A warrant for R. Kelly’s arrest has been issued, effective tomorrow, because the singer failed to show up to his court date regarding his ongoing child-pornography charges in Chicago today. The reason why Kelly missed his appearance? His tour bus got stuck in snow, and when it finally made it back to the road it was promptly pulled over by Utah police who were checking that its driver hadn’t surpassed the number of hours he’s permitted to take the wheel per day. The tour bus log wasn’t properly maintained, so the bus was forced to stay off the road while R. and his crew decamped to a nearby motel.
Even though R.’s lawyers got the bus rolling again in three hours, Kelly couldn’t make it to the airport in time. Judge Vincent Gaughin, who’s overseeing Kelly’s case, was heated, saying that he’s already been lenient by allowing the star to leave Illinois. The judge then issued the arrest warrant, which will kick in tomorrow if Kelly doesn’t make it to court in time. Today did bring some news for the Trapped in a Closet star, however, as the judge decided to prohibit testimony from a doctor who said it was possible to positively identify R. Kelly in the sex tape that’s central to the trial based on the veins in his hands (perhaps he was unconvinced of anyone’s ability to discern much on the VHS tape, which looks like it was recorded in shabby EP mode).
