Happy for the Ventures, the greatest instrumental band ever, and for the DC5. Good to see Mellencamp and Cohen, a Canadian get inducted(when will Rush or the Guess Who be inducted?). Legendary Performers indeed. And Madonna sticks out like a sore thumb, but she is the most successful and one of the most influential female artist of all time and why shouldn’t she be inducted?

Next year expect to see the Eurythmics, Duran Duran and Depeche Mode on the nominations ballot.

What a crock! Madonna being inducted into the ROCK and ROLL Hall of Fame is an insult to all true rock and roll performers as well as rock fans everywhere. Madonna never released a single song that could be even remotely classified as rock and roll. This is, simply put, a sham. To include Madonna, who never released a rock song, and exclude truly great rock artists like Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Heart, and Steve Miller is a travesty. There should be a way all persons could be able to protest this obvious scam created by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The R&R Hall of Fame has inducted lots of people whom you can’t really define as “rock”. It’s more to do with their contribution to “popular music”. But in terms of the Rock and Roll spirit, Madonna definitely deserves a place! She’s got more balls, more rebellious than a lot of male rockers.

How come CHER has not yet been inducted? Sonny & Cher started in the 60’s and had lots of hit records. She went solo and throughout the 70’s made her living doing television and pumped out hit records. The 80’s included motion picture’s, more hit records, sold out concerts and even an Oscar. Madonna has been around sinc ethe 80’s. Cher has been in the public eye since the 60’s. Where is CHER among this elite group?

Someone stated earlier artists such as Steve Miller, Heart, Alice Cooper should have been inducted and I absolutely agree! This however has nothing to do with Madonna. As her music may not come to mind when someone speaks about “guitar” oriented Rock -N-Roll, she does exemplify the true spirit of Rock-N-Roll in her actions, her creative contributions and yes, even her music. Since the beginning of her career there have always been oposing people affected by her success, who speak out against her. Apparently she pushed their buttons. Her ability to move forward as a musician and artist successfully over the last three decades, and prove the oposing people wrong, may be one of Rock-N-Roll’s biggest “F#@* Y*@” to date. Bottom line, I enjoy the variety of artists that are included in the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame, as Rock-N-Roll is a state of mind, just as much as a powerful medium of self-expression! First of all what the hell is wrong with sucking people off, I can’t think of anything more rock n roll. Someone has got to do it. And has anyone seen Guns N Roses play live lately? Talk about electronically enhanced in the studio. Rock N Roll is many things to many people and does cover the pop music element as well at times if the attitude goes along with it. Does anyone think the Sex Pistols were inducted on talent. I love them, we all love them but everyone knows they technically sucked as a band, they just had a great rock and roll attitude. Bob Marley is deservedly in the Hall of Fame and he is technically reaggae, but that has rock n roll roots as well. It all comes from blues in one way or another. Like a Prayer, a gorgeous pop song is without doubt routed in blues and rock. I understand that Madonna is a bit polarizing, but no one in the past 30 years has been as influential on music as she. There are plenty of bands I would love to see in the Hall of Fame, TSOL, Peter Murphy, so many, and hopefully they will all get there chance, they just havn’t left such an impact or impression. Love her or hate her, she’s accomplished so much more than most artists could ever even think about. Not having Madonna in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is like leaving Andy Warhol out of the MOMA. Madonna, as we brits say…Brilliant!!
