White Stripes To Quit Touring?, OutKast’s Big Boi Rings in New Year with New Single and More

12/10/07, 4:36 pm EST

  • The White Stripes’ Jack White told the Los Angeles Times that the band may never tour again. Can the band still stay successful without promoting albums on the road? “Well, the Beatles did it,” White joked before adding, “if we didn’t ever tour again, it doesn’t matter to me.”
  • OutKast’s Big Boi claims he will the release the first single from his debut solo album Sir Luscious Left Foot at midnight on New Year’s Eve to get 2008 off to a good start. And no, Speakerboxxx does not count as his first solo album.
  • Watch Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam conduct dance rehearsals in the video for “Boy With a Coin,” from this year’s The Shepherd’s Dog
  • A water-main break in the yard outside the Los Angeles home of Eddie Van Halen caused thousands of gallons to flow into a nearby street, stopping traffic for hours. L.A. firemen surrounded the Van Halen household with sandbags to prevent the water from entering the residence. Eddie was not home at the time of the break, as he is currently on tour with Van Halen.
  • Music/video site Imeem and Universal Music Group have struck a deal that will allow the Web site to stream UMG’s entire catalog of digital music and music videos. All four major music companies now have contracts in place with Imeem, which we guess makes it a YouTube that doesn’t piss off record labels.

Night torn mad, you are an idiot. Sy, you are an idiot as well. Saying that Jack has no talent is insane. I promise you that he will be considered one of the greatest songwriters of the modern era. Yes, The Beatles were the greatest and most prolific of all time, but that does not diminish what Jack has accomplished. He is not saying that the Stripes are equal to the Beatles, only that they may be able to succeed without touring. Christ, Steeley Dan pulled off mega-success without ever touring. To reiterate, you are both idiots, and I thought before I spoke.

Night Torn Mad, my post was a response to the post that implied that Jack White has no talent. Nobody, not even i, has implied that they were better than the beatles. However, i am also not ignorant enough to deny that Jack is the seminal rock artist of the past decade. I can not name one American rock musician that is as important as him from the current generation.

I am very familiar with both the beatles and the white stripes body of work (most are only familiar with white stripes’ singles, i am familiar with both band’s catalogs)

The stripes were a god send to people who had lost complete faith in rock, so its rather humourous to me see people who would potentially love them dismiss them without listening to them.

“the white stripes outlasted the beatles and is easily the most important band of this decade by far..”

Outlasted the Beatles? Someone’s obviously dropped acid into your coffee. From 1964-1970, the whole period of being the greatest band in the world, they were more prolific than any other band ever. They completed in seven years time, more than almost band has done in their lifetime (and it’s only one in fact The Rolling Stones).

Years have nothing to do with it. It’s the body of work, and the White Stripes body of work doesn’t even scratch the surface of what the Beatles accomplished.

Some of you should think before they speak and the rest who can’t think (like you) shouldn’t speak at all!

anyone who doesn’t think jack is a talent can hardly be considered a rock fan. i read that bob dylan hand picked jack to finish unfinished hank williams songs and the fact that anything jack has done has been nominated for a grammy(s) every year for the past 5 years or so.

its easy to dismiss something you haven’t bothered to invest time into.

the white stripes outlasted the beatles and is easily the most important band of this decade by far..

any panic at the disco fans care to disagree?

how did you know “sy” was into photos??? he didn’t mention anything thing about them . . . someone’s trying to pull a fast one!!!

It reminds me of the Paul Williams’ lyric, “Talking to myself and feelin’ old . . . ”

And Meg baby, you can do the Joe Cocker thing (drinking a 5th of whiskey just before he hit the stage to loosen you up!!!

It would really be a shame if she couldn’t overcome her stage anxiety because she’s so great!

Look, Sy the photo guy…he mentioned it jokingly. And let’s face it, there will never be another Beatles, so, leave the guy alone….he has many great years ahead of him

luke | 12/10/2007, 8:03 pm EST

outkast is not one person

sy | 12/10/2007, 7:02 pm EST

Mr White don’t compare yourself to the Beatles. you see one band had talent, and i don’t think it’s hard to figure out which one
