What It Is: The world’s smallest 32-gigabyte media player (so far), which means this little credit-card-sized device can play up to 120 hours of video or about 8,000 songs (you can even add up to 8 gigabytes to that, thanks to an included SDHC memory-card-slot).
Who It’s For: Anyone who wants the kind of space offered by bigger hard-drive-based players like the iPod in a Nano-sized package.
Why It’s Worthy: Despite its small size, the Zen still manages to fit in a 2.5-inch LCD screen, making video viewing slightly more pleasurable than on the Nano’s 2-inch screen. Instead of a hard drive, the Zen uses Flash memory, which has no moving parts, uses less energy (translation: longer battery life) and is more durable and shock-proof. It’s ideal for anyone who isn’t part of the iTunes eco-system, since it works with all subscription music services (Napster, Rhapsody, etc.) and video services (Amazon Unbox, Tivo-to-Go).
Our Only Complaint: Sometimes the software is a little glitchy and slow to respond, and the overall aesthetic is a bit generic and cheap-looking.
