Hey they forgot to mention Hush Sound is also opening for PATD! You have to mention them! I can’t wait to see all 4 bands at the Honda Civic Tour on June 4!:)

I’m not a HUGE fan, Blind Melon easily ranks in my top 10. Saw the show last night and heard an interview with the new lead singer that morning. Talk about dreams coming true. The guy idolized Shannon so much he had his face tatooed on his back a dozen years ago and here he is lead singer of his favorite band, replacing his idol, I definitely went in with an open mind and was by no means disappointed. The spin on “No Rain” was awesome! The band was ALIVE and sounded great. Make the trip and go see these guys, we owe it to them.

Oh hell yes!!! Of course I was skeptical about Blind Melon without Shannon Hoon, as would be anyone who liked the music they produced when he filled such an obviously essential role in the creation of that music. But skepticism is just pigheadedness if you’re not willing to at least consider whatever it is you’re skeptical about. So, I followed the link* mentioned in the comment by funnyface421 and listened to the band with their new singer….

Blind Melon really is back!

(*The http address shown is basically correct, but only part of it is coded as a link so clicking on it results in a page not found error. However, cutting and pasting the entire like into IE’s address bar will also result in a page not found error. I was finally able to hear the music by first going to tela.sugarmegs.org/_asxtela/ then scrolling down to the proper link. It might also help to know that when you click that link your media player application will launch and open a 9 second audio file, be patient and after a moment it will finally play the desired audio which in this case is a 79 minute long performance with the new singer. There’s also a lot of other really groovy content on that site. Nice post, funnyface421. Thanks!)

Blind Melon is my favorite band, but I had only just barely heard of them before Shannon died. I’ve always been disappointed that I never got a chance to say goodb….. er, uh,…. I mean, that I never got to see them in concert. I still might not get to because they neglected to schedule a gig in- or anywhere near- where I live in Salt Lake City. But I’m mighty pleased that they’re performing again, and I suspect that sooner or later most skeptics will come to accept the new guy not necessarily as Shannon’s replacement, but as someone who rightfully occupies that role. They might even grow to like him.

I saw them twice last year and they blew me away. I thought Travis was unreal. Shannon was a great frontman and will always be missed. Good luck to these guys they deserve it. I downloaded the new unmastered copy of the new album and I thought it was great. I will def. get a copy when it comes out.

Blind Melon is back and better than ever!!! “Sometimes is better than nothing.” And this is that sometimes. A tribute to the old and new!!! Shannon will forever be remembered and I’m sure he is looking down on his old bandmates and cheering them on. Go check out the band on tour and you won’t regret it. Also the new album “For My Friends” is out April 22nd!!! Last but not least a book is due out in the near future to commemorate the band’s first run with Shannon Hoon. Blind Melon continues…To honor the past, celebrate the future, and most importantly to enjoy the love of music!!!

P.S. As for bands keeping the same name, I am a big fan of ACDC and Van Halen!!!

I wish all those who have any questions about the validity of the “new” (if you can call 4/5 of the original band new) Blind Melon to go out and see the show. Travis is a talented singer who deserves a fair shot. Go out and hear them and then form an opinion. No one can replace Shannon, Travis will be the first to tell you that.

Check ‘em out live or pick up the new album due out on 4/22. You will not be sorry.

carolyn | 2/1/2008, 6:53 pm EST

Once you hear the new tunes you will understand. Blind Melon is back and paying tribute to Shannon with every note!!

Trip | 2/1/2008, 5:21 pm EST

Go to a show…..
listen to the album when it comes out April 22nd.
Come back, and start making sense.
They are do’n it cause they are lovers of music, no other reason. & what other reason should there be, really.

These guys are incredible musicians, and the MOST personable people you’d ever meet!
They’ll treat you better than you own friends.

be well

melonhead | 2/1/2008, 2:17 pm EST

Blind Melon all the way!!!!!!!!! Old and new! but Shannon will always be the most special one:)

Rebekah | 2/1/2008, 10:14 am EST

Blind Melon is awesome. Shannon is missed dearly. What counts is that Travis honors Shannon at every show and and they are having fun doing what they are doing I think it’s great.

funnyface421 | 2/1/2008, 9:59 am EST

Dont knock it until you try it

Here is a Blind Melon show with Travis on vocals from 10-16-2007

http://tela.sugarm egs.org/_asxtela/BlindMelon200 7-10-16ChicagoIL.asx

In fact both Nel Hoon (Shannon’s mom) and Nico Hoon (Shannon’s daughter) were at this show.

Nico came up on stage and sang too

Blind Melon is back. I am so serious. These nasty comments are worthless. Many fans have been skeptical about having a new singer but after seeing the band live they change their minds. I too was in denial when I first heard the news last year, but after hearing Travis Warren it put my worries to rest. He is an amazing and talented vocalist. I have seen the band live 4 times now and each show keeps getting better. It is STILL Blind Melon. Shannon Hoon is loved and miss throughout the community but fans of Blind Melon loved the entire band, not just the front man. It would be a shame to let the perfect blend of these musicians go to waste because sadly they had lost Shannon, he is gone but not forgotten and at every show Travis has made a tribute to his memory. So stop the uglyness. Its all about the music.

marc | 1/31/2008, 6:55 pm EST

“And when they do “Tones of Home” they’re going to open up his casket and put a microphone on his skeleton hand to make it look like he’s singing from the dead! Damn, can’t wait to see them live!”

ha ha ha ha . . . dick!

GOOBER | 1/25/2008, 3:14 pm EST

There’s a rumor going around that Shannon hoon is going to be making guest appearances at those Blind Melon shows. The remaining band members are going to dig up his casket and prop it up on stage during their performances to make it a real reunion. And when they do “Tones of Home” they’re going to open up his casket and put a microphone on his skeleton hand to make it look like he’s singing from the dead! Damn, can’t wait to see them live!

Rocket Reducer No. 62 | 1/25/2008, 1:36 pm EST

Bullshit, Oddjob’s from Canada!

Hey man, you shouldn’t be able to make up psychotic bullshit stories for attention. That’s fucked.

Metal Shawn G | 1/25/2008, 9:40 am EST

Yeah, Alice in Chains’ music is about as putrid as Layne Staley’s dead corpse!

Foxy Lady | 1/25/2008, 9:37 am EST

Alice In Chains . . . VOMIT!!!

Oddjob | 1/25/2008, 9:31 am EST

I too am from Indiana and I can say that not all ‘folk’ in Indiana agree- I love Blind Melon and Shannon Hoon- have even attended his vigil service-but the band is extremely talented as well- always were. I think too many people get caught up in the lead singer and glorify him to an extent that the band is left in the background. If you truely appreciate music then you realize the talent and importance of the entire band. Yes, Shannon hoon can’t be replaced, but come on the rest of the band had a huge hand in every song they did. And you know Shannon would want them to continue creating music for the people.

norm | 1/25/2008, 8:40 am EST

You can’t fault the guys for wanting to make a living. Drugs took the life of their singer, it shouldn’t take theirs with it. Alice in Chains came to the same conclusion and I don’t fault them either (and they were 10x the band that Blind Melon was/is).

indianabo | 1/25/2008, 7:01 am EST

C’MON, NO OFFENSE GUYS, BUT CAN THE BAND EVEN BE CALLED BLIND MELON WITHOUT SHANNON HOON? US FOLK HERE IN INDIANA THINK NOT….DEFINITELY NOT.
