Alicia Keys, Melissa Etheridge Celebrate Al Gore at Nobel Peace Prize Concert

12/12/07, 5:46 pm EST

Alicia Keys, KT Tunstall, Melissa Etheridge and Kylie Minogue were among the many musicians and actors on hand last night in Norway at the Nobel Peace Prize concert to honor former Vice President and environmental activist Al Gore. The evening was hosted by Kevin Spacey and Uma Thurman, who called Gore “sexy” and said the former VP “seems to be flourishing and following his calling. It’s just the most enviable thing in the world.” While the Norwegian Nobel Committee picked the night’s performers, Gore was permitted to select one (he chose a rocker who’s equally passionate about the environment: Etheridge).

The Peace Prize concerts began in 1994 and have grown exponentially ever since; this year’s event was seen by more than 400 million people in 100 countries and will be broadcast in the U.S. on Fox’s My TV network in January. Check out some additional photos from the event after the jump.

There seems to be this idea that if you question global warming, then you are not thinking scientifically, that you’re ignoring science and scientists.

That’s simply not the case. There are just as many scientists who don’t believe that the earth is heading towards a cataclysmic burning up.

Many of these pro global warming scientists believe that the earth will burn up in the next thirty years.

In fact, in 500 years the earth has gotten hotter by less than 1 degree!

Global warming advocates are involved in a social movement as much as a scienitfic movement.

Many of these same scientists believed 35 years ago believed we were on course for another ice age!

Perhaps then their theories might be a bit shaky!

Oh Beer. Get your emotions out of the way. i appreciate that you care about the planet but you are missing the point. i can think about global warming all day long but focusing on our carbon footprint isn’t going to help if it is being caused by the sun, which the hard science suggests. all the other planets are warming at the same rate- solar activity is measurably increasing. oh, do we have a good thing going here, as you say? umm, let’s see: yes. do i want a clean world for my grandchildren? that’s obvious. i didn’t say anything about recycling being bad- its good. people were talking about/doing that long before anyone talked about global warming- OK? i’ve been doing it for years and in Japan they’ve been doing it for a long time. limited resources. less mounds of garbage. less air polution. gore is not anyone’s hero. didn’t his administration put sanctions on iraq to the point that they couldn’t even get proper medical supplies and millions of children died? does he denounce the fact that every river and stream in the country is polluted? dioxin are in most mother’s breast milk. geneticaly altered food is spreading like wildfire and not only will farmers eventualy have to pay a company for patents on altered crops that have spread to farms but the affect on the human body will be devestating- has he denounced these rich corporations? large portions of the ocean are polluted and there is less and less fish. This guy, is suddenly caring about the world and people? i don’t think so. there is an agenda having to to with a global economy backed by a global army and funded by a global taxation. they are already talking about putting a global warming tax on many things. living a healthier cleaner life for the planet is a good thing but it has nothing to do with global warming.

Total BS = Total BS
I live in the High Arctic, I’ve seen the changes over the last few years, whether its by “solar activity” or man made, our world is changing. Obviously you could give a hoot about global/territorial/local warming, but some of us think its time for some action.
I don’t beleive the world is going to end, and I don’t think Manhattan is going to be under water in 5 years, I do however think that we as humans have a pretty good thing going here, and if we want out grandkids to enjoy life we should at least keep the world clean for them. I mean is it that hard just to do a little recycling or walk to the store instead of driving. AL Gore may be the Talking Head, but we should all be doing the little things anyway. He should be acknowledged simply for making people like you, me, and the next person reading this think about the environment, even if you don’t agree with him at least your writing about it, if the article hadn’t mentioned him would you have even thought about global warming today?

let’s see, you intentionaly and massively spread lies about man-made global warming ; all the unbiased data from real studies showing that we are in a warming trend- as are the OTHER planets due to solar activity; but your controllers are using you to hype this- not countless other obvious and dangerous and preventable problems in the environment and the world- which eventualy will try to use this to dictate global taxes to fund global armies and tell you where and when you can shit; and you get a peace prize- total orwellian and makes total sense in this backwards world. the sad part is when musicians are too ignorant to see this and celebrate these kind of idiots.

So these idiots flew to Norway to save the environment? Limousine liberals…
