M.I.A. is sick of anonymous editors taking the ammo out of the chorus for her single “Paper Planes.” The rapper writes in her MySpace blog about haters cutting the gunshot noises out of her track when she performed on the The Late Show with David Letterman earlier this year (watch here). “I felt soooooo bad for what they did to my sound …. on the actual taping my sound was sooo different from what I’d agreed.”
And now MTV is messing with the video for “Planes”: “The video was sabotaged” she writes, and she’s posted the original version of the video, which was shot in Brooklyn and features a cameo from the Beastie Boys, on her site; check it out above.

This issue goes hand in hand with how, just because, of the gun shots her message can be mistaken as one of violence. The audience in this country is so lazy that we don’t even bother to look into what she’s really trying to say.
It’s a tough message to swallow. We prefer to listen to “Gimmie, gimmie MORE…gimmie more.”

the letterman performance got fucked with cuz of assholes at youtube and their “terms of use violation”. wasnt no fuckin violation, unless youtube is just as pissed as mia for the song bein edited. what, is gunshots on a song equal to actually shootin a real gun these days? its just sound effects people. like when u hear an explosion in a movie. if shit really blew up, the studio wouldve been destroyed.

Good Song. Nice Sampling of The Clash’s “Go Straight to Hell”

Could this be a moral rights issue? Monty Python succeeded in having its skits edited without permission, could MIA succeed in the same manner. It’s sorta BS they’re messing with her song.
