I feel very sad that a great talent has been lost, but more that he did not get a second chance. I saw a sadness in his eyes, and I wish that he could of lived to a ripe old age with love and happiness. Rest with the angels dear prince.

Andy Warhol once said something about criticism. He said (paraphrased) to pay no attention to critical reviews… just measure it in inches. In other words, it doesn’t matter if people approve or disapprove of your work, what matters is if you got people thinking and talking about your work. If people have a lot to say about what you’ve done, then you must have done something right. Then you know you are artist. Heath always seemed to second guess himself and his work as an artist (which is not uncommon because there is no such thing as perfection in art). But it is my opinion that most of Heath’s work has gotten people talking… as well as his death. So there is no doubt in my mind that Heath was a true artist. Everybody dies, young and old, it is a part of life. I just hope that Heath had at least some personal satisfaction with the work he has done while he was alive.

It is not how long you live, but how you live this life that really counts!Heath has left something behind to be remembered for.And I pray he also had something to present to the ONE he was going to. For God to deal with his journey… it says a lot.

after viewing BM on dvd i can see the emotion and passion in each look and expression and truly moved me. Heath will always be a memory of love and respect from the gay world for having taking the chance with BM and being a beacon of light for our community. rest in peace dear friend.

He struck me as being a real sensitive cat, who was about THE EXPRESSION not about the Superstar bullshit.

I think he might’ve turned into greatness, but now we’ll never know. He left enough behind to let us know that he wanted to make something that would last. It’s up to us to keep his memory alive.

It’s so fucked to me to see Britney prance around with a purple wig, with a phony British accent while she parties with and fucks papprazzi, and Winehouse smoking crack and voluntarily allowing it to be videotaped.

Not fair. Not right. Not just.

I’d like to fix a small typo, if you don’t mind. It’s small but significant. I’ll capitalize the correction. I hope you’ll indulge me. Thanks, MSG

    RIP Heath.

This fucking sucks. He was an amazing actor and had the potential to become a truly great actor alomg the lines of Johnny Depp. His performance as the Joker looks to be fantastic. Who else do you know that would be able to give fantastic preformances in both a movie like Brokback and a batman movie. He will truly be missed

Like James Dean, Heath now belongs to a list, now far too long, of extraordinary talents who left this world too soon. But before we dwell too long on his gift of acting, let us remember that he would have given it all up for his family. He was someone who wanted to go to work and then come home and play with the kiddies; tonight we’re left with an incredible hole to fill in the world of movies, but also tonight ms. williams is without her love and heath’s daughter is without her father; the two conditions don’t compare. All of my sympathies to the family.

I am really shocked…I can’t believe the guy I loved in 10 things I hate about you, the patriot, monster’s ball, and Brokeback Mountain is dead…he is really dead…

this is really sad, he died too young, way too young…he had so much more to give…..

    patricia | 1/22/2008, 8:56 pm EST

    so sad
    so young too
had his whole life to acomplish so much
    he was a good actor
i was (still am) looking forward to seeing him in Dark Knight this summer
    it’s a damn shame
    RIP

    TheProfessor | 1/22/2008, 7:49 pm EST

Too young …too soon. Neil Young said it…”It’s better to burn out, than to fade away.” I don’t think he meant it this way. RIP Dude.

it sucks. he was just coming into his own as one of the greats.

    Kevin/Oklahoma | 1/22/2008, 7:26 pm EST

I can’t seem to find anywhere to discuss Heath Ledger’s death. It is so sad. I am so sad. I was not as much a fan of Brokeback Mountain as others. I am gay and somehow it didn’t blow me away like I hoped, but I appreciated it more when I saw it on DVD. But I had great admiration for the performances and am moved now as I consider this great actor who just disappeared into his roles. He took a chance in playing Ennis and helped perhaps advance equality for gays and lesbians a bit with his human potrayal of this wounded man. I had forgotten he was in Monster’s Ball and I’m Not There. He was that good. He became these people. I don’t know why I am so sad. Maybe it is because I am a mental health professional and hate to see a promising life end so young. Maybe it is because he took his talent with him and except for his finished films, we will never experience it again. Maybe it is in part gratitude to him for making the world a little safer for people like me. It is all these things.

    Mike/Houston,TX. | 1/22/2008, 6:12 pm EST

Damn. Ledger is probably the most interesting and captivating actor to grace a movie screen in ages. My sincere sympathy for Michelle Williams and baby Matilda Rose. Rest in peace Heath Ledger.
