Eddie Vedder “Guaranteed” Video To Premiere, Clapton/Townshend/Starr Play Secret NYE Show, Flo Rida Sets Digital Record and More

Eddie Vedder

  • Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder will unveil his first solo music video for “Guaranteed,” taken from his Into the Wild soundtrack. The video, shot by director Marc Rocco and featuring “striking silhouettes of Vedder with translit still frames from the film in a powerful and simple way,” will premiere on VH1 on January 7th. The song has already been nominated for a Grammy and a Golden Globe, and is a frontrunner for an Oscar nod.
  • According to reports, Pete Townshend, Ringo Starr and Eric Clapton played a secret show together on New Year’s Eve. The trio, performing under the name Totally Abandoned, played a show comprised of “mostly old classics” at a club in Surrey, U.K., with proceeds from the £50 tickets going to charity. A post dated today on the Who’s official site confirms the show, and adds, “the rumour’s now going around that Who guitarist Pete Townshend is going to be performing at ‘a much larger gig’ in New York sometime before March.”
  • U.K. space-rockers Spiritualized have been “sittin’ on a finished (and mastered) record” for the past few months while Universal Music “try to sort out their shit.” Once the shit is sorted, you’ll have it, says a post on the band’s Web site. Frontman Jason Pierce also contributes some music to the soundtrack of Harmony Korine’s film Mister Lonely.
  • Rapper Flo Rida is having a much better week than his frost-covered namesake state: He set the record for most (legal) downloads in one week as his “Low” was MP3ed roughly 470,000 times last week, crushing the single-week record previously held by Fergie’s “Fergalicious” at 294,000.
  • Snoop Dogg claims that a video of his fight with security guards at London’s Heathrow Airport in 2006 (which ultimately got him banned from the U.K.) will lead to his unbanishment, as he aims to return to Britain in time to promote the March release of his new album Ego Trippin’.

Ed -”I’ll go for a Johnny Depp look, yeah yeah, a crumpled felt number”
And as always he doesn’t get it right, it’s a cheap walmart hunting fedora, not a Deppish 40’s italian fedora. You didn’t get that Nirvana imitation right either ya goof. This guy has quietly become the biggest poser in music.

Eddie Vedder is the biggest poseur in music? Pearl Jam has been putting out what they wanted regardless of trends for a good decade now after the whole grunge thing. If you want to see poseurs turn on MTV for the 3 minute span each day they show videos each day and see how many memorable bands you find.

Joe | 1/4/2008, 10:49 am EST

How do you “quietly” become the biggest poseur in music? Yeah, Eddie’s hat/camouflage jacket combo is ridiculous, but that has nothing to do with the fact that Pearl Jam are nothing less than iconic. And the Nirvana comparison, beyond the area from whence they came, does not hold water. Two separate bands with different styles.

Try doing this. Close your eyes and open your ears… It’s about the music.

stubbsatronic | 1/4/2008, 2:23 pm EST

Eddie Vedder is more punk rock than Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and any other mainstream band you can think of. It’s all about ethics kids. Pearl Jam and EdVed keeps it reals. holla.

Metal Shawn G | 1/4/2008, 5:38 pm EST

Eddie Vedder is a eunich, and his band has no balls!

I still think the “gun thing” is a good idea!

In my story, Jeremy would’ve just turned the gun on himself! Fuckin’ nerdy outcast!

UAW/MF | 1/5/2008, 12:43 am EST

Isn’t that actually from the JC PENNY Jagoff Line of hats?

All that headbanging has your brain a little stupid. Jeremy did kill himself in the video. But you would probably know that if you weren’t having sex with a James Hetfield blow-up doll.
