Led Zeppelin: The Full Report From David Fricke

12/11/07, 9:17 am EST

For the second encore of their first full concert in twenty-seven years, at London’s O2 arena last night, Led Zeppelin tore into “Rock and Roll,” from their untitled fourth album, with a joyful vengeance. As drummer Jason Bonham hammered with the ghostly precision and ferocity of his late father, guitarist Jimmy Page fired dirty chunks of Chuck Berry and bassist John Paul Jones kept iron time with familiar reserve, singer Robert Plant sang the most obvious words of the night: “Been a long time since I rock and rolled.” Overhead, images of a much younger Zeppelin, in concert during the early and mid-Seventies, flashed on a huge digital-video screen. In those films, Led Zeppelin were the biggest, loudest and most cocksure band in rock. Jimmy Page’s now snow-white hair was still jet black; Robert Plant was a golden god, not yet a Viking elder, and the late John Bonham — whose death in 1980 abruptly ended Zeppelin’s reign — still ruled the engine room.

But the band that played underneath those memories last night was not the one that misfired at Live Aid in 1985 or again in New York in 1988. This one was rehearsed, ready and out to kill. This band was Led Zeppelin in every way.

Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham the Younger opened their two-hour show with the confident wit and colossal nerve of “Good Times Bad Times,” the first song on Led Zeppelin’s 1969 debut album. Even before Plant opened his mouth, the original fury — a surprisingly lean, dub-like crossfire of cannon-shot chords, frantic, gulping bass runs and polyrhythmic swagger — was in order and in force. “In the days of my youth/I was told what it means to be a man,” Plant sang, in the slightly lower register of someone who gives those lessons now. It was an appropriate effect, too — an admission of age delivered with feral pride — on a night dedicated to the memory of Zeppelin’s late friend and mentor, Atlantic Records’ co-founder Ahmet Ertegun. (Proceeds from ticket sales will go to music scholarships, created in Ertegun’s name, at schools in New York, England and his native Turkey.) Earlier, a quote from Ertegun, who died in 2006 at age eighty-three, hung from banners at the sides of the stage: “It is a great life, this life of music.” Zeppelin honored that sentiment by playing like a band renewed, not merely reunited.

You could see the pleasure — in the way Plant kicked at the base of his mike stand in “Ramble On,” sending it in an arc over his head ‘72-style, and in the big grin on Page’s face, blown up on the screen, as Bonham flew into the climactic drum thunder of “Black Dog.” For much of the show, even with a full, wide stage to themselves, Page, Plant and Jones stood in tight formation at the foot of the drum riser, often facing Jason, as if they were still in rehearsal. “I just want to have fun!” Plant barked at one point, as the band swerved from the extended, frenzied mid-section of “In My Time of Dying” back into the song’s blues-march backbone.

Zeppelin did not walk or waltz through any of tonight’s sixteen songs. You could hear the care, the weeks of practice that started back in June, in the live debut of “For Your Life” from the 1976 album Presence, a song which, according to Plant in our recent cover story, the band tried in the first rehearsals but dropped after two days. Obviously, there was no staying away from its eccentric oceanic chop. There was no getting away from the warhorses either. “No Quarter” came with the obligatory dry ice. “There are certain things we had to do — this is one of them,” Plant said, almost in apology, introducing “Dazed and Confused.” Page was soon back in ancient ritual — pulling long wah-wah groans from his Gibson Les Paul with a violin bow under a rotating steeple of green-laser beams.

More impressive, though, was the fresh tension in the song’s slow-drag sections as Page, Jones and Bonham pulled at the tempo, heightening the expectation between Page’s bent-note growls and Bonham’s thunder-crack rolls with extra delay. “Stairway to Heaven” was also not quite its over-familiar self, and refreshing for it, Page finger-picking the opening motif and hitting the ringing twelve-string chords with a relaxed, folk-rock grace, echoing Plant’s thousand-yard stare as he sang “And it makes me wonder …” The inevitable “Whole Lotta Love,” the first encore, was almost identical to the second-album script except for a short, tantalizing passage of raw-blues argument after the whooping-theremin blowout — no drums, no bass, just Plant and Page’s guitar snapping at each other like junkyard dogs.

Any doubts about Plant’s ability to still hit the high notes, his willingness to go stratospheric, was obliterated at the right, dramatic points in “Since I’ve Been Loving You” and “Kashmir.” Jones and Bonham locked in like family. And Page was a continual shock on guitar, mostly because he has played so little in public for the past decade. At sixty-three, Page is undiminished in his sorcerer’s mix of reckless ferocity — stammering runs, strangled howls, granite-block chords — and guitar-army wow. He recreated the harmonized-lick break in “Ramble On” with a sly blend of phasing and natural glide, and evoked the riff-orchestra swoop of “The Song Remains the Same” with a sustained rain of twelve-string harmonics. It was also clear why Page’s solo career has been one of fits and starts. In Led Zeppelin, Page built the perfect beast for his fury and ambitions. Last night, he cut and slashed against Jones’ percolating clavinet in “Trampled Underfoot” like an enraged butcher, and matched Plant’s hairpin cries in the field-holler passages of “Nobody’s Fault But Mine” with a devils’ choir of distortion.

At times, Zeppelin seemed to amaze themselves. “Spectacular!” crowed Plant, turning to Bonham with pride at the end of “Rock and Roll.” As the words “Led Zeppelin” filled the back screen, before the band left the stage for good, Bonham dropped to his knees and bowed, as if to say “I’m not worthy,” In fact, he was, in spades, pushing his elders — hard — in the circle dance “Misty Mountain Hop” and the steady, exotic ascension of “Kashmir.”

It is only fair to point out that there were other performers on the bill, including Foreigner, Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers, Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings and members of Yes and Emerson Lake & Palmer — all squeezed into an hour’s potpourri to pay tribute to Ertegun and his reign at Atlantic, with varying historic accuracy. Rodgers got the first, major ovation of the night, but with a version of his 1969 hit with Free, “All Right Now.” Singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini — the youngest featured act by about twenty-five years — did his best with “Mess Around,” written by Ertegun for Ray Charles, then followed it with “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down),” a 1966 hit for Cher, an Atlantic artist, but on another label. Stranger still, Nutini sang it with a raspy, trilling effect that eerily called to mind a late-Sixties cover of the song by British singer Terry Reid — best known now for being the guy who turned down Page’s offer to be in Zeppelin and suggested Plant instead.

It is also important to note that Zeppelin left the building wiithout making any reference to their future together, if there is one — no “See you next year!” or “Until next time …” The only message they left behind was, “We were the best — and still are.”

The waiting begins again.

Grow up you senior citizen rockers. This music is from the 60s and 70s. Let LZ die like other 70s era bands and not come back and disturb us. I can’t stomach the thought of hearing LZ tracks in more TV commercials – I’ll puke! I used to like LZ too – but I grew up. How about you all?

Andy | 12/11/2007, 10:44 am EST

Please note: Ticketmaster had already billed me a $6.75 Service Charge just to write this.

Led Zep Forever

Stefcat | 12/11/2007, 10:47 am EST

They needed to prove it to themselves – and they did last night. The people have also spoken. Zeppelin will tour again in 2008.

The hormonal rush they must have felt last night provided them with the needed confidence to pursue – and the financial kick, and re-boost of their nostalgic and solid standing in the world of music will carry the certitude of such an event.

So let not worry, and save your penny.
The goosebumps of pure rock will will travel up and down your spine one more time…..

I remember in the 1970’s all the burnouts listened to Zeppelin and I was jealous because these guys at our school yards with their boom boxes BLASTING had the most fun, the most friends and I know the most friends. I wish I could do my teenage years over and I too would have written Zep on the back of my dungaree jacket. Instead of being a goodie TWO shoes.

I love ZEP for all the years it permeated LONG ISLAND, NY.

Robbie O | 12/11/2007, 10:54 am EST

Was there ever a frickn’ doubt?!

I say they will sell out at least 3 shows in Chicago in about 3 minutes.

After missing them in ‘77, I will see them at least twice on “The Ramble On” tour of ‘08!!

Faultless, epic what more can i say, the only thing missing was achilles but they overran by 15 minutes anyway so there was no way they could do it.

Did anyone doubt they could pull it off and dazzle the globe? I saw Led Zeppelin in 1997 at Capital Center in Largo, Md, during a four-night stop. Also saw Page and Plant in ‘95 and ‘98 at Capital Center and MCI Center, respectively, in Washington D.C. Each show was spectacular. We hope with our hearts that they tour the United States one more time. Thanks for music that seems to come from the Temple of Zeus.

Thank you David Fricke for ’seeing the light’ and of course thank you LZ for giving us this gift…no please come back to where we made you Gods!

Alan | 12/11/2007, 11:15 am EST

They did play Achilles Last Stand.

I was lucky enough to be at the gig and David’s review is definitely the one that does the night justice.

The gig was the best thing I have ever seen in my life.

Happy to die now.

dear robert john jason and “james patrick”..

this is a no brainer. you haven’t waited “too long”. it just wasn’t time.

HOWEVER… it IS TIME TO DO IT.
DO IT NOW.

America waits… we’re BEGGING!!!
(besides, if you wait any longer we’ll have to be pushed in our wheelchairs to the gig!!! and/or be too deaf to enjoy it!)

Tyrus | 12/11/2007, 9:24 pm EST

Now Zep is fucking amazing, but i thought this show seemed dismal:
- The only reason Plant could hit his “higher” notes was because they tuned down. and sounded WAY too modern.
-Jason Bonham looked like he tried too hard, Should have been Dave Grohl.
-Page was sloppy (as usual)
-JPJ my man.

otonimo | 12/11/2007, 10:22 pm EST

wow! i hope they do a world tour so i can pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars to get a nose bleed seat in some packed sports stadium. zepplin was awesome, but let it go people. the beatles, rolling stones, led zeppelin, its over. these once great band are now being used to sell us over priced concert tickets, movies, and merchandise. do yourselves a favor and go discover a new band, maybe “the next led zeppelin”?

Britney Spears | 12/11/2007, 10:23 pm EST

When I heard about a Zeppelin reunion, I was one of the haters. Oh, pleeeze, I thought. Just give it a rest and die with some dignity, fellas.

Then, this morning, I heard last night’s version of BLACK DOG on my local radio station. DAMN!!!! It was hot beyond all reason. Jimmy Page brought the guitar thunder like the sorcerer of old. And Plant sounded as good (or better) than he did on the late-period Zeppelin bootlegs.

So I say, have at it, guys. A reunited Zeppelin could bring joy to millions of people and have themselves a blast one last time. If they play as well as they did at the Ertgun show, they could truly go out in a blaze of glory.

miccc | 12/11/2007, 10:57 pm EST

It is a testament to the caliber of talent in the surviving members of Led Zeppelin, that they could be that good WITHOUT the greatest rock drummer that ever lived. Hat’s off to Jason Bonham, you made your father proud and proved you were up to the task of playing with the greatest rock band of all time.

ashis | 12/12/2007, 12:04 am EST

Amazing! they did finally…..the reunion of the dead zepplin.

“The waiting begins again”

I’m glad that they are not commercial………..they are once in a blue moon!

Rock And Roll; Verb, To throw all abandon to the wind, To urge your soul to commnicate with the world, To let it RIPPPP!, To Be Led Zeppelin

as one of the younger generation of Zep fans that never got to see them in concert but stills loves them i have to say that im hoping with all my heart that they come on tour to the states

Chicago Mike | 12/12/2007, 3:32 pm EST

Excellent review of the show. I told my wife I will go up to $3K for tickets. After reading the comments, it looks like I have to sell a kidney. Zep brings folks together.Keep on Rockin’

Jason Moss | 12/12/2007, 7:12 pm EST

Based on what I know of the touring business, I’ll bet that Zep are going to do the States. All the moves they’re making – finally licensing songs to !Tunes, running television commercials, refusing to confirm a tour (which just builds suspense and anticipation) – look to me like the first steps in a mammoth promotional campaign.

And let’s face it, America needs a lift in spirits. We’re facing a recession/depression and the effects of a war-mongering regime. Led Zeppelin storming the stages of the heartland, showing the current crop of “rock and roll” bands how it’s done, would serve as a much-needed panacea.

John Kereiff | 12/12/2007, 7:46 pm EST

It’s weird… I had neither the money for tickets or plane fare, or even a passport to enter the country for the gig. Can anyone explain, then, why it feels so damn good to have Zeppelin back, even if it’s just the one gig? I’m ecstatic, and I wasn’t even there!!
I have a little internet radio show called “Recordland” on Wednesday nights at rosslandradio. com I have turfed the show I had planned for this week to do a 2 hour Zep show, playing studio versions of the set list from O2, interview clips from the disc that came with the “Remasters” 3 cd box, and filling out the rest with songs from “In Through The Out Door” and “Coda”, the only albums not represented at the gig. It’s just my way of saying “Well done lads, welcome back.”
As I told a friend on Tuesday, the events of Monday night make me glad to be a lifelong music fan (I’m nearly 50) and glad to be alive. It would seem that Jimmy’s magick has only grown stronger over the years.

GMANN | 12/12/2007, 8:45 pm EST

God Bless the Zeppelin for bringing the magic to rock n roll. They wrote the book, and now may we have one last chapter. Can’t wait to see the lads in The States. THE ZEPPELIN FLIES AGAIN!!!

Dear Abby | 12/12/2007, 11:16 pm EST

How is the only one who lost his hair Bonham’s? Zep is an good band but a little overrated.

super mario | 12/13/2007, 12:00 am EST

I’m a 48 yr old canadian woman who had the pleasure of seeing zeppelin in Seattle in 1977. Thirty years later I still talk about it like it was yesterday. Just came back from having a beer with friends. Two of my friends daughters attended the concert Monday night. I looked at their pictures and we cried!! These were 20 year old gals who have the same love and appreciation for the band. We’ll all be telling our grandchildren about the time we saw zeppelin LIVE…

Bloe Waters | 12/13/2007, 4:59 am EST

Ashlee Simpson | 12/13/2007, 7:27 am EST

Uhh, I don’t get it…isn’t a bimbo lip-synching some redundant, insipid lyrics to a drum machine and shaking her ass really rock and roll? I have to check with my corporate handlers on this one.

PS Great job men, please allow us the honor of seeing you one more time. America needs a boost now like it did when the Beatles came in ‘64, and you guys can do it. Forget the money, forget the t-shirt sales, just go out and do it and have some fun! Long Live The Kings. Remind us all of how it SHOULD be done.

Chris Weiss | 12/13/2007, 1:37 pm EST

The show was amazing – A few bits David didn’t mention (I thought it was him I saw at Heathrow the next day!)

Plant sported a hardon through most of the beginning of the gig – I’m pretty sure he popped a viagra before hitting the stage :)

The sound guys were miserable – I’ll give them credit for a huge undertaking, but there were far too many feedback issues and A/V miscues through the entire evening.

Page needs to clean up a bit, there was a point where he was silhouetted in front of one of the big stage lights and that thin silver hair flashed me back to the Crypt Keeper – not to mention the heavy drool that showed up 3/4 of the way in (the cameras mercilessly stopped showing straight face shots about then). I think Clapton’s got the right idea, hairdo-wise.

That said, the show was a big honkin’ slice of nirvana, far better than it had any right to be – well worth the pain it took to get there (hotel, flights, and time off were all in place before Jimmy broke his finger and cost muy $$ to change).

chrizzle | 12/13/2007, 1:59 pm EST

What music needs now is a huge slap of Led Zepplin right to the face. Does anybody realize how freakin HUGE a world tour would be by this band? They could sell tickets for $500 a piece and still sell out every venue they get to… in minutes. Maybe the only thing that could even come A MILLION MILES close to topping a Zep tour would be if all four original members of the Beatles got together for one more go around. I don’t see that happening though…

PS Dear Robert Plant, if money doesn’t make up your mind than please do it for us fans!! There is nothing that the band can do to tarnish their legacy. Jimmy and John Paul sound like they would be up for a tour. Show us kids how everything still turns to gold.

Gary Moore | 12/13/2007, 4:20 pm EST

Take it from one who saw the greatest reunion since the south rejoined north, the resuming of Led Zeppelin deserves every ounce of praise. I was there, covering the show for my station, KLOS-FM here in Los Angeles, and will state for the record that this “resumption” of the Zeppelin was the finest, most mind-blowing exhibition of rock & roll I’ve ever
witnessed–including the night I saw them in St. Louis (2/16/75) when some say they were arguably at their peak. The stakes could not have been higher. And yet they rose to this daunting challenge and NAILED it. (If only the same could’ve been said for the sound crew during the first 3 songs–it was emabarrassingly horrid.) They were tight–but loose. They were focused, confident and unrelenting. “Dazed & Confused” and “In My Time Of Dying” were sonic masterpieces and now the new live Led sonic standards. According to my record company sources, there WILL most definitely be a DVD–and probably a companion CD–of the show next year. And the London papers are running wild with New York City show rumors. Don’t be surprised if they indeed do more shows–or if they never perform together again, though it’d be sad if the latter is the case. This band is still THAT phenomenal, clearly. It was a blessing beyond any stairway to receive one of the Golden Tickets for the O2 this past Monday. Wish you all could’ve been there.

Anonymous | 12/13/2007, 9:08 pm EST

These are old men in their 60’s. The original Led Zep that is. Get over it. If they do tour the comparisons to the Rolling Stones will be inevitable.

They aren’t Led Zeppelin without John Bonham. And they said they’d never call themselves that without Bonzo. They’ve gone back on their word. They should be ashamed. Maybe they should tour with the Rolling Stones. Call it The Old Fart Tour.

Leave it alone! Keep your legacy as Led Zeppelin in tact. Don’t tour.

PLEASE do A WEEK at Madison Square Garden if the decision to tour is for real; it’ll sell out in seconds and I for one, would go every night. The fans are dying for your return, this was beyond a tease for those shut out of the lottery. The sorry state of music and the business itself is ripe for the mighty Zep to return to the rescue, to show everyone how it’s done. They nailed it – beyond fantastic. As soon as the gig footage hit the air the morning after, that was it. Nice one guys, long may you rock!! Message to Warner Music Group, if ya want to raise your numbers since you’ve mucked it all up….release the CD & DVD immediately, I’m sure Jimmy and the boys will give you the go….

She answered “You.”

Old enough to know | 12/15/2007, 10:05 am EST

Listen to Zeplin execs, and take heed. Stop whining that music downloads like iTunes are costing you profit.

You are going under because you hire no talent cheesecake FACES who look great on MTV with perfect hair and cheekbones but no damn raw talent or musical mastery like Zep, Stones, Beatles, Who, Joplin, Dylan, etc. Those of an era where TALENT came first, fame second, and looks were a bonus IF you had any. The talent made them HOT. Not vice versa.

Before Execs whine and blame others LOOK in the mirror at what you’ve done to your business yourselves.

There are tons of talented people who will be hot AFTER they are famous! The not so pretty from the ’60’s and ’70’s never lacked for fans or inner sex appeal and sold plenty of hits for your companies.

I can’t see Janis Joplin jiggling in typical Britney Spears style for cameras for MTV (Empty-V). But Janice and all these older groups blow these visual, no talent stars out of the water. When the hot face video is off, and there is only music in the headphones no one wants to listen, the songs don’t stand up over time.

The muzak industry has done itself in, and deserve all they get–or DON’T get anymore.

Had to have been before 1976 (as I moved out of state that year), all of you who plead have a right to do so. I sat eighth row for Zep and couldn’t hear for two weeks after that. Page may have been sloppy, but young and decadently sloppy! I’ll never forget that double neck, him sitting in an oversized speaker, Plant’s cameltoe and no Viagra. Love all bass players and drumming… well I did see Keith Moon with The Who.

And I agree the commercials with Bob Seeger etc etc are amusing and nauseating all at the same time. “I hope I die before I get old”… well that be us who saw these bands 1st time around. My peers are earning 6 figures and living the high life ‘cuz while I was on stage with Frank Zappa, they were laying the groundwork for a career. Personally, I had more fun, I think ( drugs made swiss cheese of my brain, but what a blast!) May you all enjoy who ever is still standing and may they be excellent for you too! DR

Achilles | 12/16/2007, 8:40 pm EST

I’m twenty-one and used to listen to modern rock and some rap. At that time I was immature and unknowledgable.
It was when I finally started to mature and grow interested in what was going on around me that I discovered Led Zeppelin.
I had heard about Stairway to Heaven, so I decided to see what the hype was about. I absorbed the entire album and quickly went on to the other albums.
By the time I first heard The Song Remains the Same (the song, not the live album)I was wondering how anyone could not enjoy such Godly music.
I’m intelligent, young, and mature, and I love Led Zeppelin. To me, the music will never die. The world would lose a bit of it’s soul
if led Zeppelin were forgotten.

Thank god for this show. I witnessed the mighty Zep at Pontiac Silverdome in 77. Like ‘em or not, you couldn’t deny their power and exquisite catalogue.
The Live Aid set was a shambles yet I was pulling for my boys. The Atlantic records reunion in 88, while better, still didn’t satisfy.
I’m glad FINALLY that, should they never perform together again, they can go out with taste and dignity that my favorite band deserves without question.

Thanks guys for 40 years !

Although I got to witness “The Hammer Of The Gods” live in 1977 at New York’s Madison Square Garden for 4 of 6 nights.
Then I got to fly over to London to see them at Knebworth’s second show in 1979,one can only hope for one last Tour Of The Americas after their stunning performance in London.
Thanks Zep for 40 years and hope for one last tour.

Led Zep Opening Act | 1/16/2008, 11:28 am EST

Who will Led Zeppelin have as an opening act on their 2008 US tour??? The rumors have finally been silenced: Plant has personally tapped his illegitimate

son’s band–MEAN VENUS–to open all 2008 shows. MEAN VENUS’ lead singer, J, when recently interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine, spoke of his utter

disbelief at the prospect: “I only found out he [Plant] was my dad a few years ago. My mum hid it from me for the majority of my life. So to actually be

going on the road with my Dad is bloody outrageous!”.

Dee | 1/17/2008, 9:58 am EST

i think this is tru. i have read it in three different places so far. i didnt even know robert had a kid let alone a musician. MEAN VENUS huh? we’ll see. should make the reunion even MORE interesting. ZEPPELIN are Gods!

I was going to see Zep in ‘81 in Minneapolis, but Bonzo left us. I was seventeen and utterly heartbroken. Prayed to the Gods for a winning lottery number…more heartbreak. Made do with rabid consumption of everything to do with the O2 show…Surely the Gods cannot be so cruel by not touring ‘08/’09????? I wish to die an ECSTATIC old lady {in 2100}, I can only do this by seeing Zep LIVE!

Growing up with Zeppelin was a major aspect of my teen yrs and since I never had the chance to see them in concert, this truly would be a dream come true. Granted, Bonzo is no longer with us but his son is certainly no slouch behind the kit. I think the only difficulty with this tour happening will be getting “the golden boy” to commit to doing it just coming off his tour with Allison Kraus. I hope he comes to his senses and realises how HUGE the tour would be and……how many millions of fans they would make happy.

Chandler | 11/7/2008, 2:24 pm EST

That dude from mean venus aint opening for nobody. He died 6 months ago from heroin. I heard that was one of the reasons that Plant isn’t doing the tour too. After this Krauss b.s. he is done. Really ashame the Zep guys can’t honor Plant’s decision and understand that losing your son to heroin is something that most people never emotionally come back from.

RIP J

MEAN VENUS ruled!!!

I’m 15 years old, and I started listening to good music when I was 13. Before that, I would just listen to my local mainstream radio and pretend to like what was on because I figured, “Hey, my friends listen to it.”

I heard Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie, which is when I started to listen to older bands and find mroe music that was appealing to me.

One of the first Led Zeppelin songs that I’d ever heard was When The Levee Breaks, and I was blown away. There were songs such as Black Dog, Heartbreaker, and Communication Breakdown that I’d heard before and not even realized it.

My favorites now are When The Levee Breaks, The Ocean, The Lemon Song, How Many More Times, and I can also play Over the Hills and Far Away, Stairway to Heaven, and Tangerine on guitar.

I’d be so ecstatic to see them in concert. Come to Florida, guys! I don’t care how old they are, they’re just as gorgeous to me now as they were at their peak-it’s the music that matters.

I’d give anything to see them live.
LOVE YOU, ZEPPELIN.

1977, Ft Worth TX, 4th row, floor, seat 26. Ticket price, $21.50
Seeing the pictures of Jimmy with his trusty collectors edition Gold Les Paul brings back some pretty fond memories.
You can’t just state that Led Zepplin was the greatest rock band and capture the essence of driving around with friends, tuning up, and listening to “The Rover”. It’s was an unforgetteable time. It’s sad that people born in the 80s may never get it, but it’s great to see my 18 year old son knocking out Zeppelin tunes on his Fender, walking in and seeing him watching old Zep footage on Youtube, and hearing him say ” Dad… These guys friggin rock”.

This review was very well done and captured the essence of the Led Zeppelin I will always remember.
And Jimmy, ya did it right dude. I will always argue the fact that you were one of the , if not the best axe men of all time.
Long Live Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Robin Trower, Ted Nugent, Angus Young, Eddie Van Halen, Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Junior Brown, Roy Clark, Tony Iommi, and Alex Lifeson. These are the worlds best.
PS, yes, I left off Hendrix. The above mentioned could actually pick. Hendrix couldn’t pick his nose compared to these guys.
