Days before the Stateside premiere of the feature-length coda to Ricky Gervais’ TV series Extras, Mark Follman caught up with the British comic as he shot a scene with a Great Dane for his first starring role in a Hollywood film. Gervais provided some insight into Sunday night’s Christmas show and spoke at length about convincing David Bowie to appear in one of its second-season episodes, where the Thin White Duke settled in at a piano and eviscerated Gervais’ wannabe-actor Andy Millman in song. Click here for the story, and enjoy the Bowie clip above.

Ricky Gervais’ Extras Christmas Special was the most self indulgent bit of crap TV I’ve ever seen. What a waste of talent. Stop whining and go back to Reading if that’s what you really want.

Extras Christmas Special was sublime. Comedy and pathos in equal measure. Brilliant.
