
- After weeks of rumors, Jay-Z has confirmed he’s leaving his post as Def Jam president. “Now it’s time for me to take on new challenges,” he said in a statement Christmas Eve. Anonymous sources tell The New York Times that Universal declined to renew Jay’s executive contract under the more lucrative terms he was seeking; as a Def Jam artist, he still has one or two more albums on his contract.
- Yung Joc was charged with carrying a concealed weapon at a Cleveland airport after a loaded semi-automatic gun was found in his carry-on luggage Sunday morning. Joc said he didn’t know the gun was there, and missed this morning’s arraignment, meaning he is now considered a fugitive. Hinder frontman Austin Winkler was arrested on suspicion of DUI after leaving an engagement party Friday night in Arkansas.
- Remy Ma’s friend is suing the rapper for $10 million for “willfully, wantonly and maliciously” shooting her in July (Remy will stand trial for attempted murder and other charges related to the incident, as well as separate charges for an August assault). According to reports, Makeda Barnes-Joseph claims Remy’s record labels encouraged the rapper’s bad behavior to bolster her rough image, and names the companies as additional defendants.
- Eddie Van Halen is officially single again — his divorce from actress Valerie Bertinelli has been finalized. Van Halen and Bertinelli, who have been separated for seven years, will continue to raise their sixteen-year-old son Wolfgang, who’s currently on tour with his dad and uncle as Van Halen’s bassist.
- Rush has announced they will tour in 2008, beginning with an April gig in Puerto Rico and continuing on with stops in Austin, Orlando, Chicago, Philadelphia and Seattle. The trio’s full list of more than forty dates will be released next month.
