Hair-Metal Highlights: The Outrageous Fortunes of L.A. Guns, Warrant and Four More Bands

12/12/07, 3:56 pm EST

In the new issue of Rolling Stone, Rob Sheffield takes a close look at Rocklahoma, the mid-July weekend festival where 100,000 fans gather in a giant field on the outskirts of Pryor, Oklahoma, to rock alongisde their Sunset Strip sleaze-metal guitar heroes. As a bonus, Andy Greene whipped up a chart tracking the career highs, lows, outrageous moments and current status of six hair-metal bands, from Ratt to Skid Row.

Skid Row only became a hair metal band when the “new” Skid Row started touring with hair metal bands.

“Angel Down” rocks.

Dude, you’re out of your mind if you’re trying to say that Skid Row wasn’t a hair band until they started doing nostalgia tours.

Skid Row was certainly more of real band than Poison or Slaughter, that’s for sure. But they still pretty much wore their own version of the hair metal uniform.

And when your singer looks like a Revlon model (and a hot one at that), complete with light rouge and eyeliner – you might be a hair band.

I’m so glad this Andy Greene got all his information from VH1 behind the music. Now honestly were you even born when Mental Health came out?

You’re really hung up on this age thing; it’s like some kind of reward for you parents screwing before other parents did. How shallow and stupid.

OMG LOL! The album is called “Metal Health” not “Mental Health”. Something tells me you’re lacking the latter!!!

You have to get paid some how, so do what you have to do. Join your shitty little fucking club where you can laugh at these guys, while getting off to all your hip Coldplay, and Gorillaz CDs – least these guys enjoyed themselves to the fullest. You think your favourite 2 second bands are going to last any longer?? Of course you do – you work for Rolling Stone. Congratulations – you’re better than everyone.

¡Give the name you want, Poison plays in arenas still in 2007! Talk all you want about the look, sure now it is a funny thing to tell, but the music remains. Who buys the first record of, lets say Yellowcard or Good Charlotte nowadays?

Rocklahoma was a great weekend were 100,000 people came together to enjoy their music. We did it without any silly fights or any shootings we hear so often about in todays current music age. I am greatly looking forward to going back this upcoming summer for another enjoyable weekend with the bands I enjoy!!!

Correction to Ratt “Low”: Robin Crosby died of AIDS, not a heroin overdose.

You guys should know this…

Stuart | 12/13/2007, 9:34 pm EST

Uh, correction Dennis A. Robin did die of a heroin overdose. He did have AIDS but it was actually a relapse and overdose that killed him. If you’re a Ratt fan, you should know this…..

john | 4/3/2008, 10:46 am EST

These bands defined a ten year run of rock music that won’t soon be forgotten…nuff said.

bla bla bla01 | 11/7/2008, 4:02 pm EST

you’ve got to be an idiot if tou get mental health mixed up with
metal heath there two different things

thirteenburn | 11/8/2008, 3:34 pm EST

To Dennis A:

Any self-respecting Ratt fan, not to mention ‘Glam Metal’ (or what I like to call it, ‘Hollywood Metal’) fan KNOWS that Robbin “King” Crosby died of a HERION OVERDOSE after relapsing and NOT AIDS.

Get your fact straight or stop posting. You’re only making yourself look ignorant.

Cheers!!
