, the whole band should catch AIDS and die. B-

A third rate Pearl Jam imitation.
And Pearl Jam was a second rate Nirvana imitation.
Two plus three equals fifth rate crappy imitation……..

pistolpete | 1/27/2008, 10:42 am EST

Scott Weiland is really weird on stage when I saw him with STP in 2000. Weiland has sit still and sing, rather dancing around like a freak. He has a good voice.

likroper.com | 1/27/2008, 4:25 pm EST

the STP reunion was inevitable – i kind of expected it…

SuperSOUP | 1/27/2008, 7:24 pm EST

…looking forward to the official announcement of the STP reunion!!! VR is ‘aight, but STP is boss.

paul | 1/27/2008, 10:12 pm EST

a first rate bowie imitation. they were a great band

Pimp Steaks | 1/27/2008, 11:06 pm EST

They were a godawful band, maybe the worst of the 90’s.

slayer rulezzzzzz | 1/28/2008, 7:44 am EST

stp was the biggest soundgarden, alice in chains,& pearl jam copy cat band!!! scott needs to leave his shirt on when he performs. who wants to see all of his organs through his heroin-riden body!!!

Harry | 1/28/2008, 8:43 am EST

And tens of people finally believe that dreams, really do come true…

Weiland Hater | 1/28/2008, 1:03 pm EST

It’s funny what a person will do when the “supergroup” they joined never quite measures up to the original bands they’re from. VR don’t sound or look good togethe. Out of his drug induced haze, $cott Weiland understands the almighty dollar.

Garry Glitter's Chest Wig | 1/28/2008, 8:08 pm EST

In the 90’s with STP Weiland thought he was Eddie Vedder, when he was actually more like Vanilla Ice.
Now with VR he thinks he’s Iggy Pop……….when he’s actually more like Garry Glitter….

ol jim | 1/29/2008, 12:37 am EST

Tiny music is a great cd and sounds nothing like any other grunge band…and I didn’t know one band gets claim to an entire genre. I understand they ripped off the popularity of the moment but I don’t think nirvana and pearl jam are necessarily poor choices to emulate your sound after.

Brian | 1/29/2008, 2:16 am EST

Shangri La De Da was an awesome album and these guys were far better perceived as all of their contemporaries began to die/quit.

It is silly to hate a band like this because they have never had such an overbaring presense that you couldn’t ingore them if you wanted to. If you really hate them, well, then just leave their fans alone. If you take enough time to read an article about Scott Weiland rejoining then you have interest too and give yourself 10 lashes if it is the only way to atone for the sin of feeling curious about this musically diverse band.

Yeah, I’m a STP lifer.

Buster Bunny | 1/29/2008, 10:45 am EST

Gotta have big huevos to admit you have terrible taste in music………

frances w | 1/29/2008, 1:14 pm EST

how on earth did god awful creed and the not worth a penny nickleback come up in this topic of “discussion”? Those two groups of freaks are NO comparision to STP. STOP HATIN! STP is the shit and everyone knows it (whether they want to admit it is another story). Cant wait till they tour again!!! That STD’s comment was funny tho. I’ll give you haters that much.

nickelbackhater | 1/31/2008, 11:34 pm EST

Tim is a poser.

nickelbackhater | 1/31/2008, 11:36 pm EST

Oh, and only on RollingStone.com would you find someone actually uttering the phrase: “What the hell is wrong with Creed.”

missygirl | 2/1/2008, 6:43 pm EST

anyone who says STP is a terrible band has no clue at all about what it takes to rock and really isn’t NOT needed at the show. leave the tickets for those of us who are dying to see them… and by the way scott weiland is mad hot.. obviously… if you don’t like STP you like surface cut, cliche rock and roll.

Kylepacino | 2/13/2008, 12:07 pm EST

I agree with MISSYGIRL by saying that anyone who says STP sucks doesn’t understand Rock N Roll. Unfairly cast as a PJ copycat band, STP fully blossomed into an amazingly original sounding band over their next few releases. The DeLeo Brothers can create more interesting textures and unique chord changes than many of their peers can with more instruments on stage. The STP chemistry can not be replicated (i.e. look a the members new projects), so go back and spend some time listening besides just watching “Plush” on Youtube. Respect is due…

Bobby Smash | 2/15/2008, 1:28 pm EST

yes enought of the teenage bs music Fall out boy (wanna be punk) but not even close to true punk like Pennywise, and NOFX. Nickle Crap is tired and boring they had an insteresting sound when they first came out in Canada but now every song sounds the same. I Love STP and GNR. I though when VR came out it would be the best of both worlds and I was right nothing better then hearing a Slash SOLO on Crackerman

teenspirit0003 | 3/18/2008, 7:02 pm EST

huh. i kinda liked velvet revolver. i was the best of both worlds kinda. like, it’d be cool if STPs got back together, but it’d be cool if the new GNR didnt suck too, so, let’s just go back to our normal bands, and both of them can play vr songs.

or, everything can stay the way it is now.

and scott, keep your shirt on when you’re singing please, you’re too skinny

Trevor | 4/13/2008, 8:42 pm EST

So what’s to become of whats left of VR? New front man? Closing up shop? Whats axeman Slash gonna do? Wait on GNR to get the ball rolling? Inquiring minds want to know….

sxi me | 4/16/2008, 7:37 pm EST
