Weekend Rock List: 2007’s Best Music Videos

12/21/07, 2:35 pm EST

Since we’ve already determined Rolling Stone readers’ favorite songs and albums of 2007, this week’s Rock List spotlights the cream of the dying crop that is the music video. From Snoop Dogg emulating Rick James to two farmers (played by Will Oldham and Zach Galifianakis) rapping Kanye, here are our favorites. Let us know yours, and on Wednesday (Rock Daily needs a break, too!) we’ll post your picks. That’s Justice’s clip for “D.A.N.C.E.” above. Watch our four other picks after the jump.

Bat for Lashes’ “What’s a Girl To Do”

Kanye West’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”

Mute Math’s “Typical”

Snoop Dogg’s “Sensual Seduction”

re: Honest John

Sorry, we don’t have suicidal tendencies; we have HOMICIDAL tendecies!

No, we didn’t like any of those videos, but we’re going to have to kill you anyway!

Honest John | 12/26/2007, 5:03 pm EST

And also, if you liked Nickleback’s “Rockstar,” please kill yourself now. Ditto for any of Kanye’s latest thefts.

Honest John | 12/26/2007, 4:59 pm EST

1 - Animal Collective “Peacebone”
2 - Feist “1,2,3,4″
3 - Dan Deacon “The Crystal Cat”

Overreact much? Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

It’s the holidays and you gotta rip into this poor person who just has a different opinion than you?

If you ever talked to me like that I’d kick your ass down two flights of stairs!

Modest Mouse - Dashboard
The White Stripes - Icky Thump
Snoop Dogg - Sensual Seduction
Feist - 1, 2, 3, 4
Justice - D.A.N.C.E.
radiohead - 15 steps (not sure that counts, but it was funny.)

WalkinDude | 12/23/2007, 7:42 pm EST

“She Builds Quick Machines” by Velvet Revolver - Scott Weiland looks A LOT like Clint Eastwood and the whole western theme is wicked awesome.

“Rockstar” by Nickelback - I just like the inclusion of so many celebrities in the video.

And, since Rolling Stone shows TOO much love for rap videos, here’s a country one:

“Online” by Brad Paisley - absolutely HILARIOUS. Country music videos seem to be the only ones now a days that tell a really good story and make the viewer laugh. Maybe it’s just me (it probably is, just to let you know).

Axlotl | 12/23/2007, 6:46 pm EST

Nine Inch Nails - Survivalism

charliemapleton(aka CM Funk) | 12/23/2007, 3:25 pm EST

Riyadh, in terms of your comment yes and obviously I enjoyed these videos, but it shouldn’t result in causing my own demise. Reason being(even though I shouldn’t offer you one)is because they’ve managed to bring flair and appeal in ‘07 just like the artists themselves who starred in/made them. If my video picks for this year lacked those values, then why have the given right to post them? So regarding your opinion, it would be satisfying if you…how do the kids say? Oh, “Get off my nuts.”

Peace & Goodwill.

who cares…the music video is a dead artform. MTV brought it into ths world just as they took it away as a viable form of expression…having to watch videos on youtube sucks balls. Screw MTV for ruining a good thing.

TIM BURTON’S MUSIC VIDEO FOR “BONES” by The Killers was quite possibly the greatest music video I have ever seen. Got to love Tim Burton. Too bad that song sucks.

any RUSH…

Why even bother with a video when the suits at Rolling Stone aren’t even listening in the first place???

Take off the ties and come back down to earth!!!

Ricky | 12/21/2007, 11:52 pm EST

Snoop’s video was awesome. Just awesome.

The only other videos that I really liked were Feist’s “1234″ and Mika’s “Lollipop.”

And fuck it, the drama that was Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around/Comes Around” worked for me. The moral of the video? Fuck with JT and you DIE.

And I’ll give points to Beyonce and Shakira for whatever the fuck they were doing in that video of theirs. Makes a gay guy want to jump to the other side.

nicole | 12/21/2007, 10:16 pm EST

Nine Inch Nails - “Survivalism”

Actias Luna | 12/21/2007, 8:36 pm EST

Survivalism by Nine Inch Nails really was the best video of the year. It’s got everything one could possibly want from a video: great song, band rocks it out, cut aways to boobs and to hot guy-on-guy action, cut back to band - wait! No! The video ends like Hamlet. It’s that good. RS had better recognize.

Alanis Morissette My Humps?
Arcade Fire Neon Bible
