I didn’t know that American Idol EVER had any credibility. The fact that this chode had the best selling album for 2007 speaks volumes about the horrible state of music in this country.

It takes more than raw talent and marketability to be a successful musician. Sincerity, or “street cred” is what sustains an artist’s career… that ability to connect with an audience in a real way, a connection that lasts beyond the hit single or sold out Idol show. Daughtry is the only musician from that show that seems to have that genuine quality to him. Seven years in, I think America is starting to realize that people like Ryan Seacrest, Taylor Hicks, and Ruben Studdard, though talented, are really just products of a show designed to tell us who we should like.

Wow, many of you are sure putting a whole lot of effort into aguring a artist that you ‘don’t care about.’ If you don’t care, than why take the time to post??? And since when is it taboo to speak your mind and have a different opinion of any one of you??? Many of you are arguing violently for the sole reason that you don’t agree. Since when do we all have to have the same opinion??? I couldn’t agree with him more about Idol – by the seventh season, something must change, because they can’t remain the show they’ve been and stay at the top. I’m not even an Idol fan, but I know how popular the show is – and it won’t be for long.

The author interviewed Daughtry on this because it was the angle they wanted for the story. He had experience on the show and has had success without it.

And have you EVER heard the phrase, “You can’t believe everything you read??” Was the entire interview published?? No. Did the author pick and choose from the interview what they needed to make their story?? ABSOLUTELY. If any of you were fans, (or were merely going to be a CREDIBLE response to this article) you would find out more information behind just what this one page on the net says before forming such strong opinions. If you see interviews or if you’ve ever met him, or been to a concert, you know he is a great guy with a tremendous following. He has always credited Idol for his exposure and been thankful for that.

As for being cut from Rock Star: for one, I’ve never heard of one success story from that show (not saying it didn’t happen, but it obviously wasn’t highly publisized). He was smart to turn to Idol to get exposure of his talent.

Idol’s exposure has led to success stories for only a handful of contestants. The producers can only do so much to get the name and talent out there and offer records, etc. Then it’s up to the artist to carry his own weight and gain fans, etc. This is something that has panned out for Chris and his band – obviously, 3.6 million records later. He has staying power and I, for one, can’t wait to hear what else Daughtry has in store.

Just because some of you have not been as successful as Chris in your own lives does not mean you have the write to crucify him in such an angry and uncalled for manner.

Daughtry is the most over-rated blowhard act to be inflicted on society in years. But its hilariously ironic when the media created tool turns on cartoon circus that made him.

The DAUGHTRY CD is hands down THEEE best CD I’ve ever owned! Every single song on it is amazing. And – he – Chris – wrote almost all of them himself too. I have NO DOUBT this band will be around for A VERY long time…mark my word!
Oh, and they’ll be getting Grammys in less than a month too…mark my work on that one too! They’re nominated for 4.
Chris is a class act, actually, and you’d know that if you took the time to know him and what he’s all about. Probably one of the nices guys on this planet, actually.

Since RS have virtually all but ignored DAUGHTRY’s extremely successful year, which has culminated in awards from his peers and from his fans, I suppose they thought they had to say SOMETHING. That the something appeared to make Mr. Daughtry seem unappreciative of his time on AI and the boost it gave his career, is no surprise. Had the interview been printed in its entirety (as per Mr. Daughtry on his website), and not cut apart for negative shock value, then RS would have been admitting they had missed the boat on this one, and that would never do. Ah – the power of the printed word ……. especially when all the words are not printed.

I really don’t understand where a lot of you people are coming from. There are so many different variations of music, and so many different people in this world who have their own likes and dislikes. Just because you don’t like a certain kind of music or a certain artist, or you compare them with so many others (and there is no comparison in your minds) does not mean they suck. It means you, personally, don’t like them. Chris Daughtry was not dissing Idol. He was telling it the way he sees it today. Everyone know that Idol focuses a lot on the people who have no talent, as it is what makes the show so interesting to a lot of people. That’s what keeps it going. Chris Daughtry has stated often that AI gave him the opportunity he needed, and that he is very grateful for that. If you don’t like him or his music, it is your personal opinion. Why do you people have to bash people you don’t like. It’s not AI that sucks, or Chris Daughtry who sucks, it’s you, the people, who can’t seem to grow up and take everyday life for what it is. It is easier to bash TV shows and people than it is to admit your own shortcomings, or deal with your everyday life. It’s time for you, the people, to get real and just grow up. And if you don’t like AI, don’t watch it. And if you don’t like Chris Daughtry or any of the others that have come off AI, that’s totally your opinion. I can’t stand Daughtry’s cd. All the songs sound similiar and it is just too popish for me. Not at all what I expected from him after seeing AI. I don’t think this is the cd he really wanted to make. He has lost me as a fan forever unless he steps it up on the next cd.

Some of the things I read in here made my heart sink. There is a man with a heart behind the rough exterior. Chris Daughtry is a person, a human being, with a soul, with a family, with friends, and with feelings. For anyone to say some of the vicious things I have read, you need to take a good look at yourselves. Obviously Chris does read your rants. Has anyone ever thought that your harsh words would get to him? I hope not, for your own sakes.
Oh, and I can’t help but comment on something someone said about the band. Anyone who thinks that the band was not involved in the quest to win those awards and the success of the album has never been to a Daughtry concert. Concerts create fans and the Daughtry band are a great group of friendly gracious men with an amazing talent for music and entertaining. If you haven’t seen the concert, you have no idea. I don’t watch AI. I heard people on radio talking about Daughtry. I read good reviews of his CD and gave it a listen. I play it often and really like it. He’s also received good play on television with the NCAA. It sounds like people like to work with him and his music speaks for itself.

Holy crap this got all up everyone’s ass… 1) I’m surprised CD is not more supportive of the show that made him. 2) He couod easily end up like the three that recently lost their record deals… we’ll see if he shot his wad on he first album. 3) They aren’t my fav, but they certainly don’t suck… 4) haters suck

January 2007…Paula received an Award in Las Vegas. Simon C., Randy, and Ryan was there….So was Chris D. Now how many idols travel with the judges?? Chris D., did have a show there, but not at that time. I saw the newspaper articles and TV news and saw Chris sucking up to the judges. hmmmm.

If the other idols that were dropped had the same kind of promotion they gave Chris…they would still be singing and have somewhat of a career.

Chris is talented, but so were some of the others. I guess he has made so much money now, he can diss the show that made him where he is now.

To the person below who dissed the Daughtry and Hicks fans – keep in mind that this is just a small group of their so-called supporters.

There is a group of crazy (mainly) women who hang out on the internet on various message boards obsessing over either Daughtry or Hicks. Every single time there is a an article like this one where comments are allowed, they start bitching and sniping at one another. They just can’t seem to stop themselves from saying mean and demeaning things about the two musicians, despite the fact that they really have no reason to personally dislike either of the men in question. What they are really doing is making themselves look pathetic.

The Daughtry fans quickly label the Hicks fans “SP” for Soul Patrol – making the sweeping judgement that these 10 to 15 crazy internet posters represent every single person who likes Hick’s music. This small group of low-life, classless Hick’s fans makes the same assumption about the nasty group of Daughtry’s followers (a couple of women in particular who are extremely potty-mouthed and scary).

What both of these small groups of weirdos don’t seem to realize is that all they are doing is making their respective idols look as pathetic as they are.

Then there’s the rest of us – regular people who aren’t crazy, mean spirited and obsessed. I for one haven’t bought either singer’s music because I’m so put off by both of their fanbases, as well as all of the politics involved in the recording industry today – but that’s another story.

Poor Chris Daughtry and Taylor Hicks! I would imagine that they cringe every time they go on the internet – If those people are truly their fans, they would represent them in the manner that Hicks and Daughtry seem to represent themselves, and not in the trashy way that they behave.

Thanks for clearing that up ‘thetruth’. The posts I am seeing here have had me very confused!! I thought for a moment that the Daughtry fan’s were trying to make this story about Taylor Hicks- to avoid talking about the real issue at hand.

Back to the point, Daughtry is correct about what he said. True, the show is on a decline. It is getting rather boring. However, I do not think he should have said what he did to a reporter. If my memory serves me correct, he was only on the show a few years back. My take, he is saying “since I left the show, it has gone downhill”…seems a bit odd and self loving. AI made him, manufactured him, marketed him. I do not care for him at all. I agree with the “copy cat” theories and just had this discussion with someone at work the other day.

I applaud Chris Daughtry for his honesty. The show is on a decline. The reason is simple, as soon as Taylor Hicks won, the show became a joke. Simon Cowell and Simon Lythgoe have both stated the same. To not jump the shark, Idol needs to have only legit singers in the top 12. While the Sanjiya’s & Hicks make for hysterical TV because they are so bad, VFTW and crazy fans will do their all to support these clowns. If only real potential singing stars are kept in the top 12 all will be well with American Idol and credibility will be restored.

AI is and always has been a joke , as evidenced by the elimination of Chris in season 5. AI is like a train wreck with gawkers, who want to but can’t turn their heads away from the alarmingly bad performances of late. Chris is the best thing to ever come of that waste-of-time show.

I agree with everything the truth says. Some of these people who claim to be Daughtry fans are making the rest of us look bad. Its childish what some of these people are saying. I would not diss another artist it is low.

First of all, the voting system on AI needs to be completely revamped. Hicks and Sanjaya get votes based on popularity, not real talent. The bad talent gets voted in because “bad talent” makes for “good” TV. In other words, most people can’t stop looking at a trainwreck. The objective of the show is to find the most talented artist, therefore, I believe the show has lost it’s objective and credibility.

Goodness, Jaylynn. High School Musical sold many CD’s (not sure how many but near the same amount as Daughty.. correct me if I am wrong)..I suppose you consider that good music?

When Taylor Hicks won is when the decline of idol started because it completely ruined their credibility. I mean, what kind of show has someone as talentless as Hicks, who looks like a clown on stage with the way he dances, winning over true talent, like Chris Daughtry? I’m glad that Chris spoke out about the shows decline, and hopefully his comments will be heard, and we’ll see some changes in the future. The biggest change needed is for the votinhg system to be revamped to stop fanbases like the SP from cheating, and turning the show into a big joke.

Just going by what “thetruth” had to say, I checked the AI message boards and there does seem to be about 20 regular posters on the Hicks and Daughtry boards with way too much time on their hands. One poster alone had around 55,000 posts. Assuming each post took her around a minute, I did some math and found out that she’s spent over a month of her life just POSTING on the AI boards over the past couple of years. That doesn’t even include READING the board – that’s just POSTING! On top of that, I’m sure that she has spent many, many more hours on other boards and on pages like this.
What an amazing thing to relfect upon on one’s dying day – “I spent more than 20 weeks of my life talking about somebody I really don’t know on the internet”.

There is no way that anyone could have 55,000 posts on the AI message boards!? How is that even possible? I was a member for two days and lost my account. I suppose I said something offensive even though I’m not sure what. I find it hard to believe that someone could make it alive long enough to post 55,000 times! That is called “internet addiction” and this person obviously needs to seek help!

The Soul Patrol has a bad reputation for being stalkers and I’m being totally serious. Not only are they on-line stalkers, but they have also stalked Taylor himself. Let’s just say that I know who they’re talking about and that this person has been stalked by them for the last year, so I do know what that post was all about! It was the same type of comment that’s made by those Idiots all the time, and they know who they are. You know…it really pisses me off that this interviewer is such a liar. They ask artists to tell the truth, and they take everything they say and twist it and manipulate it. I’m sorry that not everyone can have the chance to know Chris and know what kind of person he is…he would never sit there and bash anyone or anything, especially American Idol. The Daughtry fans aren’t being completely truthful I was on the AI boards the night Daughtry was kicked off the show. I saw terrible language from them. They were attacking other fan bases and despite Daughtry’s success they still can’t move on. I never saw one person from the SP taunt them like they claim but if a few did, it wasn’t the whole fan base so why take it out on everyone? I am completely neutral in this. Things have been carried too far by both sides. Neither is innocent. When are both fan bases going to agree to disagree? It’s okay to like Taylor Hicks, it’s okay to like Chris Daughtry. No one is completely right here as no one is completely wrong either. The one with 55,000 posts is the one who keeps the crap stirred. Open your eyes people, she loves it, she thrives on it. Chris must be chafing at the bit since he’s OWNED by AI. He went into that contract with 19 with his eyes wide open. He wouldn’t have had the massive sales numbers he had without the pimping he got weekly with AI using his song Home for the boot song last year.

The show is on the decline but the tool should have learned by now that it isn’t wise to bite the hand that feeds you. Chris would be nothing without AI.

This is the most entertainment I have had in awhile. First we have the SP called “stalkers”, which may very well be true. On the other hand, we have the Daughtry fans threatning to post names. Keeping it real, first off, it’s obvious that you’re not neutral in this at all. Daughtry fans are the ones that have been constantly harrassed by the Jealous SP, who can’t get over the fact that Chris is a success, and Taylor’s no where to be seen, unless you happen to be in the shopping mall he’s performing in. The comments that Chris made did NOT in any way make him sound ungrateful, but yet all the SP were here in a flash, ready to spam this site with all the negative posts they could, and I’m sure that somehow, in their delusional minds, they feel like it’s going to mean that a lot of people don’t like them, when in reality it’s the same one’s posting over and over!

Chris’s achievements and successes have shown that he was a talent that just needed to be seen/heard. Idol gave him that chance – and he appreciates that fact!
Chris is not only very talented – but a thoroughly decent person. person.
I hope the success Chris has had will encourage some who are serious about their music but may not have wanted to enter Idol because of the reputation it often has.

OKAY. debate time kids. 1, Chris would’ve gotten noticed sooner or later but after struggling to do so for 11 years prior to AI, letdown had to get exhausting, so he turned to something that could get him going. he didnt expect it to carry him through his career, he’s capable of doing that hiself. 2,His “15 minutes”? hahha. RIGHT. You make it seem like he sat around on his ass and let writers make his album and sits there making money off of them. No, sorry, he worked hard on that amazing album (which sat on TOP of the charts all year btw) so he, AND THE BAND, deserve a hell of a lot more than 15 minutes. And the fans are gonna make sure of that. If their songs are so crappy, why are they being played? They’re played because people like them. Yeah, AI has its issues, and it always has, because it’s interested in pre-fab “stars” and not singers capable of singing original songs as well as covers. But Chris Daughtry fails to realize that when he bashes AI, he’s bashing himself, because he is the same kind of cookie-cutter singer that ends up winning these things. For all his complaining, he doesn’t realize that the music he makes with that “band” of his is absolutely no different than the crap the winner/runner-up ends up performing. It’s not just “biting the hand the feeds you”, it is a delusional “I’m better than the show” attitude in his comments that prove he just doesn’t have a clue. For all the complaining about the machinery of the show, he is not merely a product of its success; even by losing, he’s failing to put across any original musical idea. The constipated Nickelback-warmed-over shtick might get him the Hannah Montana crowd, but it’s not real music, unless it comes off a conveyor belt like a Cinnabon.

And, to be fair, Taylor Hicks’ shtick is even more grating; bubblegum pop and alleged neo-soul is like a glass of milk followed by a shot of orange juice—it’s a nauseous mix.

Point: AI has its problems. But either Daughtry is delusional, or he’s putting on a rock attitude of ingratitude to establish that he’s a rebel and he’ll never, ever be any good. On that count, he’s half-right.

So RS needed a pseudo-provocative lead-in for a timely story on AI. They picked a soundbite from Chris & set up this ’sensational’ approach that would have been the jist of their pitch irregardless of WHO they chose to interview.

Maybe they should have asked Sanjaya’s opinion instead?? Story would have been written in the same vein.

This is the only intreview since we heard this man on AI that he has ever been portraid as anything other than greatful for his time on AI, there are 45min interviews that we see 5 comments on so, WHY NOT HEAR Chris’ side of this story before we jump to negative coments.

Just reposting Chris’s response to this, just as a reminder for those who want to keep bashing him, and you know who you are, and why you’re doing it. For those that have never experienced the hatefulness of the SP, then you might not recognise it, but some of us are all too familar with it, so the accusations made against the haters are true. Like for instance: How it’s an amazing platform to launch a career…..”If you take it seriously!!!!” Let’s not forget I was a struggling artist for 11 years that never got any respect or notoriety so know that I’m eternally grateful for the opportunity that Idol gave me. And that’s where my comments came from. It all started when the interviewer (who was great by the way) asked me where the “Idol stigma everyone talks about” comes from. Ya know….the reason people never take anyone from the show serious in the real world and why people say “oh they came from AI, they’re not real artists.” So, I answered that I don’t feel that enough “artists” try out for the show because of how many people they focus on that are obviously there for comedic and entertainment value. And when you focus enough on people that aren’t serious about it then it’s hard for the audience to take you as an artist serious. And it’s also hard as a potential contestant to think it’s a good way to get seen because you’re afraid of being made a joke of. I also said I think it’s AWESOME that they are letting the contestants play their own instruments and that I feel that will show something in the contestants that people (the audience) never get to see….but that wasn’t printed. My long winded point is this….I was never trying to “DISS” the show or “BITE THE HAND THAT FED ME” so to speak. I was simply giving my input on what I think would spice the show up a bit.

I got this link after it was posted on the American idol boards earlier today, and just read all the comments. First off, just want to say that today you’d be happy to know that everyone posting in the thread from all different fanbases saw nothing wrong with Chris’s remarks, and made a lot of positive comments about him. Everything was great, till you reached about page 3 of the thread, then bam, the members of the Soul Patrol appeared and posted one negative comment after another. Everything from “he’s rude” to “he’s biting the hand that feeds him”, and all sorts of others. You’ll be happy to know that no one else agreed with them, but just thought I’d let you know because I tend to agree that it is them posting on this site. They also posted the link the day before, with hateful comments attached to it. Some say it’s because they’re jealous, and I tend to agree. Anyhow, good luck with keeping them off this site, and also I wish Chris the best for his future. What a talented guy!

I am so happy for Daughtry’s success! You want to know why Daughtry succeeded and Taylor failed? Because Daughtry kept his focus on the music and left AI in the dust. Taylor clung to the Soul Patrol gimmicks he used on AI to gain votes and relied on them to get by, therefore, his ONLY fans are AI fans. He failed to expand his fanbase. I knew he was going to fail when I still heard him doing, “woooooo Soul Patrol” shoutouts on TV interviews. Flash-in-pan gimmicks DO. NOT. WORK.

I commend Chris Daughtry for standing up. I agree with him wholly, that American Idol needs to focus on the more talented singers. I only watch one or two of the audition shows. But watching 2 hours of that in January? That borderlines on TORTURE! I’m more concerned about the top 24 and top 12 shows later on. They put so much buzz on some of the bad singers, even have them on the season finale with the best ones. Ever since William Hung made an album of his bad singing, Idol’s been riding on that bad singers trend, even up to Sanjaya of last year. Daughtry has proven that he can sell albums–his band even challenged Nickelback (who they’re compared to a lot) for chart space last year. I think there’s a lot of talent out there that the Idol producers pass on. I think that Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee being dropped from their labels might be because some they couldn’t take any more disappointing weeks of slow sales from them. Chris might take some flack for his remarks, but he’s right on target on what Idol should do next. Show more of the TALENT!!!!!!!!

I agree wholeheartedly with him on this. He’s right….’American Idol’ is failing because of how bad the auditions they show are. No one wants to watch that bullshit anymore. They want to hear people who deserve to be on the show and could actually win.

And for anyone who is moping around about how Chris is ungrateful, you might look at the article again and he never said anything that negative about it other than that it’s losing it’s spark (which is completely correct.) He knows it’s what got him where he is but you can’t expect him to just fawn over it incessantly. He has his own career now to think about. ‘Idol’ helped start it, his own hard work will continue it.

Most of you people just don’t get it – or just don’t want to. He was asked a question by the interviewer and he answered it. He didn’t just make a statement that AI lacked credibility. He was asked “why he thought there was such a stigma to Idol and the reason no one takes anyone serious who comes off the show.”

Most of you want to believe that Chris just decided to make a statement dissing Idol. What is with you people?

The whole interview wasn’t posted. Here is part of it – the most important part. What really happened is, as Chris states is … “It all started when the interviewer (who was great by the way) asked me where the “Idol stigma everyone talks about” comes from. Ya know….the reason people never take anyone from the show serious in the real world and why people say “oh they came from AI, they’re not real artists.” So, I answered that I don’t feel that enough “artists” try out for the show because of how many people they focus on that are obviously there for comedic and entertainment value. And when you focus enough on people that aren’t serious about it then it’s hard for the audience to take you as an artist serious.”

He only spoke the truth because that is exactly the way it has been since Season 1. Nobody from the show has been taken seriously. Good gracious people – this is one of the most honest statements anyone could have made about AI and is so very, very true. There is certainly no indication of dissing AI.

I have thought this way about the show for a long time, as do probably the majority of the people commenting on this board.

I guess it’s just more amusing for people to make a “big deal” out of something that IS NOT A BIG DEAL.

I am a huge Idol fan. I watch every episode. Chris Daughtry was my favorite. I cried the night he got kicked off. However, I see no need for the arguing that’s going on. If you don’t like Chris don’t listen to him and if you don’t like Taylor then don’t listen to him. It’s pointless to sit here and argue. I have to agree with what Chris said though. Randy Jackson made a comment on Fox news tonight after AI aired and Randy stated that he believes Chris’ comments were taken out of context. Now AI knows what Chris is more about then we do. So if AI (Randy Jackson, whom I believe to be the spokesperson for this particular issue) believes it was taken out of context, and it was the media who printed the article, I would defintely lean toward AI.
