
- Jonny Greenwood’s score for There Will Be Blood was shut out of Oscar consideration after the Academy ruled it fell under the heading of “scores diluted by the use of tracked themes or other pre-existing music,” Variety reports. Into the Wild was also ruled ineligible due to “predominant use of songs.” Check back later today for more on the Oscar nominations.
- The Rolling Stones are reportedly in talks to sell the rights to their back catalogue to Warner Bros. Records. This follows last week’s announcement that the Stones will release the soundtrack to Shine a Light via a one-album deal with Universal.
- Soccer star David Beckham will reportedly lend his voice to a Snoop Dogg track. According to British papers, Snoop has already discussed various business ventures (including a line of slippers) with Beckham.
- Scott Weiland told the Miami Herald he predicted Stone Temple Pilots reunion will happen “in the coming months,” but was absent from a performance with Velvet Revolver at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend. His bandmates asked the crowd for help on vocals.
- The RIAA website was hacked over the weekend, and all of its content was removed. The organization replaced most of the blank pages shortly after the discovery, and no comment has been made.
