My Morning Jacket Set New Album Release Date, Kool Herc Tries to Save Hip-Hop’s Birthplace, Fergie Pregnant? and More

1/15/08, 3:50 pm EST

  • My Morning Jacket have revealed they will release their new, still-untitled album on June 10th. The album will be the band’s first studio release since 2005’s Z. To mark the event, MMJ will bring their legendary live show to New York’s Radio City Music Hall on June 20th.
  • According to rumors, Fergie may have a bun in the oven. The gossip started after Ferg’s new husband Josh Duhamel was given a pair of baby slippers as a present. “Everyone is saying she is pregnant,” sources tell the New York Daily News.
  • Hip-hop founding father Kool Herc and NY Senator Chuck Schumer are teaming up to buy the projects where Herc first gave birth to the genre. With assistance from the New York Housing Dept., Herc wants to purchase the West Bronx apartment building so that it can remain affordable housing while preserving its place in rap history.
  • When he’s not playing Guitar Hero, Slash plays an actual guitar. To reiterate that point Gibson Guitars are releasing eight Slash-branded guitars ranging from “cheap” to “high-end custom,” with each guitar brandishing Slash’s autograph. Gibson also plans a Jimmy Page line later in the year.
  • An illegal gangsta rap station in Tampa, Florida, was busted and three “DJs” arrested after the pirate station failed to properly secure an FCC license. Given the violent and lyrically-explicit nature of their broadcasts, actual FCC clearance would have been unlikely.
