Every week on the new E! series Father Hood, Snoop Dogg takes you into the mundane shiznit of being both a family man and a potty-mouthed hip-hop icon. Here’s our fifth Rock Reality Recap:
Thirty Minutes in Two Sentences Snoop and his family travel to Munich, Germany, for the MTV Europe Music Awards, and Snoop goes on a cranky quest for fried chicken in the Bavarian capital of sausage. While Snoop’s entire crew scrambles for raw wings to cook for the Boss Ladies’ birthday dinner, Snoop rehearses his big awards-show entrance with cracking, malfunctioning pyrotechnics that remind him of gang fights.
Kin and Juice Snoop enlists his international network of Dogg relatives in “operation chicken wing,” including cheetah-print-suited chef Uncle Red, who attempts to fly internationally with a cooler full of raw meat. Finally, one of Snoop’s relatives stationed at the army base at Munich delivers Snoop a military briefcase full of fowl and seasoning. In a Pulp Fiction throwback, the briefcase glows when opened and Snoop is finally able to deliver his Boss lady some wings for her birthday.
It’s a Doggy Dogg World So apparently the usual jovial Snoop can get pretty cranky without a drumstick in his diet, even sending up some grief to above over some cold sausage (”Dear heavenly God, why did you have us come all the way out here to eat this”). He puts his staff’s jobs on the line, barking like an over-literal Russell Simmons, “If I ain’t got the ingredients to do me, I can’t do me.” But at the end of the day, Snoop has a few superpowers of his own to cope with a chicken-less Deutschland. “Superman got dressed in a phone booth. So if he got dressed in a phone booth — I can do anything.” Fed and happy, Snoop hits the MTV stage in full-functioning pyrotechnic glory, riding on a Caddy with the German flag painted on the hood.
Snoopism of the Day Chuuch — the “universal greeting of all players. So when I see you and you see me: Chuuch.” But we also appreciated a few other Snoopisms throughout the show, like when he called one of his managers from a Munich rooftop to tell him, “Two on two make it do on do on top. Meet me at the spot.” Later he responds to a “what’s up” with “promotion promotion trying to get to the ocean” while the MTV anchors queried what the rapper would call a shnitzle in Snoop. Next week Snoop Dogg interacts with some real live canines and gives them some lessons on defecation manners.
