Be sure to check out our interview with Los Angeles quartet Bodies of Water at the Breaking Blog. Our latest Breaking Artist funnels roots rock, soaring gospel, the Mamas & the Papas-style harmonies and Spaghetti Western themes into an uplifting, California-baked package. Bonus: their original name was Unicorn of Death. Get the skinny on singer-songwriter David Metcalf’s past life as an SAT question writer and Harry Potter trivia fact-checker and find out how Bodies of Water learned about Death Cab for Cutie’s penchant for Maker’s Mark and fruit baskets, plus watch a live performance of “Doves Circled the Sky” here.

This band is amazing | 1/2/2008, 11:17 pm EST

I just checked out this band on their myspace page today and ended up purchasing their album. The record is entitled “Ears Will Pop and Eyes Will Blink”. I implore anyone and everyone to get this album – especially if you are fans of Arcade Fire, Talking Heads, and the like. Take those bands and throw in a splash of gospel and you’ve got Bodies of Water.

Seriously, the best record of 2007 that I didn’t hear until 2008.
