
- A federal judge has dismissed Louisiana singer Troy Landry’s copyright-infringement suit against Kid Rock after Landry failed to prove Rock’s “Somebody’s Gotta Feel This” was “strikingly or substantially similar as to preclude independent creation” from his own music. Landry filed suit against Rock’s label in 2004 claiming eight seconds of “Feel This” bore an uncanny resemblance to songs on an album Landry released ten years prior.
- Swedish organizers have revealed plans for the Stockholm ABBA museum set to open in June 2009 which includes a room showcasing the group’s wardrobe, an area for fans to record their own versions of ABBA’s hits and another for visitors to dance along to the songs. When planning began last year, ABBA said, “It is nice someone feels compelled to take on our musical history.”
- In a radio interview earlier this week, Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones said the group will continue touring next summer, though their only specific plans include a possible performance at a charity function organized by the Who’s Roger Daltrey. Jones revealed that two of the Pistols’ recent London performances were filmed by documentarian Julien Temple for a DVD.
- Looking to ring in the new year with some Guns N’ Roses tunes? Velvet Revolver is booked to play New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom December 31st, and promises a set heavy on both their own songs and tracks by Slash and Co.’s previous bands.
- Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers aren’t the only ones rocking for the NFL: Led Zeppelin fans can catch snippets of the band’s songs on ESPN and NFL programming until the middle of this month, as a part of the band’s brief partnership with the sports groups.
