1/10/08, 5:24 pm EST

In our new, Depp-utized issue of Rolling Stone, Fab Four drummer Ringo Starr sits down with Austin Scaggs to talk his new album, which Beatles record is his favorite and what’s on his iPod. We had all these audiotapes of Ringo and we were just going to throw them out, but we figured “Maybe our readers would like to hear this.” To hear those exclusive audio clips — in which Ringo talks about naming his new album and a 1964 Beatles gig where he had “too much medication” — click here.

Everyone thinks Ringo is a joke. How wrong you are!He just doesn’t have the right producer. If I produce Ringo he would be back on the charts. He’s damn good. He’s not a McCartney or Presley, but he even at 66 he’s still good.Rock on Ringo.

Ringo was always the “crap” one, never had any real talent. He was only the drummer for “The Beatles” because they didn’t know anyone else who could play the drums.

“Yoko’s gone, we can party again! John, get Ringo off the ceiling, he’s got a song to sing about a yellow tambarine or something.”

Before you produce the next Sgt. Pepper’s you might want to learn a first grade concept of putting spaces between periods, genius!

The text says the “over-medication” happened in 1964 and that it at a gig in Indianapolis but Ringo sez 1965 in Minneapolis. Lame.

Ringo is the coolest. He never tried to white wash their drug history the way Paul and George did. He was honest. And his picking of the musicians for Backbeat soundtrack was dead on punk rock.

Ah…my fave Beatle, as a solo artist. The first half of the 70’s, he recorded some serious, yet fun & refreshing, rock and roll records, with amazing impact that have stood the test of time. As a teenager in the 70’s, Ringo was a fave to me and my peers – the 60’s were before our time. I realize he’s supposed to be the “fun one”, but, his “fun” recording choices derailed his music career a he became a joke the second half of the 70’s, bringing much disappointment to us, and we basically stopped buying his records. Silliness shines only momentarily in Rock. His last worthwhile hit single back then was “A Dose Of Rock And Roll”…it was downhill after that.

Time Takes Time was a good Album (early 1990’s), he had the right producer (Jeff Lynne)and the right writers (Lynne, Petty, Jellyfish, Posies)… his tracks on McCartney’s Flaming Pie were pretty good too, Esp. Beautiful Night

The real fun is his All Star Band show (esp the first few years) when he had Entwhisle, Frampton, Dave Edmonds,Nills etc..

Ringo Rocks! | 1/13/2008, 6:28 pm EST

Simply put, Ringo is one of the greatest and most influential rock drummers of all-fucking-time! Go back and listen to Abbey Road, or any Beatles album for that matter, his brilliance shines through on every song. It was the late great Keith Moon himself who said when asked, “who is you favorite drummer?” Ringo Starr! Shut the fuck up and listen, you just might learn something.
