Ticket Watchers Question Van Halen Sale, Warped Tour Announces ‘08 Acts, Remy Ma To Stand Trial

  • Capping a year of ticket controversies anchored by the Hannah Montana scandal, a report on TicketNews.com questions how quickly Van Halen tickets that went on sale Monday appeared on Ticketmaster’s auction site, TicketExchange. According to the post, tickets for Van Halen’s March 17, 2008 show at Madison Square Garden were up on TicketExchange less than ten minutes after becoming available for purchase, and a broker who watched the movement inferred “It’s impossible for those tickets to be from anyone but the artist and promoter.” The band has not yet responded to these allegations.
  • Eighteen artists have been confirmed for next summer’s Warped Tour, including onetime Artist to Watch the Academy Is …, Gym Class Heroes and the Color Fred, the new project from former Taking Back Sunday guitarist Fred Mascherino.
  • A judge has ordered Remy Ma to stand trial on charges of gang assault and witness tampering despite her attorney’s petition to have the assault charges dismissed. The rapper is accused of ordering a group of men to attack her friend’s boyfriend in August, and shooting the man in a July dispute over missing money. The trial is based on the former charges, and Remy Ma’s lawyer is hopeful it will begin by the end of January.
  • The dispute over James Brown’s estate continues on, nearly a year after the singer’s death. Yesterday two former trustees of his estate filed papers to retract their November 20th resignations, claiming the judge handling the case forced them to resign. The judge has not responded to these allegations.
  • Want to listen to the sounds of Slash’s autobiography? The book’s co-writer is providing a chapter-by-chapter soundtrack, explaining he “called upon Mr. Hudson’s entire catalog, with and without Guns, for inspiration during many a late night.”

i refuse to buy tickets to any concert now if tickets are being supplied directly to brokers or special auctions. and if the majority of good seats aren’t available to regular purchasers, like when they take every floor seat and put it into a “premium package”, I won’t go to those shows either. basically, it means that none of these greedy bastards are getting any of my money. as for ticket brokers? you’d rape your own sons to make a buck, so go to hell.
