Every week on the new E! series “Father Hood,” Snoop Dogg takes you into the mundane shiznit of being both a family man and a potty-mouthed hip-hop icon. Here’s our third Rock Reality Recap:
Thirty Minutes in Three Sentences: Snoop takes his wife and daughter to New York, where he performs at VH1’s 2007 Hip Hop Honors. Meanwhile, the three boys at home play teen movie by throwing a house party and taking at their dad’s Porsche for an ill-fated joy ride. Snoop checks in constantly via cell phone, getting the bad news about his expensive wheels getting towed shortly before he hits the stage with Pharrell.
Kin and Juice: Immediately after his dad boards the eastbound private jet, Snoop’s money-hungry middle son raids his dad’s closet for fur coats and the huge wad of cash he eventually finds. With their dad’s disproportionate pocket change, the boys order a dozen pizzas and have their friends over to make it rain in the living room, which was for the time dubbed “this motherfucker.” A tricky Snoop calls to make sure the boys were staying out of his room, ’cause he was “missing something.” When his youngest son asks what he was missing, Snoop says, “You tell me” and the duped ten-year-old correctly answers, “money.” If the street-smarts apple really falls that far from the tree, maybe it’s a good thing these kids are growing up in the ‘burbs.
It’s a Doggy Dogg World: Snoop enters the awards show with the likes of KRS-One and detective Ice T on the red carpet to receive his honors as one of the West Coast’s longest-lasting legends. After getting the “we did exactly what you told us not to do” call from the son he put in charge, Snoop swallows his anger in order to do “Drop It Like It’s Hot” for his fellow MCs. But when he learns that his spawn traded his custom-made $5,000 slippers to get the car back, he banishes the eldest to riding a scooter around town.
Snoopism of the Day: Unfortunately, Snoop didn’t take us inside his kind of creepy linguistics dungeon this time. But he did add a new layer to the term “green room” during his interview with Conan O’Brien — as in when Conan needs to calm his nerves, he should come visit Snoop in the “green room.” Next week, Snoop films the video for his new song “Sensual Seduction,” and as an afterthought, talks to his oldest son about the “birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees.”
