u better change this f-ing list now cause it sucks

Evan | 1/27/2009, 10:02 am EST

where the hell is rush

Evan | 1/27/2009, 10:02 am EST

why trhe hell is snakes and arrows by rush not on this list. Its the best album of 2007. Most of those artists on the list are garbage, especially Springsteen. This list sucks without Rush on the list.

The Swammi | 8/17/2008, 8:05 pm EST

I know these list’s are subjective, but why isn’t Seether’s “Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces” included here? That CD kicks a$$! BTW…..the Foo Fighter’s “Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace” should be ranked much higher than #12. IMHO

ashish | 7/20/2008, 7:16 am EST

where is linkin park’s m.t.m

Alex | 7/4/2008, 1:19 am EST

Lol… guys.. why do you all fight bout the picks… to each his own music is a personal thing.. what you think sucked will be awsome for the next and vice versa. Just learn to appreciate all types of music and if your best buddy is listening to a song that you think sucks ttly and you can’t stand it… just walk away :P

David rocker | 1/24/2008, 10:59 am EST

what the fuck, didn’t you listen Grinderman and their album “Grinderman”, is one of the best albums of 2007…

Ryan | 1/23/2008, 9:10 pm EST

RE: HonestJohn

No, I definitely agree with Devon. HonestJohn, stop trying so hard to be difficult so you can stand out more. Kanye’s graduation was my favorite rap album of 2007 next to the release of Tupac’s THUG and LIFE discs, and I am a rap connoisseur. Plus, Our Love To Admire, if you pulled your head out of your ass, was equally as high-quality as Antics and TOTBL. Just because it came out third, you feel you must bash it.

Listen to music more than once sometime in your life, who knows? You might actually get good taste.

Honest John | 12/29/2007, 5:35 pm EST

re: Devon

You’re a jackass. Try and defend him if you want, but Kanye is the next Skee-Lo. The guy doesn’t even write his own rhymes. Also, I think you’re confusing sampling with stealing. Sampling is what Panda Bear did with the Cat Stevens guitar line in “Bros.” However, taking a Daft Punk song, rapping (horribly) over it, and putting your name on it has nothing to do with sampling. He shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as Ghostface or his boss. But I’m arguing with a guy that liked “Our Love To Admire,” (far and away the worst thing Interpol has ever done). You should have jumped on that bandwagon about 4 years ago. You are clearly just a trendfucker that likes whatever you are told to.

Honest John | 12/29/2007, 4:08 pm EST

re: Devon

You’re a jackass. Kanye doesn’t even write most of his own rhymes. BTW, I’ve heard the album. I don’t diss things I’ve never heard. Anyway, you liked “Our Love to Admire” (by far the worst album Interpol has made), so there’s not much point in arguing with you. You are clearly just a trendfucker who likes what he is told to.

Devon Robinson | 12/28/2007, 10:40 pm EST

Hey, you kids(and I mean that)that are calling Kanye West overrated…get off your high horse.. The guy is doing what hip hop, mainstream that is, has been lacking for about…5 years…and that’s release something with some actual intelligence in it.. You can down the fella all you want for the sampling and what not…but if you actually listen to the whole album…He spits mad rhymes through the entire album.. Better than your 50 Cent, your Jay-Z(yep, he did better than Jay this year), and Common… So please…please… Shut the hell up if you don’t know what you’re talking about… You’re obviously pissed at the guy for his personality(which he’s definitely toned down over the years).. but actually listen to the album before you start judging it..

Oh yeah..

Interpol - Our Love to Admire should be up there..

and Radiohead was THE album of the year.

dustin | 12/27/2007, 2:49 am EST

Where is Thrice? The Alchemy Index Vols 1 & 2: Fire and Water was one of the best albums I have heard in a very long time. It is a lyrical and instrumental masterpiece.

musicafficionado | 12/24/2007, 1:29 pm EST

Where the hell is Paris Hilton’s album? It’s better than anything on that stupid list.

kakan | 12/23/2007, 10:33 am EST

Honest John | 12/20/2007, 3:59 am EST

No Panda Bear Person Pitch (one of the warmest, most beautiful records of the millenium)!! What about Animal Collective, or Ghostface??!! I used to be a Rollingstone fan, but you guys are really becoming irrelevant. On a side note, Kanye West does not rap on beat, writes weak rhymes, is insanely arrogant, and is seriously overrated as a producer -Stronger was not sampling, it was THEFT. I’m nobody, but here’s my list. Please pull your heads out of your asses…

1 Panda Bear-Person Pitch
2 LCD Soundsystem-Sound of Silver
3 Animal Collective-Strawberry Jam
4 Of Montreal-Hissing Fauna…?
5 Radiohead-In Rainbows
6 Dan Deacon-Spiderman of the Rings
7 Ghostface Killah-Big Doe Rehab
8 Deerhoof-Friend Opportunity
9 Iron & Wine-The Shepherd’s Dog
10 Feist-The Reminder

King V | 12/19/2007, 11:49 pm EST

Mice job of screwing up the list. seriously having Brittney in there? Leaving QOTSA, Blonde Redhead, Interpol, Modest Mouse, and even Paramore out just so that Brits piece of crap album got a spot is disturbing.

chinaski | 12/19/2007, 10:57 pm EST

tegan and sara, tv on the radio, and albert hammond jr all made great music and you showed no love.

no lupe? | 12/19/2007, 10:54 pm EST

rolling stone released their best of 2007 lists too song. the new lupe fiasco album is the album of the year.

Mauricio O. | 12/19/2007, 6:40 pm EST

Britney Spears BLACKOUT deserves to be on the top 10. Her best album, and many of the hits for 2008. All this while a custody battle and media scrutiny….she deserves to be in the top 10.

Tommylee | 12/19/2007, 4:19 pm EST

Tori Amos - American Doll Posse

josh | 12/19/2007, 1:41 pm EST

Tegan and Sara - The Con is a great album

Moops | 12/19/2007, 11:12 am EST

Ram Vylo | 12/19/2007, 6:14 am EST

Why there is no GRAHAM PARKER ,RICHARD THOMPSON & IAN HUNTER

Wini | 12/19/2007, 2:59 am EST

No Eagles, ha? Well, what do we expect from Rolling Stone … The old feud never ends.

djmusicK | 12/18/2007, 11:29 pm EST

Arctic Monkeys - Favourite…
Eddie Vedder - Into The Wild
Linkin Park - Minutes To Midnight
Interpol - Our Love To Admire

tecumseh | 12/18/2007, 10:50 pm EST

i’m a huge smashing pumpkins fan, but really, what the hell is zeitgeist doing on that list? eddie vedder’s soundtrack was much more impressionable. good job with the radiohead and nine inch nails spots, though. i’d hoped some people recognized that they’re still as important to music today as they were 10 years ago.

Chuck | 12/18/2007, 4:22 pm EST

Despite both getting great reviews too…of course when does that matter at the end of the year? It’s all votes I guess. Tsk Tsk…

Chuck | 12/18/2007, 4:19 pm EST

Wow…

Just got my copy of RS today.

I had commented on here earlier that I trusted in RS to be smart enough to have Justice and Silverchair somewhere on their list…I was dead wrong. Neither showed up in their 50. Tsk Tsk…not. very. cool.

holy shit | 12/18/2007, 3:13 pm EST

dear matt,
you have the worst taste ever.

aquadonia | 12/18/2007, 12:35 pm EST

Porcupine Tree’s “Fear Of A Blank Planet” and PJ Harvey’s “White Chalk” not on the list?? What a shame. Especially Porcupine Tree. It’s my Best of 2007. *sighs*

alex | 12/18/2007, 11:24 am EST

The new Public Enemy album.

Augusto | 12/18/2007, 8:21 am EST

Zeitgeist is a really great album… I’m not in In Rainbows…

Ahhh

Carnavas (SSPU) was released on JULY 26, 2006. 2006!

chris price | 12/17/2007, 11:47 pm EST

they said they were gonna announce the best albums of 07 today. they lied.

Matt | 12/17/2007, 9:53 pm EST

1. Porcupine Tree- Fear of a Blank Planet
2. Machine Head- The Blackening
3.Neurosis- Given to the Rising
4. Rush- Snakes and Arrows
5. Dream Theater- Systematic Chaos
6. Blackfield- Blackfield II
7. Between the Buried and Me- Colors
8. Radiohead- In Rainbows
9. Coheed and Cambria- No World for Tomorrow
10. Behemoth- The Apostasy

I guess Rolling Stone is only good for telling us the best COMMERCIAL albums of the year.

Anonymous | 12/17/2007, 8:34 pm EST

Dinosaur Jr. new album, man. You forgot about Dinosaur Jr.

Sean | 12/17/2007, 1:22 pm EST

Not a bad list, and some people will probably scoff at this (despite the fact that they’ve never heard the band), but “The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi” by the Receiving End of Sirens definitely should have been on there somewhere. Top 20, easy, even though it was my personal #1 (tied with the Boss’ latest).

rational | 12/17/2007, 11:12 am EST

porcupine tree- “fear of a blank planet”
hurt- “volume II”
dream theater- “systematic chaos”

White Elephant | 12/17/2007, 11:04 am EST

White Chalk by PJ Harvey.

ASDF | 12/17/2007, 9:39 am EST

Zeitgeist is a good album, most people saying it sucks haven’t even listened to it.

Mr. Tim | 12/17/2007, 8:36 am EST

“Life in Cartoon Motion” — Mika

“Neon Bible” — Arcade Fire

Chris | 12/16/2007, 10:03 pm EST

A strong list, particularly for readers, who typically go with album-rock oriented white bands.

Stop all you Kanye haters! The man is undeniably brilliant. Your dislike reeks of anti-rap, instead of anti-bad music.

As for me, I’m glad to see some suprises (Plant and Kraus, Vedder’s soundtrack, The National). I’d put Bruce at the top, but I’m one of those weirdos that thinks he’s a quality artist who shouldn’t be shunted aside just because he’s older than say 30.

dpr | 12/16/2007, 5:33 pm EST

The Shins - “Wincing the Night Away” (my favorite of the last TWO years)
Kings of Leon - “Because of the Times”
The Arcade Fire - “Neon Bible”
Band of Horses - “Cease to Begin”
Silverchair - “Young Modern”
The White Stripes - “Icky Thump”
Jimmy Eat World - “Chase This Light”
Bloc Party - “Weekend in the City”

boatman | 12/15/2007, 7:46 pm EST

Silverchair should be on list.

chris price | 12/15/2007, 5:26 pm EST

that spoon record is probably the best record this year, or tied with radiohead. it would probably look something like this:

1. spoon/radiohead
3. wilco
4. white stripes
5. once soundtrack
6. new pornographers
7. shins
8. paul mccartney (if you DELETE the first three songs)
9. arcade fire
10. feist (?)

yo bb tuck suck | 12/15/2007, 12:26 pm EST

this list SERIOUSLY needs bloc party’s “a weekend in the city”. It’s by far the best album of the year.
also, arctic monkeys “favourite worst nightmare” and lupe fiasco’s “the cool”

Music Fan | 12/15/2007, 4:16 am EST

No Alcest, Animal Collective, CunningLynguists, Porcupine Tree, Between The Buried and Me, Daft Punk, Burial, Ulver etc?

Fail list is fail.

Alita Kelly | 12/15/2007, 2:11 am EST

thank god someone cares about KOL, “beacause of the times” was by far one of the greatest albums of the year it got the right placement

Chuck | 12/14/2007, 9:29 pm EST

Good job on Radiohead though…

Chuck | 12/14/2007, 8:10 pm EST

Kanye is one of the most overrated jackasses around. No Justice? No Silverchair? I kinda figured since it’s a reader’s poll, but I hope RS is smart enough to put both those somewhere in their list

what? | 12/14/2007, 6:11 pm EST

no order:
im not there: various artists
zeigeist: smashing pumpkins
magic: springsteen (best of the year)
because of the time: kings of leon (2nd best of the year)
icky thump: white stripes
era vulgaris: QOTSA

Grayson | 12/14/2007, 4:44 pm EST

the list is pretty good. my top six in no particular order:

Beck: the Information (is that this year?)
Amy Winehouse: Back to Black
Nine Inch Nails: Year Zero
Bruce Springsteen: Magic
Norah Jones: Not Too Late
Whitestripes: Ickythump

Stu | 12/14/2007, 3:12 pm EST

This list is so predictible, you could have taken the poll in January before any were released and come pretty close. The only surprise is the Krauss/Plant wrekkid.

chris | 12/14/2007, 2:26 pm EST

Maybe the KOL album isn’t top ten, but their live show certainly is. After seeing them live it changes the way you hear their albums.

Brien Comerford | 12/14/2007, 11:11 am EST

Steve Vai’s instrumental “Sound Theories” Cd is dynamic. His peerless guitar virtuosity is brillantly augmented be a professional orchesta. “For The Love of God” and other gems are highlights. Vai’s a mystic, a beekeeper, a vegetarian and the only guitarist in the same league as Jeff Beck.

Brien Comerford | 12/14/2007, 11:03 am EST

“Sound Theories” by peerless guitar virtuoso, Steve Vai, was a fantastic CD. His dynamic guitar riffs majestically blended with a full orchestra. Vai’s a mystic, a beekeeper and a vegetarian. The only guitarist in his league is the inimitable Jeff Beck.

LithiumDawn | 12/14/2007, 9:42 am EST

Where is Porcupine Tree’s “Fear of A Blank Planet” and Sage Francis’ “Human the Death Dance”???

Oh wait, you guys only go with trends. You’re missing a lot of great, great music that you as a respected music magazine is downright responsible for bringing to the forefront, instead of this embarrasing pretty-boy-with-eyeliner nonsense and 3rd rate rap wannabes.

Doyourememberrocknrollradio? | 12/14/2007, 4:56 am EST

Ok first thing i wanna say is bout your choice for songs of the year. HORRIBLE man i mean last year you guys were good and made some great choices. Gnarls Barkley at number one? Great choice, it was a hit original catchy memorable. But now you put some third rate Jay Z song on their? Are yo serious? What about all the great songs from good musicians this year Bodysnatchers, You don’t know what love is? D is for dangerous? Tick Tick Boom? I mean most of your choices were for rap. Why? this was the worst year for rap everywhere if Kanye hadn’t put out an album it wouldnt have been a year and where were the hives or the killers or the arctic monkeys or the kings of leon? I mean they all made some good songs this year better than 90% of that hip hop stuff. Tranquilize? Great song man and you guys put Nickelback on! I mean it may be number one but for god sakes if you are really going to tell us the music loving community that you think Nickelback had a great song this year can we really take you seriously? Where are your balls at? Hunter wrote for you guys man! Lester Bangs wrote for you! and thats what you gives us? Nickelback and Fergie with some of the best songs but no rock n roll? Bruce said it best this year too bad you guys weren’t listening. I wanna hear some rhythm and i hate to tell you everyone but that rhythm does not come from Rolling Stone Magazine anymore.

kyosti | 12/14/2007, 1:23 am EST

u guys all know this isnt the actual list right?! Its based on what the readers (us) said, so maybe it was your fault that u didnt constantly repe

WHERE THE HELL IS SEVENDUST????

….and Velvet Revolver blows btw.

recordbreaker | 12/13/2007, 2:20 pm EST

Bruce Springsteen’s “Magic” is just that. At almost 60, he has managed to put out two 5 star classic albums (The Rising and Magic) in this decade. Who else has done that in their 50s, and still be able to put on the best live show out there like he and the E Street Band do?
Magic is the album of the year hands down. Nothing defines the time better. And Bruce is the greatest American artist of all time. He has answered any doubters with his unbelieveable resurgance this decade. Go Boss!

jason | 12/13/2007, 2:04 pm EST

ben harper’s lifeline was a beautiful record and should definitly be on this list

byahh!! | 12/13/2007, 2:03 pm EST

this list is pretty decent

the thing i noticed though is that no one even mentioned the spot of the shins

says alot

the reason they aren’t any higher is because it came out in february.

BAND OF HORSES - Cease to Begin

nic | 12/13/2007, 12:52 pm EST

Yay RADIOHEAD!

T-Cap | 12/13/2007, 12:28 pm EST

Please, to all those who say In Rainbows was overrated…it is by far the best piece of music this year…pure genius.

RS will give anything Springsteen uts out five stars. He’s good, but his album shouldn’t be in the top ten. The Smashing Pumpkins album was a travesty. Glad Eddie Vedder’s soundtrack album made it, it’s pure excellence.

Sigur Ros’s Hwarf-Heim should have made it. Sure, it’s not an “album” like the others, but it’s an amazing piece of music.

George | 12/13/2007, 12:13 pm EST

Good list overall, Smashing Pumpkins deserve to be right about where they are, as there is a bit of inconsisency there, but if there is a glaring emissionon your list, it’s got to be the absence of The Hives new CD (Black and White Album), though I suspect the timing of the release may be to blame.

Future Generation | 12/13/2007, 10:29 am EST

Good choise! Best album of the year: RADIOHEAD - IN RAINBOWS!..

james | 12/13/2007, 9:16 am EST

“Luvandmusiq”, for real!

charliemapleton(aka CM Funk) | 12/13/2007, 6:22 am EST

I said it before, and i’ll say it again: This is a well-crafted(and eventually fair) Rock List. Only one problem: As I am just now getting up for work and to my beloved 105.3 WDAS FM(which is a contemporary soul station in Philly)I notice a very familiar, occasionally Quiet Storm clasic from 1987. Which leads the question:

Prince
“Planet Earth”

What’s really good?

don | 12/13/2007, 5:21 am EST

bloc party??

Lil' Obama | 12/13/2007, 5:17 am EST

Musiq Soulchild’s “Luvandmusiq” and Keyshia Cole’s “Just Like You” deserve their rightful spots as well-nonetheless they’ve become instant classics. And no disrespect to my fellow Chitown rep Kanye West, but the incomparable Jay Z deserves top billing as well. He has all the pride, power, and perks of a real man in charge-much like my dad*smiles*. It’s obvious several more platinum records and an exclusive 2009 whip won’t be enough icing on the cake.

JD | 12/13/2007, 2:40 am EST

I’m shocked at how right on this list is.

Jenny Jefferson | 12/13/2007, 1:45 am EST

Pretty sharp list. Amy Winehouse’s “Back To Black” was both distinctive and dare- to- be- different, but Lily Allen’s “Alright, Still” was very astounding and the creme de la creme. Real talk, Lily Allen’s “Alright, Still” deserves to have a spot. And we can’t forget about two magnificent crooners whom amazed us with two magnificent albums:Musiq Soulchild’s “Luvandmusiq” and Ne*Yo’s “Because Of You”.

okayplayer2 | 12/12/2007, 11:54 pm EST

Sho ’nuff, you cannot knock “Luvandmusiq”, the best r&b album of the year. It’s perfect for college parties, bar mitzvahs, barbeques, it just pure quality goodtime material. And what is this:no Sean Price nor Jay Z? That’s worse than when I caught my son feeding his rabbit my ‘dro. Good looking out on putting the future of indie pop/soul Amy Winehouse on the list.

ganJoe | 12/12/2007, 11:26 pm EST

8 Diagrams, nuff said, kanye sucks, why is he fooling all of you indie rock fans! The guy isn’t no genius lyricist, his flow is off-tempo, and he is soooo full of himself. If he is our Tupac, please kill me know, cuz all this guy is good at is being a biatch and he’s an alright producer. Get off the guys jock, he’s not all that good, it’s the same with jay-Z, these losers aren’t legends, and in 15 yrs they will be judged correctly, as HACKS!

okayplayer1 | 12/12/2007, 11:05 pm EST

Musiq Soulchild’s “Luvandmusiq” should absolutely be on the list. He managed to once again bring that old, sentimental magic which modern r&b is responsible for spreading. This was, and is, the type of soul stirring/searching ear candy which keeps the fans and industry wanting more.

zenidog | 12/12/2007, 11:05 pm EST

no Hissing Fauna?!!!!!

pfft. fuck radiohead

anno | 12/12/2007, 10:32 pm EST

go the mouses. I’m not complaining with the list, i mean not perfect for me but its pretty fucking sweet with some supprises.

Jamie | 12/12/2007, 10:30 pm EST

Ok as much as i hate to say it but 90% of Radiohead after OK Computer is complete shit. And Nine Inch Nails after The Fragile hasnt been to good. With Teeth was ok though. But wheres The Hives on here their great. And The Arctic Monkeys should rank higher.

Joe | 12/12/2007, 9:51 pm EST

Im so proud of you guys for gettin the Eddie Vedder soundtrack in, prob is better than 21 but good enough. Now when are you gonna start letting everyone know that PEARL JAM is by far the best Live Band in the World… You talk about these other bands bootlegs here and there.. WHAT ABOUT PJ’S?? Their shows are amazing!! CMON…

Mr November | 12/12/2007, 9:38 pm EST

Boxer by The National is way better than #16………Neon Bible is by far #1 on this list………good to see Wilco so high………that is correct…….

TeddyB | 12/12/2007, 9:36 pm EST

Pretty good list.

I agree with whomever said Silverchair “Young Modern” should make the list - it is a very solid album. Also, I happen to like “Libertad” by VR, but not sure if it is one of my faves for the year.

spinalcracker | 12/12/2007, 7:53 pm EST

1. in rainbows-radiohead
2. Year zero-nine inch nails
3. Era vulgarus-queens of the stone age
4. Because of the times-kings of leon
5. Sound of silver-lcd soundsystem
Wanted to like the pumpkins joint, can’t get past the fact it was a steaming pile of shit. Icky thump would be second on this years dissapointments, and the spurcesteen album is an enjoyable listen but it’s not the classic everyone is making it out to be.
All in all, one of the better years in music since the early 90’s. Yorke and co. Really came through (arpeggi goes down as one of my fav records ever) reznor is finally going where I thought he would have been post tds. The queens disk shows homme never went anywhere, kol are my wild card this year, and lcd reminds me how poor my dance moves are.

Hogie | 12/12/2007, 7:26 pm EST

Machine Head the blackening
Megadeth United Abominations

please consider | 12/12/2007, 7:08 pm EST

Come on Rollingstone. Don’t screw the pooch, include Kevin Drew’s Spirit If… on the final list. It received a great review from your mag and everyone else liked it. Just because it wasn’t at the forefront of discussion doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be acknowledged. It’s a great album- just don’t forget about it.

dave grohl | 12/12/2007, 6:53 pm EST

my newest album does not deserve to be on this list nor does fuckin’ spoon.

newt | 12/12/2007, 6:48 pm EST

not a bad list, overall. i would have liked to see Fear of a Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree, however.

s | 12/12/2007, 6:43 pm EST

great list

Bevan in SLC | 12/12/2007, 6:26 pm EST

Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon by Devendra Banhart is amazing and should be on the list. Our Love to Admire by Interpol should be as well.

Cool | 12/12/2007, 6:24 pm EST

I am surprised that some of my favorites made the list as they are not generally popular (i.e. Bright eyes) but the list is pretty good compared to the garbage that sells/tops the charts.

Kinda Ready | 12/12/2007, 6:06 pm EST

I’ve heard Velvet revolver good and Arcade Fire bad from some people, what backwords world have I arrived in.

Kinda Ready | 12/12/2007, 6:04 pm EST

Vedder no, rilo no, sorry paul no, where is P,B&J-writer’s block?

Kinda Ready | 12/12/2007, 6:02 pm EST

Replace zietgiest with american gangster, MIA should be higher, Kanye should be higher

The Pig In Zen | 12/12/2007, 4:59 pm EST

While not all my cup of tea, this list shows a lot of relative depth. Makes me wonder, Rolling Stone, why you bother putting trendy dreck like Fall Out Boy, Britney Spears, Maroon 5 or PANIC!!!1! At the Disco on your cover when your readers interests are elsewhere.

w/e | 12/12/2007, 4:20 pm EST

zeitgeist is amazing, your delusional

gk | 12/12/2007, 4:04 pm EST

zeitgeist is absolute garbage

scott hall | 12/12/2007, 3:46 pm EST

I’m actually surprised at how many of my top 20 picks made it! Apparently some people agree with me on some things.
Though something tells me I’m gonna get screwed over on the mag’s picks. And the “best songs of ‘07″ list should be interesting too.

Ziggy | 12/12/2007, 2:57 pm EST

List looks good, except I agree with most people in that the Arctic Monkeys need to be moved up.
I think I’d probably drop my darling Wilco down one to make room. Favorite Worst Nightmare was definatly one of my favorite records this year.

luke | 12/12/2007, 2:42 pm EST

sound of silver is the best album of the year

then in rainbows comes in second

the authority | 12/12/2007, 1:55 pm EST

where’s lily allen and the good, the bad, and the queen?
glaring omissions. remember, damon albarn has a top ten album every year

Michael | 12/12/2007, 1:38 pm EST

To all you whiners out there: If your band didn’t make the list, it’s because of a general consensus that the album just isn’t that good. It’ll be ok…..
A lot of my favorites didn’t make it either, but I accept it because the readers have spoken.
Linkin Park should be on the list….that gave me the laugh of the day…

Matt | 12/12/2007, 12:59 pm EST

I’m sorry, say what you want about Linkin Park, but it’s absolutely insane that Minutes to Midnight didn’t make the cut. Other than that, the list looks good.

charliemapleton(aka CM Funk) | 12/12/2007, 12:52 pm EST

Apparently this is a well-crafted list so far. I’m at least happy to see Miss Winehouse earn her rightful spot on there. She’s one of the latest singers to make heartbreak and redemption sound so smooth and hypnotic-and there’s less drama too. Just regular sip-some-Irish blend-on-your-posh-Jennifer-Convertibles-couch-type-music. Strictly another true MVP as well.

mike | 12/12/2007, 10:50 am EST

radiohead and in rainbows is NOT overrated. It completely deserves the first place step.
if you haven’t heard it go listen to it.

matt | 12/12/2007, 10:26 am EST

A good list overall. I’m glad to see Smashing Pumpkins on the list. I believe the album received some unfair criticism. Sure the whole multiple releases was lame, but at the end of the day, it was a solid album.

Paranoid Android | 12/12/2007, 10:21 am EST

nice list nice wilco album but many people havent heard it yet

RS never dissapoints

ched | 12/12/2007, 5:46 am EST

bloc party, feist, les savvy fav,
talib kweli ????
Radiohead deserve it though

charliemapleton(aka CM Funk) | 12/12/2007, 4:20 am EST

My bad on the first post y’all-damn Blackberry reduced my ish!

charliemapleton(aka CM Funk) | 12/12/2007, 4:02 am EST

I’m personally disappointed Musiq and Ghetto Irresistable herself, Keyshia Cole didn’t make the list. Two undoubtedly multi-talented vocalists whom simply accomplished reaching five star gold and platinum status again, punishing those skillfully deprived orphans known as ringtone rappers, of course relentlessly making r&b history, and not one well-glorified certification? And the most paralyzing low blow, NO SHAWN CARTER?!?!? Russell Simmons help us all!!!!

Just kidding on the last part.Seriously though, I would say the same for both the unmistakable tandem of James Morrison and Lily Allen, basically all five were(and still are) evidently the true MVP’s this year. Besides, they’ll all get the prize at the Grammys. For now, Peace & Goodwill to all.

Support local music by the way.

aaron | 12/12/2007, 3:29 am EST

Jack White should be number 3. He is amazing. I saw him in concert and if cloning were possible then we would have a band that would be the next Led Z.

charliemapleton(aka CM Funk) | 12/12/2007, 3:12 am EST

I’m personally disappointed Musiq and Ghetto Irresistable herself, Keyshia Cole didn’t make the list. Two undoubtedly multi-talented vocalists whom accomplished simply reaching gold and platinum status again, punishing those skillfully deprived orphans known as ringtone rappers, and above all

Tuohy | 12/12/2007, 2:17 am EST

radiohead is electronic garbage

Tuohy | 12/12/2007, 2:16 am EST

where are the meat puppets, dinosaur jr, and babyshambles

sharp white | 12/12/2007, 2:16 am EST

screw velvet revolver and maroon 5. they absolutely blow.
id change that top 10 quite a bit…

McLovin | 12/12/2007, 1:50 am EST

Eddie Vedder needs to be higher on this list. His Into the Wild soundtrack is amazing!

sharp white | 12/12/2007, 1:24 am EST

new pumpkins, eddie vedder blow.
id definitely change the top 10 around, it sucks.

Adam | 12/12/2007, 12:45 am EST

The National and Spoon definentley deserve their spots but no Bloc Party??? It must be a typo….

Dmouth | 12/12/2007, 12:32 am EST

There is no way an album by “The Smashing Pumpkins” could ever be better than anything Ed Vedder puts out. Actually, nothing except Radiohead can be better than something he does. When will RollingStone respect him, or the band he is in, for what they do? It kind of relates back to the way they always choose everything Beatles over the Rolling Stones, everything Dylan over Neil Young, etc.

TT | 12/12/2007, 12:30 am EST

Mamet = Billy Corgan

In Rainbowwwwws!! I had no doubt it would top the list. RollingStone readers have good taste.

Mamet | 12/11/2007, 11:56 pm EST

The Pumpkins’ new album rocked!
They so deserve to be on the list. All tracks put together from the Zeitgeist releases make not only a Top Twenty Record but a Top Five! ‘Tarantula’ is hands down the best rock song of the year.

St. Robinson | 12/11/2007, 10:57 pm EST

Silverchair’s album ‘Young Modern’ should be on the list.

boatman | 12/11/2007, 10:53 pm EST

Silverchair’s album ‘Young Modern’ should be on the list.

reggie | 12/11/2007, 10:37 pm EST

man some people are just haters. i think the list is ideal and i wouldn’t change a thing, although i was disapointed that the hives didn’t make it. Radioheads “in raindbows” is a gift from the heavens, and anyone who thinks kanye is overrated is just plain foolish. I despise rap music, but even i can’t deny that mr. west is one of the most talened people in today’s industry. kudos to the list.

cd | 12/11/2007, 10:28 pm EST

fuck yeah no britany spears haha…

plus good call on leaveing velvet revolver off i loved their first one but liberated was just messy and unexciting…made me angry i wasted my money on the peice of shit

fn rebel | 12/11/2007, 9:53 pm EST

the white stripes and HIMs venus doom

Beckafella | 12/11/2007, 9:27 pm EST

Couldn’t agree more with the people that think the Arctic Monkey’s latest is the album of the year. You disagree? You’re a Teddy Picker.

dylan wilde | 12/11/2007, 8:46 pm EST

where the hell is tegan and sara?!?

Ed | 12/11/2007, 7:59 pm EST

Glenn Mercer’s Wheels In Motion,
Teddy Thompson’s Up Front and Down Low, and Mary Weiss’ Dangerous Game should all be on here.

Schram | 12/11/2007, 7:39 pm EST

They Might Be Giants “The Else” #1

JR | 12/11/2007, 7:34 pm EST

high school musical 2?

;)

Radioescucha | 12/11/2007, 7:28 pm EST

I would have picked Josh Ritter’s album, it’s amazing

Radioescucha | 12/11/2007, 7:28 pm EST

I would have picked Josh Ritter’s album, it’s amazing

John Heckman Wright | 12/11/2007, 7:08 pm EST

I have to say, I’m sad that Bloc Party’s “A Weekend in the City” did not make this list.

axl rose | 12/11/2007, 6:39 pm EST

ya go white stripes

Smith | 12/11/2007, 6:16 pm EST

I’m a little baffled that Feist didn’t make this list. Her album was solid through and through. Likewise Against Me!’s new record. But I suppose they got enough props over the year and I’m sure they will show up in the RS list. Even if listeners don’t get it.

Nathan | 12/11/2007, 5:04 pm EST

Where the heck is Silverchair - Young Modern. That’s my #1 pick, anyone who listens to it loves it.

Kate | 12/11/2007, 4:59 pm EST

No Tegan & Sara?

but overrated crybaby Kanye makes the list?

St. Robinson | 12/11/2007, 4:57 pm EST

Hey JT, glad to see there’s another Truckers fan on this board. One or both of those albums really should’ve been on that list.

But we KNOW “Brighter Than Creation’s Dark” will be on next year’s.

veronica | 12/11/2007, 4:42 pm EST

first of all, I totally agree that velvet revolver should have been on the list. Thier album was ten times better than their last album, and way better than some of the other albums that came out this year. Secondly, Arctic Monkeys should have been in the top 10. Thier album was the best album I’ve heard this year, and it was way better than the Kings of Leon album. Don’t get my wrong I like Kings of Leon, but compare to the Arctic Monkeys, their album wasn’t that great. I suggest that you switch Kings of Leon with Arctic Monkeys, and that will be the 25 best albums of 07. In the right order.

JT | 12/11/2007, 4:32 pm EST

No mention of Jason Isbell’s “Sirens of the Ditch” or Bettye LaVette’s “Scene of the Crime”?

I’ve seen worse lists, but this could definitely be better. But as somebody else says, Rolling Stone is trying to sell magazines, not promote the best music out there.

Tas | 12/11/2007, 4:28 pm EST

how could you not even put up the best album of the year…The Hives “Black & White Album” other than that though the list is pretty good

Yoda McCheese | 12/11/2007, 4:24 pm EST

The People Have Spoken…
Radiohead…. FUCK YEAH!

Jon | 12/11/2007, 4:20 pm EST

Good as long as Queens of the stone age are on there, but I dont think Foo fighters should be right behind them, cuz that album isnt aS good as their normal material…

John | 12/11/2007, 4:18 pm EST

The Good The Bad and the Queen should be in the top 10….and it isn’t even on the list…..smashing pumpkins and Queens of the Stone Age were huge letdowns….

Macfisto | 12/11/2007, 3:46 pm EST

Hey! 4 of the top 6 albums are from 4 of my top 6 bands! (the other 2 not releasing anything in 2007)…so I am happy with these choices! :-) )

jeff in sac | 12/11/2007, 3:21 pm EST

Are you kidding, no one has even mentioned Rogue Waves cd “asleep at heavens gate” Take a listen to “better than therapy” or even their single”lake Michigan”

Ask Rolling stone why they exert so much time reviewing crap that targets teenagers who buy records that will be forgotten next week. They didn’t even look at Rogue waves cd as it isn’t going to sell millions of copies.
I’m a huge springsteen fan and it hurts to say this , but this little band deserves to be listed as one the the top 25 albums of the year…and my pick as the album of 2007

Josh P | 12/11/2007, 3:00 pm EST

Clearly, the writer of this list didn’t hear Fountains of Wayne’s Traffic and Weather.

redrum chick | 12/11/2007, 2:43 pm EST

Neil Young yes
Paul McCartney no
BRUUUUUUUUUUUUCE

redrum chick | 12/11/2007, 2:43 pm EST

Neil Young yes
Paul McCartney no

tony uncle al | 12/11/2007, 1:55 pm EST

where is band of horses - cease to begin???

Slong | 12/11/2007, 9:44 am EST

Smashing Pumpkins clearly not deserving of this list, and I never see the greatness of LCD soundsystem. Radiohead album is good for post bends radiohead, but not even close to number 1. And I love the boss, Magic was a good album, but some of the songs sound almost exactly alike. Not really deserving of such a high mark, although it would probably chart on my list.

Blackmath | 12/11/2007, 9:06 am EST

But I loved to listen to the new Joss Stone record. The album deserves recognition.

Blackmath | 12/11/2007, 9:01 am EST

Kanye West is over-rated for sure. Anyway, Neon Bible is not over-rated.
I just love the list as it reflects at least 70% of my choice.

Ranting Randy | 12/11/2007, 8:41 am EST

I fail to see the great love for the Kings of Leon. I can not understand anything the singer says? I would have put Chemical Romance’s Black Parade and Saliva’s Blood stained love story on the list and possibly Neil Youngs Chrome dreams II.

ColForbin | 12/11/2007, 8:35 am EST

ryan adams had on off year?!?

you are beyond clueless. 2007 was one of his best touring years. his voice has never sounded more pristine.

bfissarahsmom | 12/11/2007, 8:21 am EST

Raising Sand is Far and Away number 1. Both artists have stood the test of time, and together, WOW!

n | 12/11/2007, 4:13 am EST

in rainbows and neon bible were correctly places.

ryan adams had an off year, easy tiger sucked. except goodnight rose, the performance on henry rollins show, the record version sucks. and the down in a hole cover, two great moments in a year. thats more than most of the folks on this list.

Pagan | 12/11/2007, 3:21 am EST

Radiohead, please move to the back… The Arctic’s blew me away; Trent is well placed… It’s funny to see QOTSA and Foos back to back, and someone playing favourites. I’d give Grohl the benefits just for ‘Come Alive’ and ‘Pretender’.

Another year full of mediocrity!!! Pumpkins do not deserve a top 20 for 2007, and Wilco is pure Sh%te…

Pagan out

Jay | 12/11/2007, 12:14 am EST

What the shit is up with all these people loving Velvet Revolver. Scott Weiland hasn’t made a relevant album in ten years.

And as for Kings Of Leon, they deserve top ten placement.

GB | 12/10/2007, 11:17 pm EST

If anyone was curious I’d give best album to either Kanye or Amy Winehouse.

GB | 12/10/2007, 11:15 pm EST

M.I.A? Really? C’mon Realllly? I don’t get it… A few good songs but I can barely listen to most of it.
Radiohead is really good but generally way overrated.

Anonymous | 12/10/2007, 11:05 pm EST

Everyone who thinks Kanye is over-rated and won’t last is in denial. Sorrys.

Anonymous | 12/10/2007, 10:19 pm EST

Semi decent list. NIN should have been placed at least higher than Wilco.

Long Island Lolita | 12/10/2007, 9:28 pm EST

well, at least pearl jam didn’t make the list!!! thank god!

hollywood sucks | 12/10/2007, 8:42 pm EST

Whoever made this list forgot the following GREAT albums : Linkin Park - Minutes To Midnight Velvet Revolver - Libertad

taylor | 12/10/2007, 8:30 pm EST

IN RAINBOWS RULES, AND TOTALLY DESERVES BEING HIGH ON ANY MUSIC LIST

Christine | 12/10/2007, 8:20 pm EST

Arctic Monkeys is the best album of the year period.

haylee | 12/10/2007, 8:08 pm EST

how come arctic monkeys didn’t make it past 15? they’re number one on my list! i guess no one really cares about my list anyway.

Leminy Snicket | 12/10/2007, 6:51 pm EST

stupid

kfed | 12/10/2007, 6:42 pm EST

So tell me, how did the Smashing Pumpkins get so high on the list? Their name came up like twice on the comments on the original post.

Professor Genius | 12/10/2007, 6:23 pm EST

One rap album and it’s not Jay-Z? For shame, honkies.

Melomania | 12/10/2007, 5:27 pm EST

Project 86- “Rival Factions”

And seriously, what is the deal with Kanye West?

T-Love | 12/10/2007, 5:20 pm EST

I am THE MAN!

Dave B | 12/10/2007, 5:07 pm EST

a pretty good list. bright eyes, ryan adams, arcade fire, white stripes and radiohead were all great this year. really dont see the big deal behind bruce sprinstein though? generation gap?

DeadHorse | 12/10/2007, 4:48 pm EST

Yes, I am guilty. I forgot to drop ‘Velvet Revolver’ as one of the best albums of 07 nominations. It was so very good, and made us all forget about ‘Contraband’, which I hate to admit, wasn’t that good. The tale of most good music, Libertad was high in quality, low in sales.

Barry Manilow | 12/10/2007, 4:34 pm EST

Why is my album not on this list?

Black Francis | 12/10/2007, 4:15 pm EST

That list is god awful.

Listen to Richard Thompson.

rfmitch67 | 12/10/2007, 4:11 pm EST

Sky Blue Sky is a snoooooooooze.
Not even close to the breath-taking Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

Nick G. | 12/10/2007, 4:09 pm EST

I think “Sky Blue Sky” is a little over-rated on everybodys list.

Andy | 12/10/2007, 3:55 pm EST

In Rainbows didn’t suck, but it’s highly overrated.

And, Arcade Fire? Seriously? They SUCK. They MIGHT be more overrated than Bright Eyes and Ryan Adams. I don’t get it.

me | 12/10/2007, 3:45 pm EST

WHERE THE FUCK IS VELVET REVOLVER!?
huh!?

Scott | 12/10/2007, 3:34 pm EST

Kanye West is WAAAAAYYY overrated. Time will easily bear this out. His music won’t stand the test of time at all.
